Because I'd always identified him with the "Black" lietmotif but that's used in Dave's one. It just doesn't really "sound like" the character to me, needs to be angrier or something.

    Still, good work.
your comparing two completely different styles of music with the kids.

Its hard to compare Aggrieve and Showtime to Rose of Thorns and Heir Conditioning.
    Well not really, they're remixes.
It's pretty easy to say you prefer the original to a remix, and makes quite a lot of sense.

Also some of the themes seem to be in the wrong place. I don't recognise anything from Jack's theme and all the music previously associated with him is in Dave's for some reason.

I mean I'm not saying they're awful and I hate them, Heir Conditioning, Thorns and Time are all on my playlist right now, but it's always a little dissapointed when someone remixes a track you really like and you find you still prefer the original.

But yeah, art is subjective, opinions are opinions, your mileage may vary etc etc

I didn't really like Atomic Bonsai at first, but I kinda got into it and now I'm very much for it. It's probably one of the best, but it's..so very difficult to pick a favorite.

They're not remixes (except for Dave's). Heir Conditioning has a bit of "Savior of the Waking World" in it at one point, but that's it. They're original compositions.

Okay, first of all, HOLY SHIT THAT COVER ART (I hadn't seen it before actually)

Second of all, I'm SO GLAD that the reception has been so overwhelmingly positive and I really hope you all like it

Now, for actual content. The ONLY true remix is Time on my Side. That's it. Heir Conditioning takes a piano melody from Savior of the Waking World and uses it in the bridge section, but that hardly counts as a full-blown remix. The other songs are almost completely original (aside from the small references to various videogame-soundtracks). I basically figured that Homestuck in and of itself is full of subtle references and acknowledgements of various cinematic and videogame tropes (the latest flash makes this pretty obvious), so I kinda tried to translate that concept to the music.

Oh man my favorite is Atomic Bonsai. And my second favorite is Dance of Thorns or Heir Conditioning unless it's one of the other three songs. Feels so good on my eardrums!

Someday I will be able to afford music again so help me

Oh god Tensei this is the best thing.

    More solo albums too yesss.

I am incapable of posting anything in these threads other than compliments.

First album here I've bought on impulse. SO WORTH IT.

Also, I can't have been the first person to bring this up in five pages, but I'm getting serious ZUN vibes off this. Intentional?

Heir Conditioning is meant to have kind of a touhou-vibe, so yes, intentional.

Same can be said for Dance of Thorns -> Castlevania (Hell, even the name is based off this song), or Ys.

Oh, and Atomic Bonsai is obviously Naruto-inspired.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for more classical instruments which is why I love Heir Conditioning and Dance of Thorns.

Now all I need is a melancholy yet relieving accordian song. Hmmmm...

    ugh.

Just got to the bonus track, and boy is it pretty. A nice bookend to match Stormspirit.

Holy fuck this album is insane. I love them all.

Atomic Bonsai appears to briefly quote the decisive battle theme from FF6.

    ...Oh. My. God.

...I thought the other albums were beautiful.

    But this...
    This is professional-quality bleepin' music.
To describe myself as "impressed" would be to do this an injustice.

Oh man, I've been waiting for the full version of Heir Conditioning for a while, and it definitely delivers. I love all the subtle references to other Homestuck songs and video game tunes that are popping up as I listen to the album.

Homestuck: Making it easier than ever before to gives righteously metal composers their due in cash format.

Loved the way that, for the first three pages, you could tell how far everyone had gotten into the album, because that's the song everyone was raving about.

    Re: New solo album: Strife!

Ok, this is obviously my favorite album ever,

And I hate to be THAT guy, I really really really do,

But Dance of Thorns (as someone said earlier) sounds a LOT like one of the tracks from Castlevania. Not the whole thing, just a few measures here and there that have one or two notes off. It still sounds OMFG-cuminyerpants-Awesome, I just don't want Konami to come in and start Cease-and-Desist-ing people right and left.

EDIT: Also Time on My Side is the best track. The rest of yall just be trippin.

They can't though, because that's completely legal. Music is allowed to sound like other music, unless they're ripping off entire tracks.

Tensei made intentional references to videogame music. So it's okay.
