Suggestion: Make a horns selector for Troll characters. Might be a hassle with having to edit some of the hair parts but it'd be nice.

Excellent.
I hate macs, "We're special and different, let's not run EXE files!"
I have not forgotten about this! I've just been busy with school, early classes and assignments. And Minecraft >_>
But I did finish a new version today, version 0.6 Beta! Download it here!
The most important addition is the ability to change the color of body parts. It's somewhat limited, but it does give a bit more freedom.
Click the color wheel button at the bottom to enable the color and alpha sliders, and toy around with it. It only works if you have a body part selected though.
I also added the ability to load and save to the clipboard. That means you can easily share characters you made.
For instance, copy the text in the following box(Select it, and either press control+c or right-click and select 'Copy'), and load up the Homestuck Character Creator. Then click the 'Load' icon, and select 'Load from Clipboard' (at the top):
That's how easy it is! Feel free to post your characters hereCode:[Bodyparts] Bodies=Bodies\Body_Suit.png Symbols=Off Heads=Heads\Head_Kids.png Mouths=Mouths\Mouth_John_Egbert.png Hairdos=Hairdos\Hair_John_Egbert.png Eyes=Eyes\Eyes_Dreambot.png [Eyes] Color=16776960
Thanks!
I added them to version 0.6 Beta, and added your name to the Credits.txt file.
You're welcome, and thank YOU!
That's a pretty good idea. Though ideally, you'd be able to change the distance between the left and right horn too, to have it work regardless of the size of the head. And that's rather difficult.
And it's hard to edit the horns out of the hair sprites, yeah. I know I can't do that while still having the hair look reasonably good.
Thanks!
It's great to see other people use this program
Sorry!
I briefly looked into getting Game Maker games to run on a Mac. There is a separate Mac version of Game Maker, but that only runs on Macs, and I don't have one of those. The best solution would be to add an option to all versions of GM to select what kind of executable file to make, but no such luck.
----------------------------
I found two bugs in 0.6. The alpha slider didn't work (which I really should've noticed when testing, sorry >_>), and the message that pops up when you press 'I' with a body part selected was a debug message, and is now changed back in a message with the filename the body part is currently using. Both bugs are fixed in 0.6.1. Download here!

Try the Homestuck Character Creator! Easily make your trollsona, non-canon story character, or just some weird dude or dudette!

Some of these are just amazingly adorable.
Hey guys, I made a Pack of some stuff for the Creator, It includes:
Body for Ky Kiske
Body, Eyes, and Mouth for Robo-Ky
Hornless Karkat and Blond Hornless Karkat (Meant for the Kys)
Robo-John eyes.
Also Didero, I forgot to thank you for telling me what I did wrong!![]()
This is really cool so far. It would be cool if I could adjust the amount of space between some of the eyes and change the colors of some of the outfits or individual parts of the outfits, but this is already pretty cool, I'll put a picture of the favorite avatar I made while I was messing with it.
For example, Ideally, I'd like to change the suit to white on black, be able to pick the symbol that was on the breast, and change the glasses to Black. I don't know if it would be possible to do that, or if any of that would be really hard to implement. Just thought it would be neat.
But like I said, I still think this is a cool little program, even for what it can already do.

Looks good, thanks for the effort! Though I'm not sure I should add non-MSPA related bodyparts to the default selection. But then again, the more parts to choose from, the better!
And thank you for finding out PNGs have to be 32 bit for them to be usable by the HCC
Thanks!
And you can already change the colors a little bit, by clicking the color wheel icon (button 3 in the 'Controls' picture in the first post). While you can't flip the colors of the suit around, you CAN make the sunglasses black, by selecting the glasses and dragging all three color sliders up. Or by copying the following text and select 'Load from clipboard' when clicking on the 'Load' button:
If you want more control over the torso and legs separately, you could remove the 'bodies' body part and add two body parts 'Torsos' and 'Legs'. There's an explanation in the first post on how to add your own body parts, let me know if it's unclear or too longwinded. Though cropping the legs and torsos separately from the sprites could get a bit tricky. I think it's a bit too much detail to make that the default setting though (except maybe with Tavros's jetcar, hmm...)Code:[Bodyparts] Bodies=Bodies\Body_four_aces_1.png Symbols=Off Heads=Heads\Head_Kids.png Mouths=Mouths\Mouth_Gamzee_Makara.png Hairdos=Hairdos\Hair_John_Egbert.png Eyes=Eyes\Eyes_Terezi_Pyrope.png [Eyes] Color=0
The included eye sprites are cropped from the official images. Again, you could make a separate left and right eye 'body part', but that would get too detailed, and it would get annoying to have to change each eye separately.
Also, something I thought off the other day: With the alpha slider, you can already make parts invisible. Is the separate 'Invisibility' button still necessary, or should I remove it to reduce clutter? I welcome your opinions!

