This is what happens when I read Problem Sleuth and make absurd connections between in-game items. Like, seriously, what. This is really way too obscure.

He had been poking through the apartment, searching for a power pack to use for the printer he rarely used. His search thus far was fruitless, and Dave was now scouring the living room for-

Aha. Right there, on Bro's turn tables, being smothered by bubble wrap. His bro was seated at the futon, slurping some good smelling noodles out of a bowl, and didn't turn to acknowledge him. Fine by him, maybe he could just snag it and scoot without-

"Yo!"

Dammit.

At the unusually sharp tone, Dave looked over, hand still hovering over the battery pack. He aimed a flat stare sibling-ward.

Seeing that there was no sign of give in Dave's manner and intent, Bro scrambled off the couch, uprooting himself from a comfortable sprawl to monkey-jump the side of the furniture. At this activity, Dave acceded just a little and withdrew his hand, still eying his brother's antics. Bro came over in a few long strides, leaning over to snatch the weird, grubby electronic item off the turntables. "Better not touch that, man," was all he said as he jammed it down the front of his pants like some bizarre weapon, and returned to the couch in a much more leisurly fashion than before.

Dave allowed himself to make a face at the display. "Why? You gettin' all possessive over your worthless crap now?"

Bro glanced over from his slouch at the somewhat brassy tone, and Dave could feel more than see his gaze brushing him. "Nah, this just ain't kosher. You'd fry yourself with it."

"So you spazzed out... over an electrical hazard?" That seemed a little hinky.

Bro only gave one of his indecipherable smiles, and looked back to the TV.

As Dave began rummaging for another battery pack, he was actually kind of glad he didn't take Bro's weird cord. It smelled kinda like rodents.

From what I've seen, even though trolls don't have much of a concept of sexuality, they do seem to have a concept of gender. Just because of Karkat's statement to Tarvos to "Stop playing games for girls".
However, I also agree that it would probably be easier for a troll to switch gender identities.

When did this thread suddenly get weird?

Not bad weird, just... weird. The gendery stuff started halfway through page 19 and it's been all this thread has talked about since. It's been funny, and I admit the Eridan one was a guilty laugh for me, but where's everything else?

I think it's an interesting thing to talk about, mainly because this is the kind of subject that's avoided in popular fiction. I know a few people who are transgendered, and I wouldn't be suprised if there were some in this community as well. Also, the trolls already have a pretty unique view on sexuality, in that they don't even have words for "homosexual" or "bisexual" or whatever, so it's not exactly a huge leap.
I don't think it's that weird. These are topics that weigh pretty heavily on society, even if a majority of society doesn't like to talk about them that much.

@Graven *shrug* The conversation's been going on maybe half a day, that's not too long. The tendency of the forum to lock onto certain themes for brief but intense periods of time is well-documented after all, and the gender exploration stuff is evidently something that interests a bunch of us. But if it's boring you there is always the option to post something else.

maybe it's just because I'm a big queermo and have a lot of LGBTQ friends, but this doesn't really strike me as a weird topic P: I've probably posted more than usual purely because this is just a personal area of nerdery for me. Gender roles, sexuality and all that stuff is just interesting and has a huge impact on our lives, and is slowly become more acceptable to talk about. I can't speak for anybody else, but I'm also a sci-fi nerd who likes to explore different values in alien civillisations in fiction. Because I am obviously a very cool person who never got shoved in a locker in school or anything.
