    Collab, Roleplay, & Misc Planning

Here you go! I know collabs and roleplays, unlike MSPA's, take some planning in advance of an actual thread, and PMs aren't always the best medium. So in order to facilitate these newcomers to the forum, here's a thread to plan these things, and barter for signups!

Hammerkind is finally READY: go play now!

Certainly. Just not tonight, since I have to be awake and getting ready for work in about 7 hours. :B

Alright! We can get started on character creation, perhaps. How much longer will you be online, Wes? Random or not, character creation might take a little while.

Collab / roleplay discussion and planning

Well what sort of setting is it. :V It will doubtless be SOME variation of my characters and their varying degrees of fur and RIDICULOUS HAIR.

I aim to fulfill the role of a healer class whatever the situation may be however.

YAH isn't quite developed enough to be collab material, but how about a trade? I'll draw a YAH-style overhead map of a scene from someone else's adventure if that other person is willing to make an illustration of their own depicting a scene from YAH in exchange. To show you what I mean, here's John's room (note that there are two links!) from Homestuck:

I haven't yet notified him about this illustration... should I or do you think he'll notice on his own?

    WHOOOOOOOOA

I just thought of an AWESOME game to have on here that can include several suggestion-makers!

    Paranoia!

Duuuude I am so totally ditching Demons and Doorknobs for this.

Sorry, anybody who liked that; I just really want to host some Paranoia. You'll see why when I get it up...

Re: Favorite Non-AH MSPAs [& General Chat]

I WAS TOTALLY GOING TO RUN PARANOIA and then decided to try Traveller instead because I could randomize everything. You are awesome for running Paranoia and I would be honored to participate. Also, Stephen made a handy "coordination" thread for these things so we don't have to do it on this one.

I was thinking Paranoia would be perfect for this forum because players don't have to know the rules. In fact, they're forbidden from knowing the rules.

Edit: I also DEFINITELY DO NOT know the rules. Knowing the rules is treason, citizen.

Incidentally, would it be Classic, Zap, or Straight?

Eh? I wasn't aware there were different modes.

    Elaborate.

Just read about it. Sounds fun as hell. If you make it, count me in. At least, to try.

Could someone like synopsis this thing for me because I can't pay attention long enough to read any of it.

Re: Favorite Non-AH MSPAs [& General Chat]

You live in dystopian future society run by AI overlord 'The Computer', a schizophrenic program. It has made happiness mandatory. Failure to be happy is punishable by death. The computer is paronoid of mutants in its city, and secret societies. Most people in the city are mutants belonging to secret societies. You play a 'troubleshooter' who works for the computer, doing missions that are usually dangerous and make little sense. However, you are also a mutant belonging to a secret society, and their missions make just as little sense. You have to constantly watch your back, due the the number of obscure organizations and the wrath of the computer, leading to mass amounts of paranoia.

That's what I got from it, at least. Supposed to be very tongue in cheek.

Classic: Rapidfire slapstick. Troubleshooters seldom live long enough to advance far. Alpha Complex suffocates in bureaucracy, perpetually on the brink of collapse. "Laurel and Hardy get jobs with the IRS on the original starship Enterprise"

Straight (also called Dark): Fear, suspicion, striving for power and advancement, occasional hard-won successes in a scarily functional Alpha Complex. "Yossarian from Catch-22 gets a job in Orwell's Ministry of Truth."

Zap (also called Excessive or Frantic): Pop-culture parodies, cartoon physics, and frenzied firefights at the drop of a Bouncy Bubble Beverage can. Alpha Complex is generally irrelevant. "Yousemite Sam gets a job in a factory that makes sledgehammers, nuclear warheads, and glass unicorn figurines."

And really, you oughtsta move this convo to the Collab/Roleplay thread. It's even stickied and everything!

My summary of the game: You are a clone who works as a Troubleshooter for Your Friend, The Computer, who runs the dystopian futuristic Alpha Complex. Troubleshooter teams have the job of finding traitors and mutants and terminating them, as well as completing any tasks The Computer gives them. Unbeknown to your teammates, you are also a traitor and a mutant, and you need to struggle to keep this secret while trying to implicate your teammates before they implicate (or kill) you. Incidentally, you get six lives because The Computer keeps backups of its troubleshooters.

Sort of a mix between Classic and Zap, then.

That is really very disconcerting when you do that, Stephen. You tear the rug out from under the fragile reality we all hold, so dear!

You haven't seen me pull out the "shuffle posts" tool yet.

Re: Collab / roleplay (& misc. non-MSPA) discussion and planning

I had heard of Paranoia elsewhere, but didn't get a chance to play. I'll give it a go.

Nice distraction since I'm pretty much ignoring my comics until I can get my laptop connected again.
