Shuffle modus works like this: Every time I captchalogue an item, it is shuffled into a deck containing all of the items in the sylladex. If I have 10 items, I have a 10 card deck that is shuffled when I add a new item, making it a shuffled 11 card deck. I can take items from the top or bottom card, but until the shuffle gets a needed item on the top or bottom, I have to keep shuffling the deck, and I can shuffle manually. Ergo, less items means less shuffling and more usefulness.