Some of the eyes are too low/high, I think this could be fixed.
Glad you're still enjoying this
Yeah, this program can't do everything for you, sadly. I'd like to find a better way to change colours of body parts, but annoyingly Game Maker is pretty limited here.
But if you, or anybody else, have any suggestions on how to improve the usability of the program, or any new features you like to see, I'd love to hear them!
I know, especially the troll eyes are too high. For version 0.7 I've thought up something that could make it easier to change the location of multiple images for a body part.
After I've added a lot more images, I'll upload the new version. But I'm very busy with an assignment, so it won't be before the weekend![]()

Wait did I just type that?
Lurking on MSPA forums since 2009!
Yes! It's back!
This is pretty nifty. Could use some tweaking and expansion, but it is about time someone came up with it.
Presuming that you will factor in other parts missing from other characters, some things that would really help would be:
-Making the object placement adjustable: For instance, Gamzee's makeup only works with Gamzee's eyes. It would help if a person could adjust the placement of the eyes and mouth to fit with the makeup
-Split objects like the cape and overcoat from the rest of the clothing as a secondary option, that way if someone say: wants to wear john's shorts with the cape or overcoat, they would be able to do so. Same goes for the troll horns.
-On the subject of the troll horns, they need color work (I could not make them blue for instance) and if you seperated them from the hair, it would allow the hair to be a different color.
-And of course, any out-of-homestuck options are very welcome, so your character is a bit more original than Gamzee's hair with Jade's glasses and eyes. This will develop more with user input I beleive.
Sorry for what really seems like a long list of complaints, but I hope this may give you some ideas. It really is a good concept.
Suggestions:
Pretty awesome program and idea!

Oh hey, people are still interested enough in this to post!
I haven't worked on this for a long time because of classwork (and laziness >_>). And now with finals starting I won't be able to work on this for a while. But I'll see what I can do after that!
You can already add your own parts to the program, by dropping the image files in the relevant folders. I specifically made the program to allow that.
But a clear distinction between official and user body parts is a good idea.
I've been wanting to implement this for a while, since it's really necessary, but I couldn't think of a good way to do it, programming-wise. Adding to that is the problem that some parts, like the logos, have to be placed relative to other parts (logos always have to be in the center of the shirt), which makes things even more complicated.
But yeah, I'll try to add this in the next version.
That's a good idea, and shouldn't require too much work (I hope).
You can already add your own part sections, by editing Parts.ini in the 'Parts' folder. Add the new partname to the list at the top (don't forget to change the 'amount' setting too), and create a new section in the ini-file with the same name. Then set the same variables as the other parts have. If everything went right, and you've put images in the new folder, the new part should show up.
Looking at this, I can see a few points of improvement though, so this process will probably get improved in a new version too.
But I agree that the current bodyparts can be split up more by default.
This has been the main problem with this program. I don't have the skill or the time to cut out all the features of all the characters. So that's why I was hoping people would help me with this. But only a few people helped. Maybe I should open another thread in the 'Group Art' section or something and ask for help with this there.
Luckily any parts people do cut out are easily added, without requiring a program update
This goes back to splitting up the different parts more, which I agree should happen.
Also, maybe all the hair images should be white with a black outline, so people can colour it the way they want with the colour settings. That would add the most flexibility without requiring duplicate hair pieces.
That sounds like a good idea. While the G and B keys aren't used for anything, the R key is used for randomizing. I guess I could use another key for that, since using the actual letters for the different colours would make the most sense. I'll add this.
IIRC, in the beginning they were even smaller
There is enough room there to increase the size of the buttons, so I'll increase them.
Also, in case it is easier, you can also right-click the slider, and manually input a number. It gives precise control, and if you missclick, the part is still selected.
You can press F1 to see an explanation. But I guess I could add a button for it too.
Thanks!
Like I said in the first post (I think), I welcome any and all criticism. I'm not so cocky as to assume this program can't be improved, and if I didn't want suggestions, I wouldn't have called it a beta version.
Also, version 0.6.1 has been downloaded over 400 timesThanks!

For the parts, the Trollslum thread has an image with all the parts separate. It's just a matter of putting each part in its own image and doing the configuration stuff.
Thanks for replying! Sorry a few of those were already in the program. I'd be willing to help with the parts over Christmas break (not now cause I got finals too.) Also by the "community folder" suggestion, I meant more along the lines of an automatically updating folder. You know how when you play games that include "level editor"s, once you make those levels, you usually submit them to an online collection of other people's levels too, where everyone can access and play your levels? I know this is probably impossible, but I was thinking that maybe it might be possible to do something like that but with body parts. Example: I just made Karkat's hair white and removed the horns. I can now save that hair into a special folder somewhere that would allow everyone else immediate access to it.
Also, I only knew this thread existed because when you google search "homestuck character". But now that the thread is alive I think people'll come baack.

Crossposting from gog-knows-when, too lazy to change it. But it has Dad, empty kid, and Rose's Mom is there, so drink up.
Well I have a ton of crap here so take what you need, i'm still in the process of ripping some stuff though (I'm very lazy)

Aww, I was thinking about doing something like this, except adding a bunch of custom parts too. Oh well.
Regardless, this is pretty cool
