    The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

I've noticed this has been a growing trend for the more popular forum adventures: TVtropes articles. Crystal Rave and Nepetaquest 2011 have done it, and as the number of adventures partaking in this will indubitably increase, and chatter about article modifications only really clutters up main threads, I figured we may as well have a thread to list these adventures and discuss their articles.
First off, you should see how TVtropes defines and categorizes Interactive Comics such as our MSPAFAs. Then, get contributing! The articles listed below could always use a little extra meat... Some more than others.

    The List:

    Active:
    Inactive:
    Completed:

If any adventures are added to TVtropes, or I have forgotten one, please post here with a TVtropes link and a thread link.

Can we get a mod to move the discussion from the Nepetaquest thread?

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

If the list gets too long to put in a single post, we can start a new thread with two posts for the list. We're also going to need to figure out how we're ordering it. Alphabetic order is the most obvious choice, but at least cursory thought should be given to alternatives or factors like Recency of addition to this list, Popularity, or indeed it's current Status.

Yeah, a wise idea. When I get home(formatting's tough with an iPhone) I'll start working out a system. Most likely there'll be three categories(Legendary, Active, and Inactive) each in alphabetical order. Though I probably won't keep the Legendary moniker, the first category will be reserved for hugely popular adventures, like Crystal Rave or Voices. Alternately I could do away with the last category and add colored tags, e.g. red for Inactive, green for Active, and blue for Completed.

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

It may not be a good idea to make categories that are so subjective, unless you want lots bickering and discussing of which adventures belong in which category. Just do Active, Inactive and Completed (with Inactive meaning "More than a month since last update or author officially declares termination of adventure or hiatus of more than one month").

Generally noone except the author will make pages for adventures that aren't at least moderately good.
    My adventures and writing here:
Current: Today is your day (Aisleventure)
Completed: Aisleventure: Make a contract with me and become a magical girl!
Abandonned: Cursed, Trust me, Trust Me: Reboot, Troll Ender's Game: Shadow of the CULLSAT parts 1 and 2, Leave Me Alone!.

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

I think the popularity of the adventure should only be used if it can be measured.

Completely serious question: Anyone up for creating a running popularity poll? It would need to factor in the amount of time each adventure's been on the poll.

I think the formula should be something along the lines of X/Y, where X is the number of people who said they liked the adventure and Y is that number plus the number of people who tried it but didn't particularly like it. People should have an opportunity to alter their votes.

As pointed out above, it would have to be a far more complex system than your average forum poll to have any valuable meaning, so it would have to be hosted off-site if anyone feels up to it.

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

I was going to only put adventures that are nigh-ubiquitous in that category, but I suppose yours is a better plan. Final system: I'll sort them into Active (green), Inactive (red), and Completed (blue), all sorted in alphabetical order.
EDIT: The poll idea sounds good, but I have no idea how to set one up. If we use it, perhaps there could be a Top Ten listing for adventures?

^ That's the best system I can think of right now that doesn't require some off-site hosting and a lot of planning. It gets my vote.

    edit:
Might it not be best to keep the categories separate? Ah well.

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

Random thought: We should designate some adventures as EXPANDED UNIVERSE. That is, the fans agree that it's pretty core fanon. Nepetaquest comes to mind, as does Cordless and A Complete Waste Of Time. I'm not sure where to put alternate SBURB sessions, they might be called... common expansions? I mean, theoretically, everybody on a planet had access to their local SBURB equivalent so...

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

I dunno if that's good idea. The very best of what the fandom does can still be shot down by Hussie without him even knowing it was there, especially if it actually takes place in this universe (Nepetaquest). And again, sorting this topic in a subjective way is asking for discussion of the sorting to dominate the topic, which I'd rather see not happen.

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

I'd say something, but Brickman pretty much summed up anything I'd have said about the expanded universe idea anyway. What I will say about organizing is I hope for it to be as objective as possible if popularity is implemented. As Eagle said earlier:

This would probably be the best way to measure popularity without it turning into a total shitstorm of "NO WAI (x) IS BETTER THAN (y)!!!!!"
So, yeah. I'm going to start asking around for someone to set that poll up, by the way. If anyone agrees to I'll let you know in this thread.

Pretty Sure that you don't need a Top Ten with these around
If they won an MSPAFA Award that's awesome, if they were nominated, that is still pretty damn awesome.

Despite my suggestion there, I don't think we need a top ten. Voting for none.

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

Alright. I'm probably going to close that poll sometime next week, probably either Monday or Friday, and use whatever system's been voted on. I've got the categories laid out now and alphabetized what few adventures are currently on the list, at least, so it'll be that much easier to organize when a new adventure is added.
Speaking of which, it's looking like Cordless will be getting a TVtropes page soonish. If someone else doesn't soon, chances are I'll make one myself, anyway!

    Interactive comic they are.

Should we have a minimum of Popular Votes before making a trope article? Like, five?

    Re: The MSPAFA TVtropes Repository

Well, that's... not quite what I had in mind when I was talking about a popularity system. Besides, an adventure would have to have a TVtropes article before being put on the list, anyway. So yeah, whether or not to make an article for an adventure is up to the people who read the thread... I only deal with organizing the results, I suppose.

Ah, good! I wasn't entirely sure if it had an article or not, and hadn't had the time to check. Thank you, but could I get a link to the thread too?

Indeed I am. It would be useful to link that on the first page; I'll do that now.

Oh hey I wrote the Interactive Comic tvtropes page.

Just stopping by to point out that maybe we'll need to break out the MSPAFAs into a separate subindex on that page.

I'm not really good with TVTropes lingo (TVT looks like a canyon when you look at it too hard), so I thought it's something like the Talk: namespace? This?
