Battles is a really cool, unique band and it kinda hurts me to see them do this. Plus the track isn't even very good. If this is what their new album is gonna sound like, then count me out. All the bleepy electronic polyrhythmic nonsense of their previous songs seems to be gone. And Tyondai is singing ACTUAL WORDSIt's not bad per se, but it doesn't feel the same at all.
Bleh.
Zil's Clearance Bin Impulse Purchases presents:
I like the song a lot although the attitude here strays a little far into "look how casual we are" territory for my taste.
I wouldn't be so harsh, is it a sell out? For sure it is! But it will open them up to knew fans and help spread them out (I've never heard of them lol). When Thom Yorke did a solo work for New Moon, it apparently became one of the best scenes of the film (and I love this song, didn't see the movie, but 90% of the posts on youtube are "THIS WAS THE BEST PART"). So it may turn into a good thing!Originally Posted by Stij

I haven't given 85-92 a good hard listen yet honestly.
On the subject of the very best in beats, I present 9TH WONDER (again)
I love his bass lines so damn much
definitely one of the top 5 musicals out there
2:52 gets me every time
EDIT: some other great songs

Also fuck yeah on that DJ Format album. I wish it wasn't so physically obscure. It's what introduced me to Toronto (local for me!) rapper Abdominal, on this dope track:
Nice video too.
Also, anyone here into Jedi Mind Tricks? They recently started their own label, Enemy Soil, and one of the inaugural releases was this collaboration between singer Liz Fullerton (who has previously done vocals on some of the JMT shit) and Stoupe (fucking awesome producer of most of theJMT beats):
Love that. It makes me think of like, Feist or Zero 7 or something, but with a raw hip hop influence.
jumpin on the hip hop train toot toot
