This is analysis more than theory. I have found there is a large selection of mortal states among the 16 core characters now:

IDE/Theory: No one in Homestuck shown so far is Lord English.

Lord English is going to be a brand new character when he first appears.

And it will be said that he was watching over everything and in this manner "was" present since forever ago, just never on-screen in the comic pages themselves.

IDE/Theory: Nepeta is Lord English, yet at the same time she is NOT Lord English.

English can see through space and time, nothing can surprise him/her/it or catch his/her/it's interest as a result. To escape the boredom of an all-knowing eternity Lord English creates mortal lives to live in.

In these lives, English is indistinguishable from a normal being. Both body and mind are taken down to a normal level, and the memories of what came before are hidden. Thus the immortal demon will play out the whole of this false life out with no one, not even English him/her/itself, knowing the truth.

It should be noted that Nepeta is a ROLEPLAYER. That means she pretends to be someone she is not. What she never saw was that she had been playing a role her whole life. It should also be noted that Nepeta seems to love wearing a large green coat, despite it being too long on her. It is the only thing she wears that is not part of the basic clothing all trolls wear or her cat-theamed outfit.

It should also be noted that she seems to have NO recupracoon in her hive, yet she dosn't seem to mind at all. She's the only troll to do this, and strikes me as odd.

What if when Gamzee "killed" Nepeta, he instead did the only thing that would awake Lord English. Deliver what would be fatal damage if Nepeta were a normal troll. When one of English's characters 'dies' then suddenly the demon remembers everything. Nepeta's memories and emotions sink into the vast being of English, and the role-player breaks his/her/it's role. Gamzee is the most important character because he is the ONLY witness to this. Somewhere in his broken mind is this critical bit of information. He might live to tell of it, since unlike Nepeta English could care less who Gamzee has or will murder. Thus the clown got to honk another day.

If we see Nepeta at any point in the future, it won't be her. It will be English amusing himself/herself/itself in the spent body. Nepeta is not dead, she's worse than dead. The troll girl we knew as Nepeta never truly existed. She was an illusion so perfect even she didn't know until the moment of her death, whe her old self swept her current self away.

Their is no dream bubble you can find Nepeta in, she's simply gone...

ide/theory: lord english has not shown himself yet. He is someone we have never seen before, and is not possessing/mimicing anyone else.

When he reveals himself his silhouette will look similar to a character who recently died, but then the light will shine on him and reveal that he's actually just some other guy.

I would say that he is the god of time alluded by Aradia. Aradia and Dave know him as a god because they are Derse dreamers, but Prospit dreamers would acknowledge him a demon. I like this whole perspective flip that changes the way a character is seen dramatically due to the sides of a war of sorts, just like how the Genesis Frog is revered by Prospit and the consorts but is a vile thing to Derse, and possibly the Dark Gods.

But Derse dreamer players still fight against Black King and his army (certainly Aradia does... time few hundred). They can be seen as aligned with Horrorterrors (Dave communicates with them, Rose takes their advice, Feferi prototyped their emissary as a kernelsprite...), however we don't even know kingdoms' opinions on Horrorterrors, Derse may dislike them just like they dislike Bilious Slick.

According to Hussie's formspring, one of the reasons Derse does not kill the Derse moon princes and princesses is because they are to serve as emissaries to the Dark Gods, carrying out their will unknowingly as they seem to be working for Skaia's will.

I like the idea that Lord English, if he is present already, is only present as something that lives outside of the universe but through it's end can interact via avatars/manifestations as other beings within the universe, perhaps so well they don't even know it. That means it is possible for Mushroom Farmer, Auorthor, Bec Noir, Snowman, FedoraFreak, Dad Egbert, and Nepeta to be aspects of Lord English and probably not even know it until they die of course.

Exactly, which is why perhaps Clubs Deuce, who happens to also be Dersite just like the Black Queen, Black King, and Jack, would match this card game metaphor perfectly.

I can see Gamzee fitting in and even John, but i bet they are too expected. And i assume Andrew knows that, so maybe he's planning Clubs Deuce to fit in the role.
