Thread: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

  1. #2101

Re: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

I believe there's been several summaries, some of which I've done.
Although I forget what pages they're on.
    Should I make another?

Maybe there could be a summary on the wiki? Or at least linked in the first post somewhere. I really like what I see here so far as well, but 85 pages is a lot to read. T_T

Well, I don't know if it's a wiki per se, but this was linked on the front page: http://pasaruconworld.wikia.com/wiki/Nestbound

There's a wiki, but it hasn't been fleshed out enough

To be honest, I think we shouldn't be afraid to do some thorough revisions. Like maybe even change titles and lands around a bit.

Re: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

CRAPPY SCANS AHOY! All designed from memory.

Meet Ikti, the fully realized Seer of Void. Even after ascension, she still requires her cybernetic replacements; Kesh, hoever, has made them more a benifit then a hindrance, not only incorperating her husktop but also boosting her physical stamina and endurance (and incorperating a few cool doohickies). Her bootkind strife specibus is equipped with the Voidrunners, which let her walk where there is nothing and make quite a kick against underlings. Her fankind specibus is equipped with The Flippers Of Billious Slick; not only can she use these to deal major damage to her foes, they can also teleport anything they contact wherever she wishes, providing both a defense and a quick getaway. As the Seer of Void, she can sense nothingness and locate horrorterrors; she can sense the darkness in the hearts of friend and foe and use it to pinpoint their location; and she can even hide from the vision of mortal kin. Ikti tends to use her powers to spy and scout ahead for her friends.

Meet Kesh, the fully realized Mage of Life. Even as a mage, he does not like to use his powers directly; instead, he uses runes to give himself force field armor and potions to heal his friends, while incorpeating magic into his programs so anybody with a computer can use the spell. His Pistolkind Strife Specibus allows him to weild the Barrage Of Bullets, which can adapt its rounds to any target and has infinite ammo. Kesh has also alchemized himself a Hextop Braclet, from which he derived a number of portable computing devices for his friends. While Kesh prefers to stay behind and experiment with new devices, his stout body and access to both magical armor and healing makes him the group's go-to choice when they need somebody to take a large amount of punishment; his abilities as Mage of Life, when utilized, can change the shape of a battle, as he's able to heal anything so long as it is not dead.

Meet Atri, the fully realized Thief of Space. Atri's power allows her to steal the space between her weapons and her foe, and to push that space between her and dangerous objects; she also has excellent senses of spacial reasoning and almost instantly takes stock of every environment she enters. Because of this, she takes a rather elegant and light footed approach to battle, equipped only with the high class Battledress of Aprocite (marked with her wingsign) and the sharp Greaves of the Bat. Her preferred weapon is of course the Spear of Shamans, which channels her willpower and can release blasts of lightning. While she quests for ther frogs she needs to breed, she keeps in contact with her friends utilizing the Crystal Hextop that orbits her in a passive utilization of her power. Atri does not often resort to violence, but when she does it is graceful, entrancing, and deadly.

Meet Taza, the fully realized Knight of Heart. Taza takes his role very serriously, purposfully alchmizing Ra's Axe to destroy unworthy souls that would seek to harm his friends. His Hexpads provide the dual function of armor and mobile computing, as well as storing a number of Kesh's magic programs for use against foes. As if that weren't enough, he also wears the Paladin's Belt and the Boots of Ganondorf (whoever he is...). The Knight of Heart is as destructive to the soul as to the body, able to tear their foes from their bodies and eliminate them entirely from the spiritual coil. However, Taza prefers to use his power instead to defend worthy souls, and will often take the time to befriend consorts and help them with their various problems. It's probably for the best that he is so docile; when his skills in combat are called upon, he has shown himself capable of eliminating armies.

Awesome! Although them being the Godtiers isn't entirely compatible with HS canon (god tiers having presumably outgrown the use of armour since they are never shown with it, and Ikti being quite aghasty over the cybernetics WOULD have regrown the lost parts), they work very was as high-level gearings from just before that. Which considering how much more properly they are playing the game might still make them more powerful in total than the god tier trolls and humans.

Re: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

I'm pretty sure Vriska switched out her god tier outfit with some normal stuff once or twice. And we did see GT John with alchemized equipment, such as the Zillyhoo Hammer and that... lunchbox... computer... thing.

Re: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

Yea they can switch it out. However, the fact that the characters tend to wear it anyway, *especially* to big fights, is an indicator that either the outfit it itself the best armor around of god tier makes the difference not matter.

Also, I think there might have been some earlier agreement on what weapons were after god tier?

But yea, I'm not ruling out anything, just pointing potential inconsistencies out.

