It's just the forums being laggy. As long as you don't hit post while you're in the advanced editor, it will be all right, and you won't accidentally double post. So, technically, it is abnormal, but you just get used to it.

Consider it a blessing: Mods/Admins just automatically double-post if we don't click the little x, delete the message and refresh the page.
Not sure if this is a bug, but I registered last night but I don't seem to be able to start threads.
It's an anti-spam measure since spambots like to start new threads. After you have made 12 posts (plus a time delay of up to an hour) you will be able to start threads almost anywhere.
There is probably an existing thread for your purpose. (An exception is Forum Adventures, which can be started by completely new users, but must be started in the Cradle subforum.)
Just a question: sometimes when I post (for example on a new thread to start lurking in) it won't recognise that i have posted outside the thread, that is, not have the green arrow thingy, but inside it will still have record of my post.
THe same thing just happened to my thread on the Forum Adventures. I posted an update, but the thread never got bumped and the thread's post count didn't increase on the thread listing. I tried clearing my cache, but it still didn't work. Maybe I should try logging out and seeing what it looks like, or is it actually just thet the forum's servers THEMSELVES need to clear their own caches and display a more up-to-date subforum thread listing?
edit: THERE! it happened just now, to this thread! Anyone who has read up to simon.clarkstone's post above me is likely thinking there are no new bug reports in this thread!
edit 2: i think it may have just been a hiccup, because it appears to have just been fixed.

I have some issues with quick reply. Sometimes I'll get my post typed up and submitted and everything works fine, but sometimes when I try to submit it I get the "Are you sure you want to leave this page?" notification, and I have to say I want to leave for the post to go through. Additionally, about a third of the time, when I have to tell it to leave the page, I get redirected to the "advanced" posting page with the message about not being able to post more than once in under 30 seconds (or whatever the time limit is); then when I go back to the thread to check, my post had already gone through.
I'm running Firefox (pretty sure it's the latest version).

actually, one time I hit quick post, then ran away to eat some ramen, and when i came back I pressed leave page but accidentally double posted.

For some reason, pretty much every page of the forum is causing firefox to crash every time I try to load a page I hadn't loaded since it started crashing, IE, I can load the music/movies/misc and games forums, the newest page of the pony thread, all the stuff I'd been viewing before it started to happen, but not this forum or thread or anyone's profile, etc. (Posting this from Chrome.) It only happens for the forums. *tests* And happens regardless of if I'm logged in or not.
I am going to take a wild guess that your cache is corrupted in some interesting manner, so that Firefox crashes when it tries to add anything to the MSPA forums part of it. If that is the case, then deleting the cache from outside Firefox would probably fix the issue, and clearing it from within Firefox may or may not be possible and may or may not help. I won't advise on how to do the former, in case it buggers everything up.
A top sign of a corrupted cache would be if making a new profile in Firefox fixed the problem.
I am not sure how to create a new profile. :V I wasn't aware there was a profile thing at all involved with it.
I deleted everything at mspaforums.com from my history, still didn't fix it. Maybe we should take this to the IT thread in the general forum advice column, though.
My latest page is stuck with 07/09/12 - "[S] Dirk: Synchronize."
It hasn't updated ever since. I know there is new updates and a new flash, so why is it not updating?
I would say its because the rest of the pages aren't supposed to be visible until most people who read it have seen the update. But on Firefox, I can see it up to [S] Dirk: Unite so :I Yeah, same problem when viewing it through Chrome.
The forums have randomly stopped crashing firefox for me, though, so thats good I guess.
ok well, that's not a forum bug. But more importantly, it's not a bug at all, it's something andrew has done deliberately.
But for me, the pages after Sychronize were hidden for only a day or two, and now they are visible all the way up to Unite. I am pretty sure that the way I see it is how it is supposed to look, and so what Milcah is seeing is wrong.
Try hitting ctrl-shift-R or ctrl-F5. They refresh things more thoroughly than ordinary refresh IIRC.
Yeah, it was the same way for me; Firefox only hid them for a couple days, then updated to show the rest. Chrome still won't show the rest, no matter how much I refresh.
I'm not sure whether it is a bug or not but just posting this just in case.
So, I usually use Internet Explorer. Everything on mspaintadventures is alright there. The search page usually crashes my browser if I try opening it though. So in case I want to go there, I use Firefox.
I just did that right now and noticed something weird. The latest news post is not appearing there for me. Not on the Search page, not on the main page, and not when standing on a page of Homestuck.
I know that it is not for everyone since I spoke with someone and asked her to check it out, and she did see the news post.
I thought it was just because of my browser then (cache or whatever). But then someone else responded and he said he couldn't see the news post on Firefox either.
Could it be that it's a coincidence that it's not showing up for us both or could there possibly be another reason?

That is just weird. :S
@Blaperile: Is the latest news post "End of Pause 1"? I know Andrew's Tumblr has a post about Pause 2, and given the circumstances, I couldn't be sure which was the case! Personally, I see "End of Pause 1" in Firefox 14.0.1 and in IE and Chrome.
There have been a couple posts before in here about the main site not displaying new news posts or in one case, the pages after [S] Dirk: Synchronize. Seems to be some cache issue somewhere along the line (but not at the client side). These tend to be fixed with a "proper" update.
The admins have said this thread is intended to be devoted to problems with the forums, not with the comic site...
Is there a thread to talk about issues with the comic site? Because I have an Autosave issue I've been sitting on for weeks.
Mods, Admins, this looks like a speedy attempt to stop being a wiggler.

I've already reported him/her/it. It's just a matter of time before someone (probably Drillgorg as he's the only Moderator online right now) notices it and bans the guy/woman/bot.
EDIT: Whaddya know, I post this, the guy is banned and two posts have already been deleted.
That's what I call quickly acting.
