Re: MSPA Cosplay 3: Would you like some stabs with that?

Oh my gosh, that's an amazing Dualscar!

Whee, so, there's a month left until Afest (I think) and a friend is urging me to be Nepeta instead. So, I amassed a small list:

For the hat, I'm not sure whether to knit it or to make it out of fleece or something like that. I don't really want to buy one, since I'd have to chop it up a bit. If I did make it out of fleece, though, would it be a bad idea to make the horns out of fleece and sew them on to the hat?

I've lost control of my life!!
I hope you guys don't think I'm dumb and an attention whore, because I think you're all really, really cool. and I didn't want to make a bad impression, and I really didn't mean to write so much, I just get really super excited over dumb stuff, and... Yeah...
I wouldn't worry too much about it. As far as I know, the main point of this is to share cosplay pics and ask for advice.
Your Dave wig looks pretty good I'd say, and from most of the Dave cosplays I've seen, the bangs are pretty much the same length. However, I'm a stickler for being comfortable in a cosplay, (after all, if something annoys you now, it'll really annoy you wearing it for a whole convention day) so if the bangs are really in the way of your sight/poking your eyes, I'd suggest trimming them a bit more, but not too much.
As far as the Karkat wig goes, I'd say the cut is fine but it just needs to be styled a bit more. I wish I could help you more in this aspect, but I'm not exactly the expert on styling wigs. The past few wigs I've had, I just used a little bit of hairspray to style and give it some volume to accent the layers. The only thing I know is to NOT use gel, as it weighs the hairs down and just makes a huge sticky mess.
    Hope that helps!
I probably shouldn't really worry about it, since I doubt anyone really would give a shit. But I'd feel terrible if someone did give a shit, and I annoyed them. Really terrible, "let me serenade you into not hating me" terrible.

My Dave wig does get a little bit into my eyes. Not so much that it's stabbing me in my eyeballs and bringing a whole new world of pain and suffering to my being, but more so that sometimes it's a bit of a bother to see. I'm probably going to trim the bangs a little, and then ask some of my more experienced friends if they can help me thin it out a little more. Especially since if I did it by myself, I would probably completely destroy the wig. (I feel really bad having to have it cut again after I already got my friend to help me. Whoops!! )

For my Karkat wig, I'll try to stick to hair spray, since I'll probablywant to go for a messy look instead of "insanely spikey this was a terrible idea" look anyway. But it wouldn't hurt to test the hair gel I bought. It's conveniently made with cactus, so it's not sticky.
I'll spike my hair tomorrow and look incredibly silly for a few hours, and check out whether or not the hair gel holds or weighs down my hair. (Even though there's no point to testing it since I probably won't use it anyway, but hey! Spiked mohawk! )

This was great feedback! Thank you!

Hey all, I'm pritty new to this whole cosplay stuff (Like I've tried before and failed.) But I'm actually seriously trying this year since me and my friends are going to the London Expo. We've got a John and a Dave (We did have a Genderbend!Rose going too, but he had to drop out) So I went from going as Jade to going as Terezi. Since I fit alot easier into her. (lol)

Right anyway, enough rambling. I need help with how to paint shirts. I've got Dylon Paint yet when it dried on the black shirt... well it cried like it was on a black shirt. Nearly invisible. I'm now thinking I'm gonna need to go and get white fabric paint to go over it, then over THAT with the original colour. :/

It looked fine WET. But the colour completely dissapears as it dried. :/ Halp?

The stuff I went and grabbed around town and the art store. (That pole was a pain to carry for 5 miles)

My Vriska shirt took about five layers of paint. You just need to let it sit in between, at least until it's mostly dry, then brush on over the lines you already made. What's happening is it's sinking in to the fabric. So if you keep tossing it on while it's wet, it'll just keep going into the fabric wider and wider. But if you let it dry, it goes into the same fabric, until it kind of seals it, and then any further coats will sit on top. My shoes took, like, ten coats of red fabric paint, if it's any consolation.

I think it would be okay to use fleece horns. It might a little bit better looking (more accurate?) to make the horns separately out of Model Magic or whatever, but I do like the idea of sewing the horns on to the hat, I think it's cute that way, and then you could also wear the hat outside of cosplay, just for fun.

Out of the coats I liked the second better, for mine I just went to a military surplus store and asked for "the biggest trenchcoat of the biggest dude." I somehow magically got it for $20. (It was supposed to have been $50.)

As for hats, mine is going to be fleece with holes cut out for horns, but my sister is making me a knit one with knit horns just for fun. (It's hard to be kept warm in the winter by a hat with holes in it...) IMO plush/knit horns don't look as nice. (Also I am part of a big group and we all want our horns to look the same.)

I've got a question for you - how are you making Lemonsnout? Do you have some sort of guide or outline? I'd really love to make him for my own Terezi cosplay but I have no experience with sewing, so having somewhere to start would be great.

Why would you want to stab it ?

BTW can you use hand sew it or would it be easier with a sewing machine ? Because I'm an amateur Dx

If you can't use a sewing machine, it'd be easier to handsew. o3o

Re: MSPA Cosplay 3: Would you like some stabs with that?

I'm going to Aki-Con as Eridan this year. I need to fix my pants up and finish/paint horns/Ahab's Crosshairs/Science stick. The only thing I'm really having trouble with is his bloody hair. I'm prolly not gonna have a wig(or hair die for that matter - lol fakefakeyfake purple hair) and I don't know how I'm gonna manage it. Anyone have any tips?

Maybe you can buy a hair extension (much like this one -->http://s2.thisnext.com/media/largest...n/4BDE2D67.jpg) and incorporate it into the wig?
But I'm sure this method would work >.<"

    OKAY, MORE COSPLAY PICS.

    Also yes, I was really licking that Dave. She offered and I took up on it. XD;
