Hare Force One: sending a bunny around the globe!

stealth mod edit from the future:
    Thread Two
    Thread Three
    - in progress!

Check out Bowman's blog about this! Also, no new people can join at this time, because there's already well over 100.

This is a collaborative project in which a stuffed rabbit travels between forum members, inspired by the Con-Air bunny's journey in Homestuck. Each forum member will have an opportunity to perform their own grisly modifications on the bunny, and write their own heartfelt, sentimental letter to be sent with it. It will provide a great opportunity to work on a community "art project" and maybe even meet some local forumites in person. Also, if so inclined, you can take pictures of yourself with the bunny near interesting landmarks.

Click here for the currently planned route!

ONCE YOU HAVE THE BUNNY, you are expected to...
    • Write a letter to the next recipient (the person you have to send the bunny to). This can be addressed to them personally, and they will get to keep it as a souvenir of their participation in Hare Force One.[/*]
    • Write a general letter to "all future bunny recipients", or something similar. This letter will stay in the box and travel with the rabbit on its journey.By the end of his trip, the bunny's box should ideally have a letter from everyone who had him.[/*]
    • If you have a camera, take a picture of the bunny, yourself with the bunny, yourself chaos dunking the bunny, or re-enacting other MSPA shenanigans. [/*]
    • If you feel so inclined, make some modification to the bunny. In Homestuck this involved adding knitted parts, robot limbs, and overpowered weapons. You probably have your own crazy ideas for this, but make sure they are legal to own/mail, not horribly inappropriate or anything, and not too heavy without good reason (for reasons of shipping costs)[/*]
    • Once you have written your letters, taken photos, and given the bunny your desired modifications, mail it off to the next planned recipient. It's recommended you don't post pictures of your post-modification bunny so it is more of a surprise when it is received, though you may want to take the pictures anyway in case your modifications are damaged in-transit and you still want to show them off. [/*
    • Try not to keep the bunny for more than three or four days, a week tops. This thing needs to keep moving it it's going to reach everyone, and we don't want anyone forgetting about it. Sending to the next recipient as soon as possible is preferred. [/*]

The current plan is for the bunnies to ultimately be sent to Andrew, and other leading figures of our comunity.

    Further details
In order to keep a steady stream of updates and fit in everyone's modifications, there will be three FIVE seven bunnies travelling around. When one of the bunnies is coming up on your general area, organize with the other people in the area. Confirm who is sending to who, and once you have done so PM your address or postbox to the person who will be sending the rabbit to you. Depending on your proximity to other forumites (and your willingness to meet INTERNET STRANGERS), the bunny can either be mailed to the next recipient or exchanged in person.

Bishop wrote a pretty nice summary sheet of the above rules (PDF)! Suitable for putting in a box!

Current bunny itineraries, as of 6/23/10:

    PINK

    TEAL

    RED

    GREEN

    PURPLE

    YELLOW

    BLUE

Re: I propose a forum bunny.

Oh man. That'd be so kick ass.

...Although I'm worried about the fact that people live in different countries and stuff? If we could try to send it around in order by location somehow... Like, first the people your country, then move around the continent, then ship it overseas where it will do the same there... Also this sounds expensive. Oh gosh. I'm sorry if I'm being a party pooper.

I would partake in these shananigains, seeing that as far as I have seen, the you guys are nice people.
The only problem I forsee is someone keeping the letters or something.
I hope no one would be that mean...
oh yeah, and postage, that could also be a problem...

This sounds really awesome and potentially a wast of time, but like, one of those wastes of time you look upon with fondness and such.

I guess once we're done, we mail it to andrew?

Re: I propose a forum bunny.

We shall all add something to it, such as Lt. Fish's lego things, or a little weapon or cyborg parts for the bunny, or even just a sweet little letter. By the time it circulates around and gets sent to the last person (Andrew probably) it will be this ridiculous mass of love and geekiness.

I'm not *positive* of how legal it is to mail weapons, but it's probably at least kind of okay. In general, replica/toy weapons would probably be less questionable and also lighter (thus costing less to mail).

I was thinking this, yeah. It'd probably be best to have it bounce around the East Coast or at least North America for a little bit before it flies off to Hellmurder Island or whatever.

If it is made public who you are mailing the package to, it'd be easy to identify who kept the letters and they could face the accompanied social ostracization.

Oh snap. I supposed there's no way this bunny wouldn't find itself under my needle like a botox addict.

I think, if you can't afford to send the bunny overseas, then send it to someone more local who is willing to pay for overseas. In my experience sending plushies, it costs 6-10 to send small packages anywhere, including overseas, and it rarely takes more than 3 weeks at worst. Only a few days at best, if shipped on a monday.

Bit curious why I would come to mind? (I think it's a good thing though).

I'd be completely interested. I already know what I would add too.

This is a totally rad idea and I might be down (if I had any ideas what to do with the bunny).

should we organize a list/order of mailing? I am so excited about this, you have no idea (or maybe you do, counting the number of posts i've made thus far)

@SoTL: Those crosshatches you made and sent to everyone were great and is a powerful impression of the community as a whole to me.

Because you did a bunch of stitching for gifts!

I'd probably be interested in this. I can't think of any good ideas yet...

Re: I propose a forum bunny.

Yes, what RedMage said. Maybe we should PM them to you and keep the list in a box with instructions to cross off your own name once you get it. That way only people directly involved are seeing everyone's addresses because I don't want to post my address on the internet.

Also I don't think we all HAVE to add to the bunny. That would be too ridiculous. I'd probably just put in a letter and/or piece of fanart.

Re: I propose a forum bunny.

    Oh man, this sounds awesome.

Oh and would the letters be like some sort of a souvenir for whoever receives the bunny next?

I'm thinking that the bunny would be photographed once taken out of the box and after modifications are made by every forumite that it is mailed to. And then the photos be posted on this thread. In the same way, the letters be scanned and posted, but kept by the receiver both to prevent clutter and to keep as a reminder of participating in this.
You are quite certain that there never has and never will be a present.
