Thread: Convergence (>talk with the catgirl)

  1. #51

    Re: Convergence

Core: Energy. Branches: fire, air. Result: Lightning. (Like plasma)

    Mixes:

    Mind, Energy = telekinesis

    Water, air = weather

    Fire, Earth = Crystal/pressure

I say we make the core energy. I just see more use coming out of that.

Does light and dark translate to Holy and Necromancy? And what sort of spells would you get from Order and Chaos?

I was also wondering if we could tweak the flow of the chart somewhat so one secondary could influence the other?

  2. #52

    Re: Convergence

Order and Chaos effect how spells work.
Examples: Fire is highly controllable with Order whereas with Chaos it's more like a wild fire, strong but dangerous to all. Precision based moves vs Area affect ones.
Water element magic with Order can also concentrate the water and can freeze it elaborately, where as water with Chaos is like an explosion of water with jagged freezing when it occurs. Chaos is powerful, but control is difficult as the results never are constant.

Chaos and Order combined, create Balance magic, combining the best of the twos' traits.

Energy is a booster and enhances all powers.

Light and Dark are an intricate set. Light Expels, Dark Absorbs.

Light acts like Energy in the way that it provides a boost to powers, especially in the presence of light. It also effects the mana consumption of spells. Being in the dark causes the mana consumption to go up.

Dark absorbs energy, and is strongest in light which it absorbs. Being in dark makes Mana consumption go down. This one is great for stealth.

More secondaries and mixes become prevalent as they level up and gain branches.

You could have core + branch secondaries, heck they can even be all core/branch. just you don't have to.

Feel free to show a tweaked chart. the star was chosen for easiest visualization but if you have a better idea you may propose it.

    Re: Convergence

Well, I was working on a chart to get two secondaries to make a new element together when I realized it didn't work at all. So until I can fix it

Jack: Attempt to communicate with it using various methods. Is there some sort of universal language?

    Squeakers: Nibble on his robes.

Hawk: attempt to get the vermin spirit off yourself

VS: Don't give him any opening

Jack: keep the doll as a pet out of sheer pity. Just remember to train it from time to time.

    Re: Convergence

    Core: Chaos
    Primary Top: Air
    Primary Bottom-Left: Energy
    Primary Bottom-Right: Fire
    Secondary Left: Mind
    Secondary Right: Smoke

That's in keeping with some synergy for chaos and would fit Jack's role as a foil to Megan's more methodical personality.

You try the first and simplest attempt at communication.

Hm. That was definitely your language, if not mangled pretty badly and sounding outright strange. Still! This is exciting! A being from another realm that you can talk to!

Oh my. You're heart feels even more for this creature. It has no name? That's absolutely terrible. How can someone forget their name? Aside from you and that Wipe spell incident, that doesn't count.

Robe nibbles are the best, at least you think so. Maybe you can rip a nice chunk off and keep it in your cozy nest...

Believe me, you will. In fact, you know the perfect spell. Better be quick before that horrible rat chews holes in another of your clothing items. You wish you knew where your own summon was at this time but she's always been the type to do her own thing. Last you saw her she was sauntering off to mess with Jack. Hopefully that's what that noise was upstairs.

If by pet you mean a summon then sure, why not? The book said they were easy to summon and gods know you could use another creature besides your vermin spirit.

You have no idea what "fade" or "black grabbers" are but you sure like this little guy's infectious enthusiasm!

I couldn't get the chart to work. Just go with what the other guy wanted, unless the combo would also work as lightning rather than smoke.

Squeakers: Be stunned. Fall over to your right, further smothering him

Jack: So... what were you doing again? Maybe you gotta review a bit more on your spells.

Jack's Center Branch: Be Moon, or some other lunar equivalent. Also have flowers as one of the branches.

Knowledge is a power that keeps on giving. You've spent more hours researching Jack's summon than he's ever thought to do. You haven't kept yourself in this place for so long by being ignorant. You've learned things that have and will serve you time and time again. For an example:

When pained or startled a Vermin Spirit will try to shift their size.

For a brief period during transformation, a Vermin Spirit becomes weightless.

Vermin Spirits don't like being bested.

You know you're going to need plenty of spells before you're ready to summon a familiar. Until then, you know this one by heart. Drilled into your head for years, practicing over and over again, failure after failure until your very soul learned it. The SUMMONING PACT. This binder connects you to your summon in a bond that can only be broken by a mutual agreement. This spell will call forth whatever beast or being you've chosen whenever you need them.

The energies form about your hand and channel into the small being. Its form shifts under your palm as the Maquette absorbs from you the power it desires. It's form has always been malleable despite its indestructible nature.

You're so pleased with yourself right now. Megan doesn't have a second summon yet but you do. You're going to have to show your Maquette off. Energy eating is pretty darn nifty sounding isn't it?

Now all it needs is a name. You're going to just call it a boy from now on because "it" sounds so impersonal to you. Mini me? No, that's stupid. Jack Junior? Oh gods, not after seeing what he looked like mixed with Megan. Maybe just Jay. Simple, sweet and to the point. Jay. You like that! Jay the Maquette, summon of Jack. That's cute sounding!

