I guess we need some more specific parameters to determine whether Americans are relatively good at history vis-a-vis anything else, or even whether Americans know more of their history relative to anyone else considering how little of it there is. I learned about the Civil War for eight consecutive years of my life. Such a discussion may warrant its own thread.

I'd like to point out that the Wars of 1812, Vietnam, and Korea were the only wars that weren't covered extensively and repeatedly in the course of my state-mandated education. As far as our curriculum was concerned, the military history of the United States was as follows:

- Kicked the Mediterranean's ass.
- Kicked Britain's ass again, or something? America rules.
- Kicked Mexico's ass.
- Kicked rebel ass.
- Kicked Spain's ass.
- Kicked Germany's ass.
- Kicked Hitler's ass.
- Kicked Asia's ass, TWICE!!
- Kicked Russia's ass.
- Kicked Arabian ass (ongoing).
