Adventure Plots Up For Grabs Contest: Finished

Some time ago, I started a thread about sharing plot ideas for adventures, so that even if you couldn't make the adventure, maybe someone would pick it up and run with it. http://www.mspaforums.com/showthread...s-Up-For-Grabs

After a while, and quite a few good plot ideas, it seems that not a single adventure had been based off an idea from this thread! Sad times! So, in comes this competition. Entrants must pick an idea from the above thread, make an adventure from it, and the longest running/best one wins an ACTUAL PRIZE from me! I will pay for an MSPA T-shirt from Topatoco of your choice, just as long as the winner is comfortable with PMing me their address. If they don't want to do that, we'll get all the other contestants to do fanart or something. Here's some rules:

    * Sign up here with a comment, mentioning which idea you'll be working with.
    * All the adventures will start on a certain date, to be decided on agreement. Probably Monday February 7th, or something like that.
    * Make sure to put "Up 4 Grabs Contest" or "U4G" in the adventure title.
    * In one month's time, we'll check up on all the adventures still active. If more than one are still going, we'll set up an unbiased voting panel to decide the winner. If none are still going, we'll count up the number of adventure updates by the author.
    * The winner's prize will be an MSPA T-shirt of their choice from Topatoco, paid for by me. If they don't want to PM me their address for posting, the prize will be fanart from all the other contestants (and probably me as well).

    Sign up starts..... NOW!

    I'm SO in this thing

I have a couple of questions though:

1.- Will there be any requirements on the update schedule? Like 1 update every 3 days, or perhaps some kind of penalization for not updating for a whole week? I'd like you to elaborate on this subject. Adventures can get insanely big in a single month, but there are 10 updates long adventures that are just so good that will make any other long adventure look lame in comparision. Like that, there are authors with a lot of creativity that make overall enjoyable adventures, but tend to be not as dedicated as some other authors.

2.- Will you be paying shipping charges too?

    Definitely doing this.

I'll be using this mixed-up superhero/supervillain idea by Dragon Fogel.

ALSO: For date, Feb. 7 works fantastically for me. Gives me just enough time to plan and get excited.

I'll probably do this... Soon enough...

EDIT: Yah, I'm doing Tseraliths DUO TYPE CONTROL idea. Don't know how to direct link it, but it's post 17. I'll be combining it with post 21's ROBO PLOT.

To answer your questions, no there's no set number of updates you need, that bit of the rules is more about how long the adventure stays "active", and that's only if all the adventures "die" before the month is out. If that happens, we just need a way to see who stayed active longest! I don't expect we'll actually need that rule, but its best to be prepared.

And yes, I will pay shipping charges

Re: Adventure Plots Up For Grabs Fun-Times Contest! With ACTUAL PRIZE!

I'm interested in this and will probably participate if I can find an plot I like, but I have a slight problem: my brother is on leave between boot camp and a-school, and I'll be visiting him from the third to the eighth. Can we maybe start on the ninth/do you mind if I start a little late?

e: okay I'm using "Raddish[sic] of the Damned" by wheeeeeeatthins and bits of Mr.Eldritch's noun/verb magic system.

Hmm. I got a request to move this out of the Cradle, but on the other hand, we have a fair few stickies in Forum Adventures proper already. OMR, I'm happy to sticky this, but would you like it Stuck in Collabs, the Cradle, or Forum Adventures?

    Wait a second...
Are we using ideas from this thread, the old thread, both or niether?
If it is for this thread then I have an idea.
You are in a test facility with the newest device, "The Item Combiner". To test it, an obsical course has been set up, and you have to solve each obstical through combining the given items to make new items.
    Sounds awesome to me!

No we're using ideas from the actual ideas thread. this is just a contest thread.

Also I vote we keep it in the cradle as well. Seems more aimed at new people as well that way.

Umm, I dunno! I'm leaning towards Forum Adventures because I see it as the "main" adventures area. But is this sort of thing classed under Collab? I bow to your judgement Mr. S.

Prof Luigi, adventure ideas go in the other thread. This one's just for contest details basically.

Slorange, I don't mind changing the date if everyone else is happy starting on Wed 9th Feb?

    People taking part so far:
    * Ford Johnes with the Rock Paper Scissors and the walking ship in a bottle ideas.
    * Ed_knott, yet to choose a plot idea.
    * Yako with the mixed up superhero/supervillains idea.
    * Masterweaver with a Robo Plot idea using the Duo Type Control idea.
    * Sleeping Orange with the Raddish of the Damned plot utilising the noun/verb magic system idea.

Oh, Skelatox, I'm usually an easy-going guy, but I'm hesitant to let your adventure into the contest because you've had a head-start on everyone else to build a fanbase. Popular opinion, feel free to shout me down.

We're still open for more sign-ups guys! I'm setting the sign-up deadline as the 1st of Feb!

This is a really clever idea! Obviously I can't join, but I'll follow this once it gets started.

    Me too.

I am interested in this prospect, but I am currently swamped by a thing called midterms. >:

I like the idea here, but I'm already running enough adventures as it is. (Also I can't draw anything that looks remotely decent.) So I will just watch this play out, and perhaps be pleasantly surprised if somebody happens to use one of my ideas in that thread.

Skele, it's not that we don't like you. It's that you've had a, to be honest, head start that's a titch unfair. Try taking a new idea, okay?

Skela's adventure hasn't gotten very far yet.

I'm neutral on this thing until further notice.

Re: Adventure Plots Up For Grabs Fun-Times Contest! With ACTUAL PRIZE!

Oh I wanted to clarify something, cuz it could be taken another way: You don't have to struggle to finish your adventure on the one month deadline, feel free to continue it for as long as you want! The one month deadline is just when we pick the winner.

I won't go ahead and organise the voting panel just yet, because A) We might not even need a panel if most of the adventures fall silent before the deadline, and B) its easy to forget what you promised to be involved with one month later (speaks from experience).
