Wystus chugs a restoration potion, thinking it's booze. he attempts to pull himself out of the sobbing mess he has dissolved into, and is able to return to his feet. He holds his sword out in front of him and walks in a rather paranoid manner, twisting and turning at every sound. this is likely a good way to accidentally decpaitate someone.

he would have an inner monologue about all the things that had happened but his head was far to much of a mess. his mother? she was dead. how could this happen? was it the wizard? the notbeard? how could he do that to him? wystus would be sure to not allow him to slip behind him in a fight, the backstabbing necromancer.

    cant trust a beardless wizard.

Astebos Detects Magic. The door to the south is emanating a fiery anger.

Jophe and Werias take to the top door while Hazael goes through the bottom door! Go! Werias smashes the door rather unnecessarily.

They both lead to the same room. This room looks like an art gallery, filled with paintings and seven statues. The seven statues from the upper right to lower right are:

    1) a strong golem
    2) a ridged crocodile
    3) an ornate pillar
    4) a beautiful dryad
    5) a horned warrior
    6) a graceful deer
    7) an exotic zebra

Out of all the pictures, you find another strange painting that stands out from all the others.

This painting is engraved with the words "Captured". A half-elf thief is caught with a stolen apple by a group of intimidating soldiers.

Wystus chugs a potion of lesser restoration, bringing his strength back to normal. And hopefully his sanity as well. Probably not though.

    Travel Log:
Astebos: Burning Hands (1), Flaming Sphere used
Hazael: 5/6 1st level spells remaining

"What? Is that a statue of a pillar? Who would commission that? Why not just build a pillar? Also which of these statues do you think will try to kill us?"

Astebos went over to examine the paintings, particularly the one of the half-elf. "I swear," he said, "If that's not a painting of Wystus, based on everything we've seen so far, I'm going to eat my hat. Or I would if I had a hat." He shakes his head. "In any case, this place is starting to creep the hell out of me, and I'm sure Wystus is at the center of it."

Hazael says something in Abyssal, then turns to Astebos.

"I almost want to leave him here if he's just going to be a blubbering mess, but we have a job to do. Maybe there's something going on with these statues..."

Hazael tries to detect magic coming from he statues and messes around with them, starting with the closest one and working her way around counter-clockwise.

Hazael examines the statues one by one. Using Detect Magic, she detects that each statue has an aura of transmutation, which means they have the potential to animate by the way.

On the dryad's statue, Hazael finds an engraving of words on the bottom of the pedestal:

"Cast away the creations of man, and Deliver the Creations of Nature to me."

Hazael looks at the dryad statue, and begins trying to think of what it could mean.

    Suddenly.

Oh god. Oh god no never not here with zombies and these people. Stupid perverted statue.

She slaps the statue, but then maybe realizes that she's not thinking things straight. She instead tries to push the zebra, crocodile, and deer statues towards the dryad, and then tries to push away the golem, pillar, and warrior statues.

"Odd. I think it's referring to the other statues. The golem and the pillar are manmade. The deer, crocodile and zebra are natural. Not sure about the warrior.

    "You mean it's a puzzle?."
Werias examines the engravings of the remaining statues.

Wystus cautiously walks along, sword held in front of him timidly, following the group.

Rorie walks into the puzzle room and notices the moving of statues taking place. She climbs the zebra statue and rides it like an ornate mechanical bull.
She pipes up, "what do you think these statues are made of? Silver?"

"I don't know about that, isn't silver more...shiny? Looks like some kind of stone to me. Might just be really dirty silver, but I don't think so."

The party goes ahead and moves the statues to what they think is the correct position. Wystus and Rorie...do their own thing.

Werias examines the statues. The engravings are just the names of the "statue". Like "zebra". Oh, the statues are made out of marble, by the way. Nothing too special.

A pillar with a button rises from the center of the room.

    Well?

Jophe smacks that button. "No hesitation and no regrets."

Astebos quickly raises his hand in protest, and then lowers it slowly when the button has already been pressed. "You could have at least waited for someone competent to do some magical examination of the thing."

Werias steps closer to the rest of the group and raises his pickaxe in a defensive stance directed at the statues.

"Well, if it's going to take its sweet time whirring its way forward, I think I might analyze it after all. Not that I wouldn't find the pleasure of your conversation absolutely delightful." Astebos then proceeds to pointedly ignore everyone, particularly Jophe, while doing his best to work out what the hell is the deal with this button. Checking it for obvious attached mechanisms or imbued magic or anything.

Jophe smacks the button. No hesitation, bro.

The "Captured" painting falls to the floor, revealing a wall safe.
