There now we don’t have to make the joke at all during this.

Where was I? Oh right:

Welcome! Welcome all to the one-stop shop/ home of all that is MSPA Off-Board Roleplaying!

I’m Chad, or animemangavg if you can’t bother to look left. And Chad is NOT a tool name despite everyone saying it is!!! (Shit I did anyways.)

But really welcome to MSPA off-board roleplaying. This is where we all roleplay those silly little characters from MSPaintAdventures. But not right here, oh no. We take it outside the cozy little forums to a multitude of other locations on the series of tubes.

Such places include:
Formspring, a question-answering site;
Livejournal, a popular social site that is common for roleplaying;
Our #mspaintadventures IRC channel, a live IRC to rp with others;
as well as other places such as Facebook or the like!

Our activity here has been declining, but don’t count us dead just yet! We still have a lot to do and a lot more people to confuse. Who knows if we’ll ever die? I don’t! Well maybe Death does, but you can ask him yourself! *Check the character list to ask death*

Now then. Let’s get down to business. Here we simply all meet up and discuss things that happened, are happening, or will happen on these places! It’s like thanksgiving dinner only more fun and less turkey!

Formspring:

OKAY SO let’s get on with the main events. On formspring, we have a LOT of different roleplayers playing a LOT of characters. We have a list of some of them! Be sure to take a gander.

(Please note I removed anyone that was +4 months inactive. If I missed you, just PM me and tell me, I’ve been having trouble with the close to 500 people I follow on formspring and probably missed quite a few!)

Jegus we have a lot still. This isn’t even accounting for all the alternate troll/kids/and other beings and the many OC’s we have here. To find those, you’ll have to join and discover them yourself!

I’m sorry if this seems like a copout but I don’t know much about the LiveJournal RPing. So I’m going to quote Aith on it since he knows a lot more about that. If anything changed in the last couple of months, let me know:

The primary venue for Homestuck RPing tends to be Dear Mun, a fourth-wall breaking community wherein the characters talk directly to you, the players! However a large amount of the time it just degrades into hilarious funtimes without any talking to the players at all so it is more fun than it might sound.

Secondly, MSPA has its very own Dressing Room Community! For those unfamiliar with the dressing room concept, it's more or less just somewhere where any character from the corresponding canon can be played without any sort of logic or consistency. It is just as amazing as it sounds.

Thirdly, there are various characters scattered through actual proper RPs! The big one at the moment is a_facility, an RP set in a mental asylum that currently has a Dave, a Jack Noir, and reserves for a crapload of other characters. Likely it will be hilarious funtimes! There are other RPs as well, but Facility seems to be the one with the greatest concentration of MSPA. (If you want me to add another LJ RP, please let me know!!!)

Other:

Like I said above, we have many other Off-Board Roleplaying locations! Some people go on facebook, while others act as trolls or kids or others and troll on Omegle or other places! Then we have the Fan Made Sessions who take OC’s or Alts and make their very own session out of them! If you want to start your own, this topic is the best place to start!

Nevertheless, this is a great place and I consider all of you like my family. The LESS dysfunctional one if you can believe it. I’m honored I was allowed to make a topic for you guys, truly. Not only that, but being one of the first memes in the great world we made together!

There appears to be a particular article of headwear missing. Having answered an entire question (and I use that term lightly), I am honestly insulted that this account is not honored on that list with a large mural depicting its glory, and I suggest you fix this problem immediately. Hey guys! I'm a long time veteran of LJ RPing. I'm not quite sure how I'd go about writing a guide, but if you have ANY questions at all about it, please ask! I can answer any questions you might have, whether it's about specific games, how to get an application in, how to play, whatever. I've actually run two very large and very successful games, so I can even deal with questions about how to set up and run your very own (and make it the superpopular smash hit you've always dreamed of; and how to deal with the psychological consequences afterwards)

Here's some stuff that comes to mind in regards to LJRP, in no particular order:

1. Icons. LJ RPers take icons quite seriously, sometimes too seriously. You get 15 to start, and some people (like me) are willing to pay for up to a hundred. Icons are used to give your characters expressions and to sort of set a tone for the post. So let's say you're posting as Eridan and he's ANGRY; you'd use a picture of Eridan being angry. While this shouldn't matter, lots of players get bent out of shape if your icons suck.

2. Text formatting. When your HS character is making a text-based post, it should be in their proper text color. the MSPA wiki tells about typing quirks, but here's how to format your text color properly:

Simply replace the F's in the text with the appropriate hexadecimal color code for your character (there's a good list here). The general rule for Guardians/Dersites/Prospitans is simply to use black text; for the Felt green text works just fine. If you are for some strange reason playing from SBAHJ, you want to replace 'courier' with 'comic sans'.

3. Dressing rooms vs dedicated games: There's two main types of games on LJRP, and a number of subtypes. The biggest divide is between Dressing Rooms and Dedicated Games.
A Dressing Room doesn't have a particular setting, and is just a place for characters to interact for the lulz. They never have real plots, they're often very shaky on quality, basically a giant free for all. They don't require applications and are mostly just for fun. DRs are a great place to start out if you're new to LJRP. The most popular one is the aforementioned dear_mun.
A Dedicated Game is a game with a dedicated overarching plot or premise of some kind. 90% of them are "You wake up in an X and must do Y". These almost always require applications. The quality is higher, but a certain amount of dedication is required of you and you need to pay attention. There's THOUSANDS of these games; the best way to find out about them is to just ask around. You can even do it in-character on Dear_Mun (ie, blah blah my mundane [player] is looking for a game with [xyz] characteristics and s/he can't find one bawww!).

There's a few types of dedicated games...

Single fandom - This'd be a game of only MSPA characters. I don't know if any exist. By their very nature, they're quite small.
Alternate Universe - a game where you create characters who are alternate universe versions of themselves based on the game's premise.
Panfandom - this is THE most popular type of LJRP. Basically, you can app anyone from anywhere into the game and Shit Happens. What kinds of characters depends on the game (some disallow webcomic characters, some don't let you do AU versions, etc).

Most games are panfandom and most are 'jamjar' games, ie, 'you wake up in an X and you can't leave OH NOEZ." They vary WILDLY from that particular premise, though.

4. Warnings: LJRP can be VICIOUSLY MEAN. Players tend to talk behind each other's backs and some take the game FAR too seriously. You have been warned. That said, it's still a ton of fun, you just need to be careful and don't be surprised if some anonymous dipshit walks up and starts trash-talking you.

CURRENT DEDICATED GAMES WITH HS CASTS:

I don't know ALL the games that have extant HS / MSPA casts, but here's a few:

a_facility - Very large, very good HS cast. Quite popular. Has a Jack Noir and is soon to be getting the best Bro Strider I've ever SEEN.
route_29 - an AU based game wherin your character becomes a pokemon trainer.
the_posthumans - a dark game based on the Marvel universe (I think?) where your character has superpowers but is wanted by the government for this. NOT an AU game - your character is teleported in. Accepts AUs.
singularity_rpg - A very small science fiction based game taking place on a space station; this is the game I'm currently playing at. You get teleported into a huge but empty space station run by an insane AI.
queenofhearts - a game that only accepts female characters or characters AU'd into being female; they currently have a Kanaya and a Parcel Mistress and a few other characters.

PS: My characters right now are AU Purple!Karkat (based on RLab's cracktastic altbloods), Diamonds Droog, and Bro Strider. the first two I only play in dressingrooms; the latter is my main character at Singularity
