Buff looks out the window.



Uh oh! What is that?



Oh no! Where did that baby come from?

Buff is concerned for the baby. Buff goes outside and picks up the fallen baby.



Buff thinks the stork dropped the baby! He looks into the sky to see if he can find the stork.



Buff can see the stork. Can you?

You know how the stork myth is due to people believing that the souls of unborn children resided in swampland and the stork would pick around in the swamp and collect the soul and bring it to the mother?

WELL HEAD THAT STORK OFF AT THE PASS (basically "go to the swamp")

No that is just an airplane. Can you say airplane? Airplanes are safe and fun for trips, but you must stay close to your parents.



Buff sees the airplane. He thinks it must have scared the stork! The stork was so scared that it lost the baby.

Yes, it's right there.

WELL HEAD THAT STORK OFF AT THE PASS (basically "go to the swamp")

Buff watches the stork fly into the deep, dark swamp. A swamp is a wet place with snakes.

"Oh," Buff says, "I will bring the baby to the swamp! Then I can give the baby to the stork."

Stork:turn out to be the BABA YAGA

Take baby to swamp.

Buff carries the baby into the swamp. You should not wander into scary places like swamps unless you have permission from an adult!



The swamp is very dark but Buff is unafraid.

"Hello, there," says a voice.



Buff is concerned! He cannot see who is talking to him. "Who is there?" Buff asks.

"Just some Helpful Rocks, by golly!"

[Girth]

"Just some Helpful Rocks, by golly!"

"Just some helpful rocks, by golly!" exclaim some helpful rocks at Buff's feet.



"Oh, hello!" says Buff. "Will you help me find the stork that dropped this baby?"



"Of course, we will help you!" the rocks reply, helpfully. "We only ask for one thing in return..."

"We would like very much to see the world! Please take us with you!"



Buff looks at the helpful rocks. They look heavy! Carrying them will not be easy. But he feels sorry for them, being stuck on the ground all day long, and they are being so helpful.

"Okay!" says Buff, "I will bring you with me!"



"Oof! You are heavy, helpful rocks! Now where should we go to find that stork?"

[Anomaly]

The helpful rocks tell Buff that the stork went into a deep pit next to a scary bog! They tell Buff how to get there so he does not get lost!



If you are ever lost, the best course of action is to stay where you are so that help can find you.

"Hello!" yells Buff, "Stork? Is anyone down there?"



"Yes, hello, and what do you want?" asks the stork.

[Anomaly]

[Girth]

> "Your soul."

"I want your soul, Stork," says Buff. "That is to say, I want to know what motivates you. Why did you leave your baby outside my house? Why are you so afraid of airplanes? Why do live in a deep, dark pit in the deep, dark swamp?"



"...What makes you tick, Stork?"



The stork says nothing for a moment.



"I could tell you many truths, O Stranger," speaks the Stork. "I could tell you that I was overtired and eager to unburden myself of the baby. I could tell you that I have been frightened of airplanes since my youth, when I witnessed my sibling caught in the propellers of a one-man aircraft. I could tell you that I live in a deep, dark pit in the deep, dark swamp because I have troubling psychological issues regarding privacy and personal space. But the ultimate truth, sojourner, the truth which you seek, is thus..."



"The baby is yours."