Re: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

Yeah, I was just going by their strife specibi. Speaking of which:

Meet Shie, the fully realized Witch of Mind. As the Witch of Mind, Shie is a master of confusion and illusion, and she uses this to devastating advantage in combat, confusing enemies and throwing them into eldritch horrifying visions. She's even managed to use her magic to incorporate her hextop into her own mind, literally allowing her to use it with a thought. Her favorite illusion is that of her old nemesis, the Leviathan, which invariably terrifies her opponents; even without her magic she cuts a terrifying figure, wearing the bones of her kills proudly. Shie has increased the power she wields by alchemizing the Theatrical Scarf, which recharges her energy when she uses DRAMA. And just to reassure her friends that she's more then an illusionist, she wields the Catchygrabber in her Fishingrod specibus and the Icthystab in her Daggerkind specibus. Outside of combat, Shie is remarkably friendly and, in fact, a good person to lay down and have a chat with if you need therapy. Just don't mind if she takes some subjects, like death, a bit too casually.

Weren't the *specific, individual* scarf mainly historically important/a juju type object?

Re: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

...Your question is poorly grammatically structured...

Anyway, this is not the Scarf of the Heroine. This is a scarf that was alchemized. I thought that was clear, but... okay.

Thats my point. Why would she wear a random different scarf instead of the iconic one?

Beeeecause gameplay benefits? And she gave the Scarf of the Heroine to the Heroine, remember?

Like I kind of feel that, considering their status they should be both more majestic and perhaps less monstrous.

Even though I admit my choice of Denizens was just made by looking through Slavic mythology and finding what looked interesting, I've thought up some retroactive symbolism and how it relates to our heroes.

Like the main theme of the Bugs, is that they play the game right. That means that they will communicate with each other and really focus on teamwork. Maybe sBurb's way of compensating for that is this band of Slavic Denizens.

Beings who don't merely dwell in their Palaces awaiting the heroes to arrive so they can give their Choice and/or do battle, but walk the Lands plotting strange schemes.
Beings who for the most part don't look like big monsters but almost more like... NPCs?
Like all six are, to varying degrees, devious, cunning, wicked, and, most importantly of all, deceptive. Which I think would serve as a good contrast to the innocent and honest Bugs.

Kuma Lisa is a trickster, Nightingale is a bandit, Tsugarin is a dragon in the guise of a knight, Koschei and Baba Yaga should seem mostly like frail old people while in reality being powerful mages, and maybe Czernoborg can reflect the darkness in the hearts of those who see him or something?

But at the same time I suppose they shouldn't be fully evil, considering that it seems like you're not supposed to slay them...

Maybe in general think less 'boss monster' and more 'Miyazaki antagonist'?
A "little" late to say it, but you're completely right. My approach isn't so good, I'm especially unsatisfied with Baba Yaga who doesn't even look like a boss, more like some completely secondary dungeon creature.
I still think we should be inventive, both graphically and gameplay mechanics-wise, with these Denizens, rather than smashing them on the story unchanged, but I'm fully ready to forget the "current" designs.

I'd like to have another shot at them, though. Especially since I am less talented with characters than with monsters. It's a good challenge.

Don't worry about it. If a work doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. You don't want to end up sacrificing basic coherence to the efforts of the team.
Plus I can always recycle the past designs elsewhere.

Re: Nestbound! (Or, Kaz and Rae's bugs come out to play!)

Oh hey, I remember when I made that comment.
My apologies if it was too harsh, because I really did think the designs were pretty creative.
But if you want to try again than by all means do so.
It's always nice to see this thread live once more.

Also, could you define what you mean by 'inventive'? Like my idea would be the Denizens are small, just like around the size of an adult Bug, and instead of sitting around their palaces, actually are still an active presence in the Land.

Hello everyone, it's been a bit. I posted the templates I made for use over here in case you're looking for them: All My Art. I think I'm gonna go find some images to manip and meet you all back here in a couple hours/days.

And again... Apologies for the consecutive post, I'd just edit the ones above, but I want people to see that content has been added and not assume that this thread is dead (is it? ).

I created a template for hero-bug heads. I'll probably end up doing them at different angles as well.

An example of how one could use this... Or see my previous post (though the template heads were improved upon afterwards).

Here are the old templates: link. Or just scroll back two pages.

Any requests? Specific poses? Items? Backdrops? Expressions? Other?

edit: Updated Sharksprite and Shkedsprite sprites from this...

    To this...

I think Shkedsprite's head might be too small?
Like try and keep the same proportions Davesprite has?
Aside from that, very nicely done.
Always glad to see this thread rise from the ashes.

    Proportional to Kaz's comics, no?

Dave and Davesprite are more in line with the old sprites from the first page by ogbajoj.
