So, I had a similar idea to felicitousArtisan, depicting the Black King from a low angle for a sense of scale (I went a bit lower, though)...
Thoughts?

I just developed this mental image of the Equius/Nepeta intro. Feel free not to even consider this, but I like the idea of, as the fabric flows by for Kanaya's bit, it opens on a slow pan up starting at the bottom of Equius's foot, panning up to him doing a STRONG proud stance, then as Nepeta's part comes in, immediately having her come out from behind him and do something goofy over his shoulder. Then continue with the rest of their stuff.

nsinned, that looks awesome.
I drew and mildly animated a hurt Karkat, angle based off of Karkat's storyboard:
I hope this is useful!
WillSpark, I like that idea, it's neat and cute!
Maybe he could do that when Terezi's storyboard begins. I mean, so he does that and then Terezi steps on him. xD

I apologize in advance if this has already been thought of, but it's a pretty big thread so it's hard to keep up. I was thinking the flash should begin and end as being shown through Aradia's grainy soulbot video log. So there should be a sort of static-y transition through the "screen" into the battle, and then back out of it. Similar to this:
I think the static would go well with the raining sound effect at the end of the song, as well as transitioning from the very beginning of the song to the point where it really starts building up.

Given that I'll probably do a still of the portion of Kan's storyboard where she's looking up at the Black King from a low angle, this is beautiful and helpful to me in terms of getting a better sense of scale for the Black King. Only thing is that . . . I thought the Black King's eyes were white? On both heads?
This is cute and makes for a nice contrast given how grave I made Kanaya (or at least her clothing, lol) in the ending portion of her storyboard. Also, agreeing with Blaperpile about that Karkat being useful for the lead into Terezi's storyboard.Originally Posted by willspark
Possible Tavros Storyboard. Tav's section is very short and lacks a particular climax. It's also a diminished version of his theme, with the trumpet replaced by a violin; it's inherently kind of tragic and pathetic. In this case, I've gone for Tav 'jousting' or 'charging' the King, and getting hit before he actually manages to do anything. The Tavros section of the song ends with a not that kind of trails off with a pitch bend, so I just imagine him spinning off into the distance , then maybe a swift camera pan down to the contrastingly elegant Kanaya?

Poor Tavros
But yeah it's great and it fits really well
I did this Terezi that maybe could go in the tentacle cutting part of the storyboard
I finally discovered that pixelly stuff is no good for me
Oops. It turns out you're right about that. Only one head's eyes get shown, but they're definitely white (or at least they look like they would be white, if not for the soulbot video filter effect).
Oh, well... that wasn't intended to be a final version, anyway.![]()

EB: well you see, the explanation is perfectly simple and scientific.
EB: it was because shut up.
EB: shut up is why.
Or we could go with what someone suggested some time ago, that the Kings' eyes glow a bit red and blue at certain moments to show Sollux's lusus effects even more. And of course for the bifurcatedness.

Wouldn't Tavros be using Snowmans cigarette holder in this battle?
Haha, Tavros. :P
I guess there might be a part where he spirals out of the air somewhere at the end too?
Also, yeah, Tavros needs Snowman's Cigarette Holder. :X
My thoughts are potentially that we could use nsinned's bifurcated-eyes Black King for this:
Or something. Might also have a use in the opening with white eyes.2:33 - 2:55 (153-175s)- Black King reels backward. Crabclaw cuts trolls' platform lily pad in half. The Trolls are forced to jump to different lily pads. Terezi could be helping a still-disoriented Karkat. Maybe Vriska fluttering with god tier wings. Equius might be strongjumping with Nepeta in tow. Tavros could have the spaced-out Gamzee as a passenger. Kings' remaining eyes might also be firing red-blue beams ala Sollux, forcing the trolls to dodge those too. Everybody reaches new lily pads safely.
Looks pretty cool either way, though.

Oh, herp derp. Well that's where Photoshop layers come in handy anyway.

Oh, yes, I do have a fantroll.
Hey, Vequl, could you try doing a version with the hair as a clean plain black shape without all those squiggly lighter lines? I think it'd look better. As a general rule, if you're going for clean vector shapes, you should use them consistently throughout the image. The detail on the hair here is making the lack of a mouth and low detail elsewhere look weird and like you're being lazy, while if the hair was simple, it'd look more like the simplicity was a deliberate stylistic choice. Same for the shine on the glasses, instead of soft-shading it, make it a nice clean block of white, or just don't have a shine there. This is definitely more solid than the King.
Good, I'll work on something for these parts:
And I'm wondering, after the Black King's attack with the tentacles, are the trolls still on the same platform?
Aaand I really like the Tavros storyboard you made felicitousArtisan! It's exactly how I imagined Tavros's part (but with more interesting pictures).
Hi all! I've just made an account so I can participate in this project, in at least the base levels---having only the small laptop cursor surface (no mouse!) I'm not going to be making anything spectacular.
I've seen a lot of references to needing more shots of the King, but not a lot of detail of what's needed. Any particular angled shots, or things that he should be doing?
I want to add my vote to the matter of Gamzee's section... I agree that what exactly he *does* to the king shouldn't be visible, and that it should instead span the startled expressions of the other trolls. The sound effect at that point sounds like a brief shower of rain... how graphic are we willing to be with that?
Well, if we go with what I mentioned earlier (still unaware if it was a terrible and/or repeated idea), that moment could be interpreted as so shocking that Aradia's video log just sorta fizzles out at that point for a moment.
Far be it from me to deny anyone a bloodbath, though. I loves me some violence.

But I have another question - does anyone know what Vriska looks like during this battle? Is she wearing her god-tier outfit or not, what does her left eye look like, etc.
Also, this is apparently my first post. Hi.

From what I've seen through this thread, consensus is that Vriska is *not* wearing her Godhood, as she was not wearing it at the end of the fight canonically. Her eye and arm should both be restored, though.
Particular angles for the Black King aren't really a big issue. Mostly whatever looks good. As for what he should be doing -- right now all that's really needed is the Black King just standing in pose... But I'm not actually sure we need a lot of full-on Black King shots at the moment. I think there's currently enough for the first minute or so (which is the primary focus right now), so... Yeah. You're welcome to give it a shot either way. There'll probably be a bunch of places that need Black King stillshots at some point or another in the Flash, even if it doesn't get into the first minute.
To sum it up, mostly you're free to make stillshots of the Black King looking menacing, and in fact it would be very much appreciated if you did... but there's not really any pressing need at the moment, I guess. Don't feel like you've got to.
Vriska doesn't appear to have worn her God Tier outfit throughout the battle (apparently confirmed by Word of Hussie). But since she hit God Tier prior to the fight anyway and apparently stole the clothes off her corpse, she'd have a ripped sleeve on her coat and regular glasses lens (no eyepatch) and her arm/eye in working order. But I have another question - does anyone know what Vriska looks like during this battle?
