Turns out this is what you get if you add a Homestuck obsession to a penchant for Super Mario World hacking. You have no idea how annoying it was to get that menu to show up properly D:

Description:

I found myself wondering what it would look like if you took Homestuck panels and made them the frames of a video. Turns out it looks kinda cool. It's a nice way to see the whole story from above, as it were. (Spoilers, obviously!)

This is meant to be an experiment, not an especially professional or well-done video. It took about five minutes to make. The flashes aren't included because that would take too much effort. The video continues for a bit after the song is over because, even with various frame rates, I couldn't get the end of the song to line up with any natural ending point in the story. Someone who actually knows what they're doing could probably make a much better version of this (and probably already has).

The song is "The Walk" by Imogen Heap, which I listened to of loop all the way through Homestuck (both of the two times I've read it). Maybe it's just the power of association, but I feel it fits the comic well -- the way it slowly builds is appropriate for the gradual accumulation of plot threads, and the lyrics are about giving in and accepting the inevitable, which is plot-relevant for obvious reasons.

nost; you know, once homestuck is over, i kind of would like to see the project re-done... perhaps make it about 10min long and with the flashes in it aswell. It's one of those videos that people can use Tube Dubber on and toss their own music soundtrack over top of it.

That would be neat. The problem with including the flashes is that obviously one couldn't just include them in full, since they'd end up constituting most of the running time and the original point of the video would be lost. But that means that someone would have to go in and pick representative frames from them, which would require some effort, and also introduce some arbitrariness (I kind of liked the fact that the pacing of this video was producing entirely by Homestuck, not by anything I did while making it).

The problem with including the flashes is that obviously one couldn't just include them in full, since they'd end up constituting most of the running time and the original point of the video would be lost. But that means that someone would have to go in and pick representative frames from them...

Possible Solution: use whatever frames Andrew decides to use to represent the flashes in the print books.

Even then, though, large swathes of the video would still probably be pretty dense with flash stuff. Also, you would need to wait until all of the books are published, which could take quite some time.

Oh, and another Important Point: regardless of whether or not somebody updates this once Homestuck is over, the thing that you have made that exists right now is really neat. I like it. Good Job.

Oh duh, I forgot to add: there were some videos like that before (by the thread founder in fact), they include the whole of PS, but they stop HS at the MC intermission. (Don't use the playlist, the most-recent videos are missing from it.)
