Bought the material to make the hat and tail for Nepeta, not really too sure to go about this hat but I'm sure there's got to be a good tutorial somewhere. (Links would be much appriciated, if anyone knows any good ones) I also bought a black t-shirt and some fabric paint for it.

How and where does one choose a wig? Would it be too hard to just use my natural hair? (These questions apply to all of them but mostly to trickster john)
It's best to buy a wig online because it's easier to find a good quality one and there's lots more choice. Personally, I buy my wigs from this store when I can and I'd really recommend them because their prices and quality are the best or you can just search on Ebay for one, make sure to include the colour and length of wig you want but that should be obvious. Make sure to pick a good quality one, if it looks very shiny in the picture it's best to avoid it and just use common sense when determining quality, it isn't too hard to tell a bad wig from a good one.

I'd personally recommend a wig over natural hair, it looks best in most cases.

Random picture from AFO, that John cosplayer was awesome (the one right next to me in the green, my friend is the John on the right) and so was the Dave cosplayer, she was awesome

If anyone I met at AFO is looking at this, I wanna let you know you're awesome!

Re: MSPA Cosplay 3: Would you like some stabs with that?

I've had this dislike for wigs since middle school, but I was looking at some cosplays and realized that they're much nicer than I made them out to be.
A while back I bought a wig for a cosplay that I never did (I only bought it despite my opinions because there was no way I was going to bleach my hair). So here's where I need some opinions and help.

It has a bit of a strange cut, but I figured with the hood on most of the time this would be no problem.

So, should I dye my blonde wig black for my god tier Vriska cosplay? If so, does anyone know the best way to go about this?

tl;dr : should I dye my wig (y/n) and how

Re: MSPA Cosplay 3: Would you like some stabs with that?

Sprinkles: That wig would actually work fantastically I believe. My God tier Aradia wig is long in the back, and it just got a huge mat in the back from the hood. Dyeing wigs is easy too, just use this guide:
    http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=152637
I've dyed a few wigs, I might be able to help if you have any more questions!

EDIT: If sharpies will be difficult, maybe you could use the FW ink mentioned in the thread above? I think I've seen it at my local AC Moore's, so you might be able to get it there if you live near an AC Moore?

The wig looks like it could work but I heard that it was impossible to dye a wig black, sorry. (I could be wrong though but I'm sure I remember hearing that) Since the dye in sharpies is actually dark blue or something and that's what's typically used to dye wigs. You can't dye it with normal hair dye just to note because wigs don't work like that.

Edit: I just found this in the FAQ for sharpie dying on the coscom thread:
Can I dye a wig black with Sharpies?
Yes, you can hand-Sharpie a wig to black, but I personally would just buy a black wig. Black Sharpie ink is not a true black, but a super concentrated purplish, reddish, or brownish color, and if your wig fades, it could turn funky colors. Like I said before, you're probably just better off buying a black wig or extensions.

    Oh you're so lucky! xD
I've been trying to convert my friend for ages and she just won't read it.
She's shown some interest in it, and I'm pretty sure she's scared of how long it is XD
    @ Sprinkle
I find myself agreeing with Toro. You don't want your wig to fade or turning funky so just buy a new one C:

My only friend at school doesn't read Homestuck, but she LOVES it.
She can't go on the computer to read it (unless during weekends at 7 in the morning by sneaking on) because her mom's always on it, and they only have one computer.
So instead of her reading it, I just tell her about it. I told her the whole story during lunch at school (took a few days... haha) and once school starts for me again I'm going to inform her about the updates as they update. And I got her hooked like that xD
She cosplayed Aradia with me (and is going to again at the Youmacon) and she doesn't read it.

Re: MSPA Cosplay 3: Would you like some stabs with that?

I finally got around to taking some of those in progress shots I've been promissing.

First of all just an overall look. I'm going for a pre-injury Vriska as I just don't have time to put together an arm along with everything else I still need to do on my other cosplay. It's pretty much done apart from aquiring some red shoes and painting the horns. I'm not entirely happy with my current head-to-horn attachment system, so I may revise it. It's a bit too wobbly right now.

