life/general:

soon after birth/hatching/wtfever i decide upon l8r, to mirror the trolls' trials, the al'Seriph are sent out to make a pact with a fellow sea-dwelling creature, referred to as Oceanan. as they are taught of al'Seriph culture/religion/language, they are to care for their pacted creature, and given the short lifespan of such creatures, to carry a marker of their charge for the rest of their existance as a symbol of compassion. (i.e. wearing a tooth, claw, of one's pacted Oceanan)
anyway, if a blueskinned al'seriphan completes its pact, it is welcomed into The Hall-- a large, totally enclosed underwater structure akin to hogwarts sans magic, mostly due to size. they're taught the history, language, culture and religion of the al'seriph, and primed to undergo The Enlightening at a set age i have not yet decided on.
The Hall also houses redskinned al'seriph who complete their pact, though they are not taught skills like reading and writing, or history, only their religion and How They Have Failed It By Existing. (as well as cooking, cleaning, etc)
they're taught to focus and suppress their unnatural abilities, akin to water-bending from avatar i guess???, and prepared to spend their adult lives in servitude to the Enlightened.
adult al'seriph(Enlightened or their assigned servants)are moved to The Haven, where they live relatively normal lives, spent mostly in the pursuit of knowledge to feed the Collective, their universal consciousness accessed by the Enlightening process-- or in servitude, in case of the redskins.
redskins and blueskins alike who fail to make a Pact are exiled from the Hall and the Haven-- some manage by scavenging from the surface, but they can't last for long up there. it's dangerous work making it as an exile, and while uprising/takeover has been discussed(and dreamt about), their numbers are pitiful compared to the proper al'Seriph.

religion:

like for them the world is split into the Is, which is everything an al'seriphan can immediately perceive, and the Is Not, which is literally everything else.
dreaming is considered crossing into the Is Not, and a very traumatic experience for an al'seriphan
the enlightenment process consists of accepting the Is, eliminating your view of the Is Not entirely
you do not dream, you do not imagine
your sole dedication is to the world around you as you perceive it
and information about it is as valuable to an Enlightened as gold
they constantly seek to expand the Is
unaware of the Is Not they once feared.
they effectively reach another state of being.
the Collective is the entire ... well, collective of knowledge belonging to the Enlightened al'Seriph.
it is every piece of knowledge that exists of the Is.
Enlightened are blinded to that which does not exist, like imagination, but they are hyperaware/intelligent.
needless to say, some Exiled fully embrace having escaped that world.
some In-Training fantasize about Exiled life.
it's a two-way street, though
some Exiled long for knowledge and a stable life, even at the cost of their 'self'.

language:

and the reason for terms like 'al'Seriph' and 'al'Seriphan', 'Oceanan', etc
in the al'Seriph language, "-an" is simply tagged onto the universal descriptor of a certain group of people or organisms to denote a single representation of aforementioned people or organism.
seadwelling creatures that are not al'Seriph are simply considered 'Ocean'(and thought to be part of the sea itself), while a single fish or anemone or shark or w/e would be called an Oceanan.
the Exiled are the Exiled, but a single exiled al'seriph would be called an Exiledan.
so while the race is called 'al'Seriph', a member of it is an 'al'Seriphan'.

aesthetic differences:

some have markings of their respective flesh-color on their body? that is to say, the white part of it.
reds tend to have shorter head-fins by default, and many keep them cut to avoid having them grow out to an awkward length. while the organs/eyes/stuff on a blueskin are that lovely pink color, the eyes on a redskin are yellow, and its organs/internal junk are generally the same pink as a blueskins. when a redskin uses its powers, however, its internals all go bright yellow like its eyes.
presumably because redskins' powers involve a number of complex chemical reactions inside the creature's body or some shit.
that white skeleton-ish structure is more smooth-looking(than bone)by far.
and there aren't really any clearly-defined moveable joints.
it just kinda bends and stretches as needed.
oh, and
it isn't particularly uncommon to see al'Seriph without their lower halves. in fact, a number of the older ones have them removed for convenience, since they live underwater.
without the white bone-like structure of the pelvis and below, the 'flesh' that would normally compose those open thigh-parts of a legged al'Seriphan would fuse
and create a sort of fleshy 'tail'.

For example: I could saw my own leg off. This could be considered a productive activity (maybe). But I'm probably better off if I kept my leg attached to me.

If you want your fanadventure to suck, go ahead and use this, then, I guess. If you want it to be worth reading, make characters that actually have depth, strengths, and weaknesses. You now have three people who say this idea can't work. Maybe you should consider this.

Okay so basically they're divided into about ~1000 tribes on their homeworld, despite being quite advanced. They've colonized several worlds, they're generally a peaceful and friendly race. (Although quite deadly in combat.)

