Like the MSPA ask a simple question, get a simple answer, but MORE GENERAL.
Really? I could have sworn that someone had an avatar that did that? (Wheatthins I think?) It changed every time you loaded it on a page, I think. I suppose it could have been an amazingly convoluted gif.
You can't have random avatars on this forum.

It does, actually, if you allow remote linking of avatars, but we use avatar uploading because it is more secure and has less chance of causing performance issues.

Let's try to make this MOAR GENERAL...
Are reptiles a common household pet? What species in specific?
Yeah I'm not BIG MONEY enough for new pants, thrift stores all day err day.
Smaller reptiles are sorta common, iguanas and chameleons and shit. All the cool kids have komodo dragons though.
How does I make friends? I have the social skills of a loaf.
Also, thrift stores are the bomb and reptiles are not common pets in my area, but turtles are probably the most popular.
Well, I find the fastest way to make new friends (I assume you mean irl) is to go out and do something you wouldn't normally do, as long as it is something that interests you and/or that you would have fun doing. Go to a park you've never been to, take a new class at a community center, etc. A lot of times you find people with similar interests in unexpected places. Don't be afraid to do something alone, as long as you resolve not to keep to yourself the whole time.
This guy is some kind of goddamn wizard.
Etiquette question: What do you normally do when people joke-insult themselves when with you? For example, the other day someone was like "man I am terrible at science" towards me, and I just kinda joked back saying I'm doing much worse than them. But I imagine it can get awkward when you are clearly good or better at something -- if someone told me "hah oh man I'm so bad at sports", responding with "Oh it's fine I'm sure you're not bad or anything!" makes it seem like you can't get a joke, and responding with something like "haha yeah" makes you seem like a jerk. Thoughts?
The problem with these situations is that they vary from person to person, as well as on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes a person is legitimately joking, while another person might be insecure about their inability and just be trying to bring it up as a joke to make it seem like it doesn't bother them. Obviously it won't matter so much how you respond to that first person, but if you respond to the second person in the wrong way, it could hurt their feelings.
If you know the person well and you are very comfortable joking around with each other, it doesn't matter quite as much what you say, and sometimes (if you know they're really joking and that they are secure enough to handle it) you could (playfully) shoot the joke back at them or go with the "haha yeah" option. If you think that maybe they are insecure about their lack of sporting/science/whatever ability, you could (tactfully) try to reassure them, or redirect the self-insults to something you are not good at. For example, if Person A is bad at sports and Person B is bad at science:
Person A: Haha oh man I'm so bad at sports.
Person B: Ha, well at least you're not failing chemistry. I'm terrible at that stuff!
And of course, if you get stuck not knowing what to do, you could always change the subject or just not respond. After all, a little bit of awkward silence is better than inadvertently hurting someone's feelings.
Dear Simple Questions Thread,
Is it a completely stupid idea to make a thread dedicated to weightloss hints and tips here in the Gen. Chat? On account of while it seems like something someone should have already done, I have yet to see any such thread floating around.
As well, I would very much find comfort in thinking I am not the only fatty here on MSPA.