There has been an awful lot of noise down there! Squeakers must be getting her mischief on! You're kind of creeped out over the idea of putting your eye up to that hole after Megan shot something up through it but you'll take the risk to satisfy your burning curiosity.

You knew this blasted creature would not be happy but you didn't predict its rage. You're advantages are few. This library is not the place for a fight. At least it can't maneuver much better than you can. You have a few options.
Chance your dispel potion in an attempt to unsummon the beast.
Risk a fight in the cramped library, destroying precious, rare books and artifacts as you do. This will likely get you (and Jack for the summon) into trouble.
    Lastly, try and run.

Leave it to Jack to screw up a perfectly good study day. These are your spells. You'll only use them if you must.

You must consume the jumping mammal, it will be tasty.

Yes! Yes! Tasty, crunchy bunny hopper! You feed upon its fluff, feathers, and flesh. It even had a crunchy platter to which it was served on.

It had no energy, being a dead thing filled with fluff but you took its head. It makes a neato hat.

Oh dear! Your summon isn't doing what you wanted at all! You need to unsummon her before she causes any damage (or hurt Megan). This was the last thing you wanted to happen. A little trouble causing yes! But the two of them fighting? The situation has gone out of hand.

Quote Originally Posted by Jonath Nell View Post

This is the best kind of abandon you can make! Energies are wafting up from the hole. You must have it. It will be a scrumptious feasting the time you get down (hee hee gravity) there.

No Jay! Stop you can't go down there!

It's difficult to keep a hold on Jay, he has no bones and is wriggling about like mad to get to the hole. Could he get down there? You hope not but you don't want that risk.

Darn it Jay really now cut it out! I need to unsummon my other summon right now! Jay gods darn it!

Damn you Jack! Your summon is going to kill me! I bet you're watching this on one of those tawdry balls the master just keeps to show off and are having a huge laugh over this! Well it is not funny. Your tricks are stupid and cheap and if you don't cut this out right now you're going to be a murderer!

I never tried to kill you, you damned human! The least you could do is show the same damned courtesy! Is this the only way you think you can beat me? Getting me mauled to death by a giant vermin? You know what? You better damn well hope I don't have a death curse! You hear that?!

Oh gods, Come on Jack this isn't funny! You want me to admit I'm scared? Well yes! I'm scared! You damned egotist. I'm scared to death right now because I knew you were an imbecile but I never thought you would try to kill me! Jack? Jack! Help me, please, don't kill me!

That's not a cat, it's a long dead Manticore. No running needed. Besides, you have this horrible, spiteful elf to deal with. He hurt your eyes, he hit you, and he's making plans against your master. If not now, then soon. He's a threat and'll always be a threat until he's gone. You're a good summon, you'll make sure your master is finally safe.

Quote Originally Posted by PaladinFoster View Post

Your name isn't Megan and you need so much more than what you have right now for a portal and even so, you're way to terrified to focus on a location right now and oh god it's lunging.

The bite is searing and the pain is acute. This thing is as big as a bear and you do the only thing you can right now besides scream. You smash the dispel potion flask over the beast's head.

    It worked?
The beast isn't moving and is no longer trying to tear your arm off. Hot blood is flowing from your wounds, dripping down between your fingers. The wounds are deep, the arm is broken, and your heart is hammering against your chest. Despite this all you don't feel it beyond a persistent throb. This is shock. You're in shock. Gods, you hit the ground numbly, arm clutched, your eyes won't leave that thing.

    No more Squeakers!

Enough is enough you need your summon back now. You take hold of Jay by his cape and bring forth the energy to unsummon your vermin spirit. Summons can be unpredictable at times, especially the animal based ones. She's a good summon though so she couldn't have done much damage.

It's a good thing you know healing magic. Your water element could have been used to fight but you knew you were inevitably going to need to mend. This was never an easy life, chances are you're going to die before you even gain your familiar. The others are gone. There's you and Jack. His dumb luck and your careful planning. The other apprentices.. were there three?

Gods you can't recall the number in this state. How many left? How many died? You helped bury one of them. Such morbid thinking though. You're going to live. Look, the magic flows around your wounds even now, knitting bone and mending flesh. Damned vermin. Damned Jack. This is going to cost you half a mana point.

On the bright side you don't feel conflicted anymore. You'll follow through on your plan and will have no sense of doubt in your mind that you did the right thing.

Hope you're happy Jack. Your little ploy worked. I'm not studying anymore. See? I'm gong to get up soon as I can and retire to my room for the afternoon. This round goes to you. Now please, leave me be.

    Gods you feel light headed.

Hawk: Well, at least something good came out of this. Dispell potions can get rid of summons. Make a note to make a stronger brew and stick them in some vials should you ever get attacked again.

Jack: Go see how he's doing.

Jack: Be confronted by your master the moment you leave the door. Try to make up an excuse. And fast!

Jay: Grin broadly at Jack's Master. The guy's just flowing with energy, and you'd like to have some of that. You're very hungry after all!