Each individual has head-growths based on the tribe they're from, like that guy is probably from the retarded gremlin tribe. In addition, they adapt to conditions extremely fast, so after a generation or two, a tribe of, say, volcano dwellers would find themselves with extremely thick skin and resistant to heat and such.

I'm going to call them the Blemin.

First of all, you appear to have made a race that can do everything. It adapts in (biologically, if you bothered to read chase's post throughly) five seconds, or in this case two generations allows someone to survive in a VOLCANO? Excuse me? The rest of us are stuck crawling along at the rate of say, new pair of mouthparts every few million years, while your race is apparently capable of adapting at enough speed that they would probably have eaten themselves to death by now. This is, shall we say, overpowered. I don't even know if you understand the meaning of overpowered sometimes, looking at your history...

Is that YOU are supposed to give a shit about them? If you're only going to say a few tidbits and leave it alone, how can you expect anyone to care? Especially if said tidbits seem, as said earlier, rather overpowered?

Tribal society seems like it'd have difficulties reaching the level of technology you claim them to have. They wouldn't be able to have talked in the past, so they couldn't have shared technology. I doubt a bunch of tribes would be able to form an intelligent force able to colonize planets effectively.

Also... "religion would be mostly tribe-based" says almost nothing. What does tribe-based MEAN? Are you saying it'd be similar to earth tribes?

What you're essentially saying is that your race are incredibly deadly in some, presumably physical way, and cannot be environmentally destroyed because they adapt in only a few generations?

I suggest a lot of weaknesses, or changing a lot. ESPECIALLY the adaptation thing.

Okay, I phrased the volcano part wrong. I was thinking more of living near a Volcano / in a cave with a bit of lava and pretty fucking hot (not unbearable, but just annoying). Over a generation or two, they would find that kind of heat perfectly normal, and would be a bit more resistant toward fire / lava, large fuckup on my part.

Physical Traits

A perfectly normal Blemin would be extremely weak. However, evolution has granted them a less stable form. Their bodies respond to injuries / unpleasantries that they experience a lot. For example, a tribe of Blemin who lives in a cave with a large amount of lava and heat, would, after a generation or two, find normal temperatures extremely cold, and the heat they live in to be perfectly normal, and generally less affected by heat.

However, this ability is not always that great, as this mostly just enchances their resistance to a particular problem, the above-mentioned tribe would have a large amount of trouble living anywhere besides their incredibly heated caves.

Each tribe generally has their own unique head-growth, although it varies between individuals.

Additionally, cosmetic features such as hair growth, eye colors, and sometimes skin colors differ between tribes. The skin colors tend to range between green, blue, and purple, however, rarely some go outside of this color range.

Due to their adaptations, certain Blemin tend to be physically superior to many other species. However, there are also many that, due to living in strange locations, have uselessly adapted in a way that has no effect, or even a negative one, on life in normal locations.

Culture

The Blemin tend to live in large groups, or tribes. There are maybe ten thousand on their homeworld. Each tribe is generally filled with like-minded Blemin, and many have their own unique religion, or at least a modified version of another.

An average tribe has maybe ~200 members, although there are several large gathering places, where adult Blemin tend to gather. These can be considered massive tribes, ones that prospered and multiplied faster than others. The bigger ones tend to accept members from any of the smaller tribes.

The total population makes up ~3 billion, although ~300 million live in the top 200 biggest tribes.

Children (they're not considered adults until ~22 years after birth, but it varies from tribe to tribe) tend to stay with their tribes until they are considered adults, although very rarely is this their choice.

The largest tribe, which handles most of the colonization (they colonize uninhabited worlds) and interspecies relations, allows representatives from other tribes to represent them diplomatically. Corruption is greatly despised, and if a representative is deemed corrupt, a common punishment involves death, although the punishment is decided by the tribe he/she represents.

Despite this, the Blemin are mostly a very peaceful, happy race, and tend to avoid conflict with other sentient beings whenever they can, but when cornered they tend to attack without mercy.

Although technological developments are hard to come by in small tribes, large tribes typically share their technologies with the smaller ones, and vice versa.

Interspecies relations and shit

The Blemin have yet to enter conflict with any other space-faring race, and most of their ships are merely colonization vessels, which they use to colonize worlds, although never inhabited ones.

Notable abilities / disabilities

Blemin physical ability is largely based on their style of life. Blemin with easy, comfortable lives will find themselves smaller and weaker after several generations, to reduce the amount of food they consume.

Blemin with harder, difficult lives will find themselves rather large and physically capable, to allow them to survive.

Psychic abilities are very rare among the Blemin, mostly found in tribes that find themselves near a certain mineral on their homeworld, which is known to have strange affects on all lifeforms, sentient or not.

Although most tribes have their own language, Blemin are typically taught both their tribe's language and the main language, which is used, or at least known by most of their homeworld.
