Edit: Durr. Let me say that I have absolutely enjoyed reading this adventure. It's fun to join in at such an exciting point (even if I have missed reading a fresh sloppy make-out and having time to appreciate it. They go by too fast when you have 33 frickin pages to read; I will say that the first 10 pages of so of this thread I was just reading Telamon's posts but it was too hard to ignore the suggestions given as I became more engaged in the story).

Tell them to tell George that you need a 2 weeks to prove that you're not a complete psychopath. Then take Fran and go up the stairs and find some place to watch George and Carrie secretly.

Prepare to fire your shotgun at the approaching vehicle.

Leaving the two men chained to the bench as bait, you run off to hide. You decide you have to strike quickly, since George will get tipped off before long, but if you can disable his car you should have the drop on him. You dive into the nearest store and hope that he gets close enough for you to have a shot before he realizes something is wrong. You crouch next to a wall, shotgun ready, hoping he'll come into view. The two men gesture wildly as the sound of the car engine comes slowly closer, then gradually, you hear it stop. You swear under your breath, unsure of what to do, hoping he'll just leave.

The men are shouting now, and you hear a door open. There's a pause, and you hear George's voice, easily recognizable, even after three days. "Get out here now, Chet, if you don't want to see her hurt any more." You peak out. Carrie is standing by the car, George partially visible behind her, with a gun pressed up to her temple. She is not betraying much fear, but her face looks like it's been worked over quite a bit. You duck back, swearing louder now.

What will you do now?

You decide to get him talking to stall for time. "If you'd just left me alone, none of this would have happened!" you shout from your cover.

"You killed Spike. I wasn't going to let you go."

You take a second to process this. "He died?"

"Yes. It was a long and painful death."

"I told you you shouldn't have bothered trying to help him, Carrie. George made you tell him where we were going, didn't he?"

Her answer is flat and lifeless. "Don't worry about me, Chet."

"Oh no, he should worry," George interrupts. The fire is getting louder, and smoke is starting to fill the air. "If you surrender now, no one gets hurt until we get back and I put you on trial. We're still working out the kinks of our legal system, but who knows? Maybe your life will be spared." He's really starting to sound unhinged now.

Chet? Fran's voice rings out in your head. You can't go along with him. You're going to have to take him down. This won't end unless you do. Be bold, Chet. I will help you.

You feel your confidence surging. The shotgun in your hands and the rifle across your back reassure you. You've had enough of this asshole, and you feel like you can do anything.

What will you do now?

"George, I didn't want to do this but I'm wired with powerful explosives. When I say power, I speak of force to incinerate this entire mall. I'm not afraid to use it here. It'll take out everyone here, nice and clean. The more you pressure me, the more I'm pressured to detonate it. If you let Carrie go and leave D.C., we all get to live. Otherwise, I'm going to 'splode this motherf**king strip mall down. Your choice, Georgie, do you want to live or die?"

Suggestion 1:
Just do what she said.

She being Carrie, of course.

So don't worry about her. Shoot him.

Suggestion 3:
Go along with him? Maybe Fran is just acting out of jealousy.

Suggestion 2:
Pretend to submit, shoot him in the face when he's not expecting it.

Suggestion 4:
Stall. Ask him what his society looks like, if he thinks you could go on trial. Wait til he passes out from the smoke.

"Alright," you shout. "I'm giving up." You toss the shotgun out, and it clatters across the floor towards the opposite storefront. You readjust how the rifle, still slung across your back, is hanging so that hopefully George won't notice it. You step into view, hands up. You can see George's face, half-hidden behind Carrie and back-lit by the flames, crack into a triumphant grin. "Just hold it right there," he calls, and starts advancing, pistol still held against Carrie's head.

When he's about twenty feet away, you hear one of the men shout start to shout, warning George about the rifle. Before he even finishes speaking, however, time seems to slow, and you are dashing towards George and Carrie, grabbing the rifle by its barrel and pulling it over your head. Reacting equally quickly, Carrie reaches out and swats the gun away, shoving George's hand into the air. You watch as he brings the gun down again, butt cracking audibly into her skull. He shoves her away with his left arm and points the gun towards you. With agility you didn't know you had, you dodge left, still bringing the rifle around by the barrel. His first shot misses you, and you swing the rifle around, and the stock strikes his hand and knocks the gun away. Stepping forward before he can react, you catch him under the knee with your foot and send him sprawling on his back. You step forward and press the barrel of the gun to his forehead, ready to fire.

"Time to die, motherfucker."

He cowers fearfully as you grin and prepare to pull the trigger. You are stopped by a cry from Carrie. "Please don't kill him, Chet!" She staggers over, one hand pressed to a bloody wound on her scalp.

"What? Why?" You glance at the wound on her head and the bruises on her face. "After what he did to you, he deserves it!" you cry passionately.

"It doesn't matter, anymore, Chet," she says, swaying slightly. "We've won. We can get away now. We can go away, far away, where he'll never find us. No one else needs to die..."

Fran's voice interrupts her, downing out her words. She's wrong, Chet. It will never end unless you end it, here and now. This is the last step, Chet. If you do this for me, I'll be able to show everyone you were right. Kill him. Kill him now.

Her voice goes silent, and you hear Carrie, voice still pleading, tears in her eyes. "...Just let him go. I don't want to see anyone else die."

Don't shoot him. When he sees that you could have let the hammer drop but chose mercy, he will leave you alone. Besides, who knows what Carrie will do to you if you kill him. You'd be down one ally, and that's halfing your ally count.

Actually I think it would be better not to kill him, if only not to alienate Carrie, but I've been trying to make Chet act like a psycho since I first ran into this adventure and I stick to my principles.