Here's one of the Fluorite Octet I've been working on. Ordered a bunch of blank 8sided die online and then painted, glossed and drilled the pips. It's both glossy and glittery so it has a very cool fluoresent look to it.

I believe I have linked to Hayaan's wig tutorial in the OP somewhere. However, off the top of my head: Amphigory, Arda wigs, and cosplay.com all have quality wigs. I don't know what your hair looks like, but note that temporary hairdye that looks good is not really a thing. Your hair will be black for at least a few months if you use a good dye. If your hair is already blonde, you might be able to get away with trickster john's hair, but i don't know enough about hairstyling to tell you how to do that. But a wig would have a more reliable hairstyle.
Actually no, I haven't seen that movie.

hey guys! I haven't been on the forums in whoa, a while. in any event I've started working on a kanaya cosplay, and I want to keep you guys updated!

I'm making both her pink and purple dress and her black and white one. okay so I chose the two most difficult. got the fabric, made the patterns, here we goooooo

I am about to paint my horns, but I thought I would upload a before shot and then update with an after shot? I guess that would be kind of cool.

they have a wire base, which I curled to be more substantial. I then smooshed tin foil around the wire and covered that with electrical tape. it's a combination of two methods I saw out there, and required no special materials or trips. it was good for me, a broke teenager.

    Hey guys! :'D

Errr... I'm sorry if this has been asked before.... But I'm gonna be going as Karkat ((Patron Troll, FTW!)) for Dragon*Con this year, and I was wondering if anyone had a good idea on how to construct Homes Smell Ya Later? .....I.... don't know where to start on construction, really.

I kind of have an idea on how to make the blade, but for some reason, the construction of the handle is escaping me. XD Though ANY help or tips on it would be GREATLY appreciated!

((Thank you for reading this. ; u ; I have the rest of my costume done, except for making the Cancer symbol on the shirt, and attaching the horns to a headband. o_o ))

    Thanks so much!

I'd be happy to help, I've made a ton of the weapons from Homestuck at this point, and just did a Karkat cosplay of my own at Otakon. Here's a picture of my Homes Smell You Later.

In total, I used about $15 in supplies for the pair. The blades are carved from a 1inch thick sheet of floral styrofoam from AC Moore ($7), you can use any old kitchen knife to cut the foam. I then covered in in plaster bandage ($5 a pack), which is a plaster-laden bandage that you cut strips of, dip in water, and smooth over the item you are coating. The blade is as durable as a cast would be, and extremely light. I then painted it with acrylics. For the handle, I cut some 8inch lengths of 1inch diameter PVC pipe from Home Depot (which is really cheap, I have like 20ft of it in my shed) using a saw, and then because acrylic paint doesn't adhere to PVC, I painted some masking tape and spiraled that around the handle. To help show how I did that, here's a picture from when I was making the Warhammer of Zillyhoo:

For details I cut smaller pieces of masking tape using scissors and a knife (the green tip for example). I bought a set of PVC pipe caps for the ends of the handle. To attach the blade and handle, I first used a bit of hot glue just to anchor the blade to the handle (I made a giant blob of glue on the blade and smushed it into the pipe, making sure it was centered right). After the initial glue was set I used 5 Minute Epoxy (also from home depot) to completely cover the joint, and when it cured the blade and handle are completely fused, I'm not at all afraid of it breaking, and it endured plenty of bumps and drops at Otakon. You can paint over the epoxy easily. The picture up top is before the glue/epoxy, here's one of me with the finished props:

Glad to be of assistance, I'm looking foward to seeing how yours turns out. If you do get your supplies from AC Moore like I did, remember they ALWAYS have 40% off coupons (look online!).

My 5 pound Aradia horns were, in order, hot glued and tied to a headband, and then paper machéd, painted, and mod podged over. It worked incredibly well, but was not pretty. In retrospect, I would have definitely used the drill method spoken of in the OP.

It's not the attachment to the headband I'm having trouble with though unfortunatley. I can't get the headband to stay stationary whenever I move my head at all.
