...I agree about the outfit, though. And the mask, I'd like to know more about it too.
Whilst somehow climbing down to the badly positioned stairway, Sonnet takes a moment to explain that her outfit is traditional garb for an Orator. It seems just a coat and fancy hat weren't enough to distinguish themselves from mages and wizards who also wore long clothing and outrageous headgear. So they began crafting masks unique to every Orator so they may be easily identified as an orator yet still retain a sense of individual identity.
In these dangerous times an Orators face is a valuable secret and they will only show it to their most trusted compatriots. She doesn't intend to offend you all but she's not the kind of gal who'll pull her mask off for just any ol' disembodied voices. You have to prove yourselves to be capable allies first.
...And she adds that her ears are normal human ears.
