    Chess: the MSPA edition

    Chess: the MSPA edition
    7.0

I'm going to run this and 431 Stories at the same time. This is a silly adventure, meaning that you could post some game-breaking moves, as long as they aren't completely stupid and/or ends the game prematurely. So I guess that this MSPA is a bit of a cross between Tic-Tac-Toe and Monochrome. Please note that I am not related to any of the authors of those adventures; I thought of this adventure like hours after I joined the fora...

    You are white.
    :White; insert move/command
Edit: Augh, horrible typo night... also, fixing up some consistency issues.
Edit 4: Now, if you binge starting here, there will certainly be very confusing. So, to make it simple, here's a quick summary of the first 20 pages, lovingly written by Ariamaki:

    {Note: Summary still in progress. That's how hard a summary is.}

Pawn in 2A: Move to 4A. Wonder if the whole "black vs. white" theme is vaguely racist.

You can't raise morale, silly! But you do have this:

It means that you can play 2 times! Yay!

@a4: But they are obviously blue...

    You are now black/blue.

    :Nb8 succeeds!

    :Nb8 is now a GNU.

A gnu is a creature that could move as a Knight (2 squares one direction, 1 on the other) or a Camel (3 squares one direction., 1 on the other).

((I am very surprised that there is a graphic in the Alfaerie repertoire for this; its original name is a Watcher)).

:Rh8 is temporary a WATCHER for 3 moves.
:Watcher-h8 fails to intimidate white as their HYPE LEVEL is at ×2 multiplier.

    You are now WHITE.

The hype meter shows how many physical moves that a side is able to play. Up to 5 non-move commands may be taken.

Done, done, done in 12 moves, and done.

    New Piece Types:
    • Quick Pawn: can double-move any time, impervious to en-passant and can only be captured by a Rook or higher. (The Gnu is below the Rook but above the Bishop).[/*:m:1mfdqhof]
    • Prince: Like a King, but not royal until the original King is captured.[/*:m:1mfdqhof]

The Flying Spaghetti Monster cannot make it because it has an emergency appointment. On the other hand, the two bishops allowed black's HYPE METER to increase to an incredible ×3.

And to drive the Guitar Hero reference home, the two bishops earned the team some points in the SWEET MOVE METER and shunted the LUCK METER up.

    Cool. Wait another minute...

The Watcher unleashes his move: PIERCING GLARE!

White's multiplier has been reduced to less than ×2.

The Style and Luck meters went up, but curiously, the luck meter didn't go up as much. I wonder --

Oops. Chessmen are never very good at dancing.

The Normal Pawn splits into 2 Weak Pawns.

At least that explains the low increase.

    • The Weak Pawn can move or capture straight ahead. No double move, no diagonal capture, cannot en-passant. When promotion happens it many not promote to Queen or higher (no pieces higher than a Queen has been encountered yet.)[/*:m:3q53jm85]

If you find these too hard to remember, I'll remember them for you.

E2: Flip yourself upside down into a Berolina Pawn so you move diagonally forward and capture straight forward.

It wasn't as effective, but it still did the trick.

No one can friendly fire YET, sir! But thanks the the thought, Nb1 is now a CRAB.

    BLAMO.

    New Piece Types:

    • Crab: A piece that moves as a Knight, but only on four directions. If the original position of a Knight is (0,0), then the four directions are: (1,2), (-1,2), (2,-1) and (-2,-1).[/*:m:3amog3c0]
    • Berolina Pawn (a.k.a. Berlin Pawn): A pawn that captures straight ahead and moves without capturing one square diagonally. Cannot en-passant regular pawns; cannot be en-passant'd by regular pawns either. Initial double-move allowed.[/*:m:3amog3c0]

((I am very surprised that there is more than one person in this forum that knows things about chess variants! Kudos, AvzinElkein!))

    B8: Move to A5.

(OOC: I take it that we've powered-down one of White's knights by pure accident?)

((Not accident per se. It's because Trawq1917 told Nb1 to betray, but it turns out friendly fire is not yet legal, and so Qd1 demoted the Knight into a Crab. And no, I didn't invent the name Crab; blame the King of Chess Variants Ralph Betza for that.))

You cannot make a5 because Ca5 is in the way! But WPh4 is okay.

Cannon will be ready to drop in 10 moves.
