I thought I'd told you that story before, but I guess not... I was unplugging my laptop to return home for the weekend a couple of years ago, back when we were all playing EVE together and everyone got along. :< Anyways, the charger got stuck in the wall outlet and I wasn't paying attention where I was grabbing. Touched the metal part and landed across the room. Was fun stuff, and my arm tingled for weeks afterward.

Oh, fun. I think you did tell me about that, but I totally forgot. Glad you're okay now, though.

But when they finally did appear, it wasn’t anything like that. There was no great fanfare, no descending of the mother ship from on high, nothing at all. One minute everything was normal, and the next, there they were.

Monday, June 15, 2041 at 9:12 am, just as everyone was pulling into the parking lots of their office buildings or running through the closest drive-thrus for coffee. Monday morning, the most unmagical time of the week, when the weekend has just passed and all anyone can see is the insurmountable pile of seconds ticking by to their next day of rest. Four and three-fourths more days until Saturday, and this is the time they chose to appear.

They didn’t even look like aliens in the conventional sense; there weren’t any little green or gray men wandering about, and we certainly didn’t have any sharp-toothed menaces tearing crossing guards in half. There was only a deep fog and too-black shadows which cut the ground-bound clouds like razor-lined sharks, leaving thin lines of clear air behind them.

There's a huge mouthbreather sitting across from my booth with his wife and two small children; he has the most obnoxious voice ever and looks like Kevin James if he shaved his head and wore Colts baseball caps. Today is the first day I've been up and out of the house before 10pm in two weeks; one would think I'd have done more with it than drive to the UPS store, saw it closed before I got there, turned around, bought cigarettes, went to this sandwich place solely for the free wifi and studiously ignored my homework in favor of pretending I'm accomplishing something by replying to people that talk to me in forum threads.

There was a discussion going on in general chat several months ago involving evolution. Essentially, people were discussing that if you were able to view a direct line of evolution from one species to another, viewed the generation after generation that would eventually become the new species, such little change would take place from each generation, that you would be unaware of any differences from the initial creature to the final one.

I was more interested in this phenomenon than anything. I wanted to see if there was a simulator that actually recreated this; I wanted to see if I could tell the difference in pictures as it changed slowly over time.

Unsurprisingly, I could not find such a simulator, so I decided to check out the evolution simulators that came up in the search. This was one I found incredibly fascinating!

Evolution Simulator

It starts with a generation of randomly colored blocks in a random colored environment: 25% of the block that stand out from the environment are killed, 25% are unlucky and die/do not reproduce, and 50% of the population continue on. With this flash, you can set the percentage of offspring presented with a natural mutation (change in color), although the default is 4%, change the background color, and the size of the population. I'd really recommend you just watch it for a while and see what happens.

I first started reading MSPA Adventures (Problem Sleuth at that time) in late 2008, after clicking a link on VGCats (which I was pissed off at for never updating and being all around sucky). I expected to catch up in the PS archive in about an hour, but 4 hours later, I was still reading and found that the comic updated like crazy! Found out later that this was a comic by the same guy who created some comics on TSO that a friend of mine would reference from time to time (for example, he used to have a lazy Susan on his table and would always tell me to stop being lethargic, Betty! (Betty is not my name))

I looked forward to the next adventure, because my same friend said he read on the site or in an interview somewhere that it would be influence by Earthbound. Needless to say, I enjoy Homestuck to this day.

Anyways. I'm allowed to post anything I want, eh? Sounds like to much to think about. I mean, being able to post absolutely any topic is a lot to consider. My first reaction would be to like, talk about how much I freaking love Modest Mouse. Or maybe envoke a deep theological discussion that would only further envoke deeper arguments. I could then wear a mask and become a desperado of the forums. Ride off into the sunset on horseback and pretend I'm Link in some Zelda game that THE RELEASE DATE GETS PUSHED BACK FOR >:[ Then lament about Nintendo and how their console is suffering because of a lack of good third-party games. This is why I switched to XBox. I'm super stoked that it's getting a Minecraft on it. I love Minecraft, it's the only PC gaming I really do. Unless you count MSPA as a game, because it's a pseudo-game, right? I sure do love MSPA too, as can be shown by the fact that I'm on the forums. I don't usually do forums. But this thread sure is interesting. Now I still need to figure out my one post.
