Malazan is one of those things that I think, you need to be aware of what you are getting into when you read it.
Its already become my second favorite series behind The Black Company and superseding Game of Thrones. Its fantasy without the apparent goods and evils of something like Wheel of Time. Its incredibly well written and set in a excellent fantasy world with an already awesome cast of characters. If you havent read The Black Company, I'd recommend maybe starting off with those, as they're shorter, easier to get into but really sell the idea of grey morality in the same way that Malazan does. I cant recommend it enough if you like grey fantasy, or any for that matter.

Divergent Has anybody read this book? It's a YA novel that I got for christmas. It has the same tone, style and pacing as the Hunger Games, but instead of gladiator games, everyone in the society is forced to choose their social and occupational caste at age 16, no take-backsies. The main character goes through this right of passage then spends awhile learning to fit in with her chosen caste (a vicious and bloody process)

I've gotten a little ways in but I'm not sure if I want to continue. Early on there's this intimidating but quiet, broody and principled young guy with a soft spot for the book's heroine. Basically, he has the words 'hello, I am you love interest' tattooed across his forehead. I'm not looking forward to watching that particular 'Oh, sempai has noticed me! What an unexpected thing.' teen fantasy unfold. Is the rest of the book worth the trouble?

I thought it was pretty good, obvious love interest and all, though I heard that it was also like the Hunger Games in that its sequel was a letdown.
    Rise up while you can.

Hey, shouldn't this move to a new thread now, because of 100+ pages and all? I'd start it, but I don't feel I contribute to it often enough for that sort of commitment. Lol.

I'm glad, but - as Stij noted above you - there is, indeed, a new thread.
