    Troll Hive (adding trolls to Dwarf Fortress)

    This is what I have so far. It's far from complete; I don't know how to implement multicolored blood yet, and I'm not sure about the ethics. And of course I'll take any other suggestions you might have.

    One thing that really bugs me about it is that, the way the DF ethic system works, our trolls will be on the receiving end of most wars they get into, which is just plain out of character. But I'm not sure how to deal with that just now...

    I'm sure there is a way to implement blood colours - I know that trolls in DF (as in, the mythological Scandinavian creatures who regenerate) have cyan blood, so there is a way to set a colour, and the latest version has a way to implement "castes" of creatures with different settings. It's usually used to differentiate males and females, but...

    I was just throwing that out, since that's how I would expect it to be done.

    That might work. Hm, would that mean I'd have to make 22 castes? (assuming no mutant candy red blood)

    oh well the blood would be the only thing in the castes anyway

    If sub-castes are a thing, it'd be a simple copy/paste job.

    While I'm messing with castes, is Kanaya's rare jade blood actually related to her also-rare ability to withstand the blistering Alternian sun? Or are they just two rare things that she happens to have at the same time?

    I would add sun resistance to her jade blood, just so each caste can be different. I would think it would be like
    Mutant red, if made, would be generic with nothing special.
    Red would have flying (if Toady ever gets around to fix it).
    Brown blood would have better animal training skills (if possible)
    Yellow blood could use that new bee keeper job.
    Regular green could be faster and more artistic.
    Jade green gets immunity to cave adapt.
    Teal could be blind or something.
    Not too sure about dark blue
    Blue could be STRONG
    Gamzee purple could be more RAGE if possible. Also, alcohol (faygo) dependent.
    The other two can be amphibious or whatever.

    I know not all trolls have these qualities, but making the blood more then a cosmetic thing would make the mod better in my opinion.

    Oh, yeah, Gamzee-purple is definitely alcohol-dependent.

    According to the wiki, flying is only slightly glitched (walkable path needs to exist, but fly-optimal path will be used), so I'll put it in for redbloods.

    I took out cave adaptation for all trolls, figuring that wasn't a thing they did. ... That is kinda silly, I guess. Putting it back for non-jadebloods works better.

    I recall Sollux being able to fly, was that a yellowblood thing or a bifurcation thing?

    Also, Regular Green should have cave adaptation.

    As it is, all castes have CAVE_ADAPT except jadebloods. If you meant adaptation immunity... I don't see why that should be the case.

    Also, gave Tavros-bloods animal training and caretaking. They have it at Adequate (1100 exp) as a natural skill, and gain double experience in them.

    This project pleases the blood god.

    However, I think basing the caste of the main characters and trying to make them all different is the entirely wrong path to take. The kids are NOT representative for thir castes, and the castes are not all that differnt.
    I sugest the following caste differntialization:

    ** Feferi purple: Eligible for royalty, very strong, immunity to a bunch of stuff
    ** Eridan magenta: Eligible for royalty, strong
    ** Gamzee violet: Eligible for nobility, strong
    ** Equius blue: Eligible for nobility, strong
    ** Vriska azure: Eligible for nobility
    ** Terezi teal: Eligible for elected positions
    ** Kanaya jade: Eligible for elected positions, extra calm personality and high social skills
    ** Nepeta green: Eligible for elected positions, weak magic affinity once implemented
    ** Sollux yellow: not eligible for anything, magic affinity once implemented
    ** Tavros orange: not eligible for anything, magic affinity once implemented
    ** Aradia red: not eligible for anything, powerful magic affinity once implemented
    ** Karkat mutant candy red: Not implemented until there is a non-kludgy way to influence caste frequency

    Do what is canon.

    Higher blood, more bloodthirsty and backstabby.
    Lower blood, more rude.

    Few exeptions, though.

    Unfortunately, the only controls for personality traits are entity tokens, which don't go in a caste. Well. As far as I know, those are the only controls. *reads the creature token page*

    oh god trolls must have LIKES_FIGHTING at least some of them

    would that be a whole-race thing or restricted to certain castes?

    No idea, sorry. I haven't actually loaded a game with these in the raws yet. ETA: They're right next to the DF trolls, and unfortunately I have no idea how to tell the difference, if that's even possible. ETA2: Okay I updated the files, trolls now wear their blood color on their sleeves, and by "sleeves" I mean "caste names".

    I've been doing something like this recently.







    From my playing around there's no way to tie caste to an entity position - they can't be restricted any further than to a gender. So I've ignored their blood types and just made a sufficiently troll-themed one. I've made troll women lay eggs, ignoring the whole mother grub thing which wouldn't really work. There blood types occur in different ratios, too (10:10:10:10:10:2:10:10:10:5:15:1).

    Hm, the blood colors are all showing as purple in the arena. Weird, since DF trolls' blood is blue as intended.

    I've been trying to edit the raws I used into my post, but it's timing out on me, sadly.

    I had a problem with my trolls all having the same blood until I realised I had all twelve blood types tied to the "blood" tag. So it only used the last one assigned for all trolls.

    That appearance description shows an obvious lack: TEETH SHARPNESS! I propose blunt, dull, -no description-, pointed, sharp, and razor sharp.

    Can't modify descriptors as far as I know; only co-opt them from other things. Horns are described using attributes from lips and noses.

    That is weird that they don't have any horns, but all my trolls have purple blood except the mutants, which have candy red blood. AND NOW ALL MINE ARE RED WHAT THE CRAP HAPPENED

    What tags are you using to assign your blood types?

    You should try something like:

    (Obviously adjusting for whatever you called your blood materials)

    Yeah, I did that and my trolls now have the proper rainbow of blood.

    ETA: And right now, horns only show up if they are in some way removed from the body. =/

    I'm not sure if there's any way to make horns appear in the Wounds menu without being damaged somehow. You'll need to add extra tags to make them appear in the description paragraph.
