I cannot get enough of Modest Mouse. No matter what phases I'm going through in my listening habits, I regularly find myself returning to songs from Long Drive and The Moon & Antarctica. I even like their newer albums quite a bit, especially last summer's EP.

Oh god someone else who likes oldschool modest mouse.
I can't tell you how many times I've played moon and Antarctica. And Long drive (custom concern was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, I absolutely HAD to.) And lonesome crowded west and everywhere and his nasty parlor tricks. I haven't heard anything new of theirs after good news though.

If Good News put you off, I'd recommend listening to No One's First and You're Next. I personally love almost everything on We Were Dead (which seems to bridge the gap perfectly between their newfound pop sensibilities and their earlier melodrama,) but No One is probably a better direction to approach it from.

Also, please-please, I'd say that Aesop Rock is my favorite rapper. And John Darnielle's my favorite songwriter, so this is pretty awesome!

But... but... Fly Trapped in a Jar! Steam Enginius! Spitting Venom! Ignore the first half of the album if you have to.

My other all-time favorite band has got to be Radiohead. In Rainbows is so good, all the way through. And Kid A will never stop being an experience.

If Good News put you off, I'd recommend listening to No One's First and You're Next. I personally love almost everything on We Were Dead (which seems to bridge the gap perfectly between their newfound pop sensibilities and their earlier melodrama,) but No One is probably a better direction to approach it from.

Didn't so much put me off as it just wasn't as interesting. Still a solid CD though. And I still don't have ALL of the old mouse, so I'm working on that. The new stuff is on my list of stuff to get though.

If you've heard of these guys tell me how you found them. They are a band I try my best to spread around.
