Who's Bec?

Regardless, you are now JADE HARLEY and your trusty HUNTING RIFLE is at the ready. Your GRANDFATHER would give you hell if you were ever to leave home without it. The FLINTLOCK PISTOL ACCIDENT you had when you were five and left you with a telling scar didn't change his mind about that.

But is this the right time to use it? It's not like you're being approached by a pirate ship or anything like that! The intruders to the quietness of your small pacific island are riding a WHALE, for crying out loud. And they seem to have horns? Okay, this is stupid. You know full well how humans look like, mostly thanks to your frequent visits to the hospital following the flintlock accident, and there's no subspecies of human with horns!!!

Now you're just REALLY CONFUSED.


Regardless, they do seem friendly. They seem rather EXCITED to see you, actually! Waving and shouting and-- you're pretty sure they're smiling, they're still rather far away and even with your glasses, trying to see things from a distance is kind of a pain. You figure you couldn't ask them to come any closer, though. You wouldn't want to beach that whale!

...I know that I'm the one who suggested it but now I'm confused. Dave and John still remember all their pre-Sburb interactions with the trolls (which is why John's chumhandle is ectoBiologist instead of GhostyTrickster) and their lives seem more or less the same, indicating that they're still the same people but just lost their memories of Sburb. But Jade's life has actually changed retroactively with no Becquerel and a living Grandfather and a bitchin' scar, which means that she's a different person than the pre-scratch Jade and never had the trolls troll her because she never prototyped Bec because Bec never existed?

The scratch resets the universe with slightly different conditions to give you a better chance. It appears the conditions that changed include Bec not being Jade's dog (actually quite helpful in that it averts any possibility of what screwed them over last time) and them not playing when they were 13. The trolls, in theory, do not look like they're there as a result of this process. However I agree with the theory that they're going to end up in a 16-player session.

No idea how they still had that conversation, though. If I were a troll I'd be asking for a transcript log about now.

edit: Sadly without Bec present it's very unlikely that Jade would be awake on Prospit, cool as that'd be.

Maybe that conversation didn't happen, as it couldn't have, since there was no Bec. So the scratch was selective in deciding what memories stayed and what memories were erased to prevent paradoxes. Of course, the trolls still had those conversations.. Just not these kids. Pre-scratch kids had them, not these kids.
