Thread: The Internet And You

  1. #51

    Re: The Internet And You

WELL SIR YOU ASKED FOR IT.

Aside from seeming like a total douchebag who's 15-year-old ego being bruised by an inability to make friends in general (and thus rationalizing that as unnecessary and stupid in general, not just on the intertubes), here's a blow-by-blow description of why your post is stupid. At least, why it rubs ME the wrong way. Screw these other guys, they're way nicer than me and will try to be nice and helpful to you.

"Well, let me start by saying that this gave me much amusement."

You start the post by putting yourself on a pedestal, like their serious discussion about their view of the internet is trivial, silly even.

"Mainly because one, I never ever try to make friends on the internet."

I would say that not trying to make friends on the internet is legitimate, but in my experience, people who say that they don't want internet friends tend to be caustic people in general who have difficulty making friends in real life, and take that out on other people by trolling them, or being unresponsive to genuine attempts to communicate with them.

Most people call me a troll. I think I'm a person with strong opinions and no reason to care for yours."

While I do not mind strong opinions (for I have been known to get on my soapbox quite often), someone who outright says they don't care about other people's opinions oftentimes is kind of a weird kid and is masking their issues in real life by being incredibly rude on the internet, where nobody knows their name. You refute the claim that you are a *gasp* TROLLDOUCHE, by deflecting on your higher personal opinions. By justifying your assholery. You basically came to a thread that was supposed to be nice and discussing views of the internet to what I assume are mostly fairly avid internet users and lovers of the rights of an Internet citizenship, and took a dump on it, while trying to make yourself seem smart.

"Whatever works I guess. If I ever did make a friend on the internet, I'd probably just make fun of him/her and do this action so infamously known as "trolling" for the heck of it. Or as some would call it, "teh lulz"."

Oh hey. You basically admitted you were a sociopath. Well, hey. Thanks for doing the hard work for me Which, I guess I can't fault. I mean, this is the internet. Most people who troll don't treat the internet as real li-...

"I treat the internet like real life. Which I guess would make me an asshole."

Oh no wait. You're a real-life sociopath too. Goodie. Let's hope you don't suddenly become intelligent or self-aware, because that's the first step to robots ruling the Earth.

"Its not like the internet is any different. People put up personas in real life too. Its just easier to mask on the internet. Whatever."

I'm trying not to tell you about the time I was 15-years-old and cynical, too, but it's really hard. All I have to say, kid, as a word of advice: cynicism doesn't help you be happy. It doesn't make you seem enlightened or intelligent or different from this heard of sheeple that roam the streets. It makes you seem like a douchebag who's justifying their unhappiness. I guess I kind of became cynical about being cynical, and realized that nothing came of hating the world. I guess realizing that you hating the world alienates people that could actually make you happy (such as friends), and that true happiness is not in power or wealth or fame, but, call it cliche, it's in the loved ones you surround yourself with. The happiest moments of my life have been with friends. My fondest memories of high school were in classes where I had people I was close to, and went on trips with them to have fun. Honestly, one of the best nights of my life was spent wandering my tiny little backwoods hick town, wandering around a graveyard at 3 am and leaving messages on my friend's phones about being stuck in a graveyard filled with Re-Dead, and missing an Ocarina or a Lens of Truth. That was fact. So quit toting around this angry persona and learn that people aren't so bad. And those "personas" you rail against? Everyone has them. You have one by showing off your tough angry persona as your "true self". I seem polite and a bit cold (but really shy) at first meeting but turn out to be wacky and whimsical once you get to know me. Everyone has layers. That does not make them bad. In fact, who are you to judge someone's moral code of ethics, when you have your own special one you follow? I have my own special code of ethics I follow. So does everyone in this forum. That does not make them bad. The whole concept of "good" and "bad" is arbitrary at best.

"Besides, I've found the whole concept of friendship a bit shaky and useless. Unless its mutually beneficial and not just some social bullshit."

I can't tell if you're a sociopath or an angry teenager. Either way, you're certainly self-absorbed. You can't seem to see why anyone would find your words bullshit or silly. And I guess it's a little self-absorbed to wonder why anyone would want you in their life. I'm sure if you quit with the douchebaggery for five seconds, you, too, can make IRL friends.

((also, feel free, admins, to delete/modify my post if it's inappropriate. I guess since the internet has kind of become my second home, I took his words a bit personally. Some of the most important people in my life are only internet friends. Being a socially-adjusted (if not assholeish) individual, I know that the citizens of the internet aren't just socially-awkward losers, and am always eager to meet a new person and hear their life story. Because, cliche as it is, everyone has a story to tell, and the internet just brings those people closer together.))

If we're unable to get past this one post we may find this thread locked very soon. Can we just get through all of this drama? I was very interested on peoples opinions on internet friendship, not a discussion about one sociopath.

I'm probably just anti-social then. Oh well...

And I thought that "lulz" was the appropriate term for it? Like, I just explained it to an acquaintance who was a /b/tard for a long while. We talk from time to time and he explains this stuff for me. Which I just so happen to find hilarious. Also I've been on 4chan once. Its retarded. And literally gay. People literally post gay porn all over the place.

Also. ED? If anything, I just have conversations with 4channers, ask them about it, and use knowyourmeme.com to figure out what they're referencing. Its a game we play on occasion. But seriously, isn't that the appropriate word for it? Whatever.

I'm just going back to being an angsty teenager again. Don't mind me.

i know i have a hard time with it too, but you shouldn't use "retarded" as an insult. also your homophobia is a bit disturbing. but i guess you wouldn't really care about these social "niceties"

    Re: The Internet And You

Its not homophobia, its just that people posting gay porn on a thread for kicks is... incredibly stupid not to mention I don't want to have to read dump piles of the stuff as a trolling attempt by some confused little boy who is taking out his anger and confusion out on the internet. Also, retarded isn't used as an insult in this case. I'm giving an actual description of what it is.

Social niceties are perfectly fine despite what I think. What it boils down to is that I just don't like them. Oh well. Sucks to be me. I'll just have to...

    What.

Did you not just use the word "retard" to describe something negatively?

e: same with the fact that you singled out gay porn as something that is inherently negative and a detriment i guess

    serious business: gay porno

    Your in jail? Wow.

Um... ok? I don't know what to say other than sorry for throwing an image macro at your face with the force of the internet at it. Also, infractions are less fun then what you guys advertised. Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to...

    Let me stop there.
