Leave Me Alone! (A Text Adventure starring Flandre Scarlet!)
Ridiculously late future-edit: If by chance you're coming to read this sometime after I ended it, I'm going to politely suggest (but only suggest) that you don't bother. It clearly kept some people entertained at the time, and I don't for a second regret it as a learning experience, but I cheated as a writer and and sacrificed a coherent (or perhaps more importantly internally-consistent) plot and characterization for extra drama and what I came to view as nonsensical angst. I am not happy with what it became, which is why it ended abruptly, but I'm not really ashamed either since I stopped when I realized the flaws inherent in the premise. In a way that's better than my first two attempts at a serious adventure which just floundered when a poorly chosen medium and/or insufficient writing skills clashed with my Grand Plan on what I wanted to do. Whatever the flaws, my goals in writing this were clearly in reach in a way my previous attempts hadn't been, and were partly obtained.
Alternately, you might not want to read it because it's probably going to be way less interesting without the interactive element. But that's up to you. If you want to read it, the original OP starts below this line.
--------------------------
Yes, this is an adventure using the Touhou cast, or at least a few members of it. No, it is not going to be sunshine and rainbows. In fact I doubt there'll be a single rainbow and sunshine hurts the main character's skin.
I encourage everyone to post in different colors (MODS: IF THIS IS SOMEHOW AGAINST SOME "MOD COLOR" FORUM RULE TELL ME NOW). Since this is going to be a story about interacting with you, I encourage you to interact with it in any way you can think of--if you have an idea, try it and then ask me for permission. There's at least one key thing I want people to come up with but can't actually tell you to do without ruining it. The only exception to this rule is please no pictures; it's not even my own character so fan-art is meaningless, and it's just easier to say you can't do any images at all than figure out when they're ok.
For those who know nothing about the setting, quick (but optional) summary:
Gensokyo is a fantasy world which was split off from the rest of the world to protect Youkai from the changing world--as the world became more technological and less superstitious it stopped being a place where they could survive. There is now a barrier separating it from the "outside world"; some powerful beings can generally pass through if they want and visit the outside world, but there's only a handful who can and they generally refrain from causing chaos there (in fact, there's only one that we can really be certain has that ability, and she's the one who FOUNDED Gensokyo so she won't go jeopardizing it). People also periodically stumble through by accident from the outside, and are lucky if they're not quickly eaten by a Youkai. There are in fact humans living in Gensokyo, including virtually all of the main characters, but there's also all manner of Youkai (magical creatures), almost all of whom look like little girls of some variety.
The villain of the first game after the series's continuity reboot (the sixth game period) is Remilia Scarlet, a vampire who tried to block out the sun so she could go outside during the daytime. One or both of Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame stormed in, beat up her and all her servants, and made her stop; they then settled their differences over a tea party. This is the norm for this series, and is how just about any incidents of a youkai causing trouble are settled; there's usually no hard feelings afterwards and a lot of the parties involved find the whole process to be a lot of fun. This is mostly possible because they use a formalized dueling system which prevents the loser from actually dying afterwards, though I'm sure they could stop following the rules at any time if they weren't scared of incurring Hakurei's wrath afterwards. The main characters of this series are explicitly among the setting's most powerful fighters.
The Extra State (bonus level from hell) had you return to the mansion and pay a visit to Remilia's much more poweful but less sane younger sister, Flandre, who lives in her basement...
In general, word of fandom is way more powerful than word of god and people write stuff based on all kinds of conflicting interpretations of both the setting and characters. This is the one series where at times the fans will outright IGNORE things the author says that conflict with what they already believed, though in the one instance I can think of I'm pretty sure he was adding details specifically TO contradict his fan's use of a minor character.
Have fun breaking her!
I wake up. I don't know if it's morning or night; there's no windows in my basement and I don't want any. I'm not even sure which would be better anyways, so I lose track. There was a clock, but I kinda broke it and Sakuya hasn't gotten a replacement yet. The clock still thinks it's 7:30. It has for a few weeks.
They haven't started yet, which is nice. They probably didn't notice I'm up yet. I don't get very much quiet in my own head. I guess I ought to examine my room again. My bed is over here; it's made out of something really strong but I still have to be careful with it. There's a diary I don't use and a lot of toys that I don't really care about and a few games from Outside that Remi bought me whenever she saw someone had one, but I don't think she really read the boxes. Most Outside games are for two to four people. I don't get that many visitors.
There's a whole bunch of bookshelves, probably more than a lot of libraries. I've probably got the second biggest library in Gensokyo, and wouldn't have to leave the house to find the first. I've read them all twice though. Most a lot more. It's not always easy to concentrate on books but there's nothing else to do down here. Patchy doesn't give me new ones very often, I think she thinks I'll break them. But the voices get bored when I read so I can't always do that.
And there's the piano. It's a really old, really fancy one, because Remi doesn't own stuff that's not old or fancy. And every time I break it she gets Sakuya to take it and get it fixed right away, even though it'd usually be cheaper to just get a new one, because this piano is important. They're almost always quiet while I'm at the piano.
It's really boring down here but I'm not supposed to leave. If I leave I'll probably break more people. It's really boring down here and it's been really boring for 500 years.
Oh yeah. My name's Flandre Scarlet, and I'm a vampire. But you probably knew that already, since you've all been living in my head.
Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Gensokyo-set text adventure)
I'm here too. I... can't actually think of anything to call myself. You should probably avoid drinking rainbows though. I hear they are toxic when ingested.

Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Gensokyo-set text adventure)
Bored? Nooooo...I was never bored. (Impression of a yawn, a feline stretch) Why, I encourage you to read. A book is just as good the third time. (Impression of wings unfolding, then relaxing) Why not read some more? I would enjoy it. (Impression of a grin becoming a smirk) The other voices can deal with it.
Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Gensokyo-set text adventure)
Oh there you are. Umm, you seem more polite than a lot of the other voices I think. Most of the time everybody's just really angry at me. I guess not all of you are saying stuff that makes sense, but that's ok. I don't think my head's the safest place to live.
Since you're being nice, I think I'll let you guys choose what I do this morning. (I don't think it's really morning but if you want to call it that you want, I think most of you are humans and humans like to wake up in the morning). Actually I usually do that anyways so you don't whine as much but this time I'm doing it to be nice to each other instead! I've got books about just about anything, and the piano, and, uhh... that's pretty much it I think. Right?
Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Gensokyo-set text adventure)
Outside? N-no, I'm not allowed to go outside. I'll get in trouble! Remi said I need to stay in here because if I go outside--
Liar.
No it's no--
Remilia doesn't care if you go outside. She never tries to stop you or even change your mind. You can leave any time you want.
I shouldn't go outside. If I go outside there'll be too many people who are easy to break. So I'm not allowed to--
Whenever Flandre comes back Remilia just gets this guilty look on her face and asks her not to again. Like she somehow thinks it's her own fault that her sister turned out to be a killer.
That's not true, Remi is--
I won't sit here and watch you lie to them. There I draw the line. You're not trapped in here. You're just scared to even try being out there. You'll rot here forever, completely alone, and us along with you!
Sorry the need for drama forced me to ignore you billybobfred. Try again later!

Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Gensokyo-set text adventure)
Oh I'm noone. Noone at all. Just a guy who doesn't forgive as easily as you lot seem to. You go ahead and play with the bitch if you want to, I don't care. I'll stay out of your way, just as soon as she stops lying.

Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Text Adventure starring Flandre Scarlet!)
So she heard "this is a bad idea" and thought "this is not allowed". Is it really that much of a difference? Also Remilia clearly does care if she's bothering to get a guilty look and all that.
Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Text Adventure starring Flandre Scarlet!)
Hello there Ms. Scarlett, sorry I only just got to you. I too have had to deal with not going out and about because of the frailty of the common people, and I think you shouldn't blame yourself for their weakness. You are special Flandre, and I and my compatriots will teach you just how much you have to offer the Earth. In fact, the strength you possess is a rarity, but you are not alone, oh no not alone by far. Yours is a very special planet, born out of very special circumstances, if only your 'sibling' would tell you. But she is afraid, not blamelessly of the ones higher than herself, from whom she is but a cheap imitation, an exaggerated knock off pretending to the throne. Check the library little angel, we need to look up a place called England. Oh! I should ask, how much practice do you have with card games and what do you associate with the words 'clown' and 'troll'?
Nah it's not like that. Really I think it's a waste of time to argue that Vriska was anything other than completely amoral. Her entire worldview is that being fiercely competitive and trusting only in one's self is the best way to get ahead in life; what makes her interesting is that she's exactly right. sure, it cost her a lot of friends and close relationships, and maybe she wished she could have let her guard down around others, but for better or worse, that simply not the reality she lives in. So instead, she played it to the hilt and played to win. We know she had a chance of singlehandedly beating Jack Noir. Who knows how far she could have gone if she had just stayed true to her principles? Instead, she's dead now (and this is important) because she trusted a comrade not to stab her in the back.
I love Vriska about as much as anybody, and this is pretty much the perfect culmination of her character arc.
Upon this a question arises: whether it be better to be loved than feared or feared than loved? It may be answered that one should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, is much safer to be feared than loved, when, of the two, either must be dispensed with. - Niccolo Machiavelli "The Prince"

That's r-right, Remi doesn't want me going outside. You're wrong about her, you, you...
I won't go outside. I won't!

Umm, England is a place in the Outside world. Remi sometimes talks about it, I think we're from there before we came here. Which makes us special because most of the people in Gensokyo are from a place called Japan, which she said is really far away from England. Was there something you wanted to know about it? But I can't really remember anything that far back. I don't know how Remi does it, she's even older than me but she remembers absolutely everything! It's really amazing. I think maybe it's because she doesn't have to share her head. Maybe there's something about it in the library, Patchy has a whole section full of books from Outside.
Oh yeah, umm, I don't really know much about card games. I usually rip them if I try to shuffle it and there's nobody to play with. I don't know what you mean with clowns and trolls though. Aren't those both youkai? I think the clowns all tried to stay Outside instead of come to Gensokyo so there's probably not many left. And trolls are supposed to be really hard to break, I think? I don't think I ever met one.
I think one of you was asking about food earlier too, so I just wanna say for everyone that I never ever ever eat humans, ever. Sakuya or the fairies come by a three times a day with food for me and whenever I ask she always tells me what animal the blood came from and it's never human. I've also got a little bell in my room I can use if I'm really hungry and it's not a normal time, but I always eat right before bed so I'm not hungry now.
(It can be hard to keep track of everything you ask about, you guys talk really fast sometimes!)
I guess I don't know much about any of the things you asked about, Mr Curious Person. Maybe we can go to the big library upstairs? I think it's ok to go there, Patchy doesn't like me being too close to her books but Remi says it's ok as long as I don't touch any of the really fancy ones. So Patchy made a whole section that I'm not allowed in and Remi said it was too big and she had to make it smaller. Do the rest of you want me to go there? I don't want everybody suddenly turning angry at me and start yelling...

Yes! Go read The books Flan-Flan!
And then You can play word games with Patchy! You guys will become friends then she might let you try on that hat of hers. =3
There are words here.... Do you wish to read them? Yes / No
Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Text Adventure starring Flandre Scarlet!)
Hat? There's a hat involved? Procure this hat immediately! Check your room for hats. If you have any, wear all of them! One can never have too many hats!

Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Text Adventure starring Flandre Scarlet!)
Ohh, uhh, I always forget how important hats are supposed to be. I don't really get it, but people say you're not really dressed right if you're not wearing a hat. I'll go get my hat before we go... there it is! My hat looks just like Remi's, it's pink and a little goofy and it has a red ribbon in it.
I don't think Patchy would give me her hat. People in Gensokyo can be weird about hats. But I guess that means you too, right?
Re: Leave Me Alone! (A Text Adventure starring Flandre Scarlet!)
Yes,off to the library, but hold on! If you've any board games you should pack those in a backpack and take them with you. If you find any cards lying about on your way to the library, pick them up, they'll be useful later.
We simply must get you a better hat - more than one perhaps, but for now use the one you've got. My, my...

... Does this adventure have captchaloguing? I guess that's an important consideration for this plan.
Oh William, we won't be getting to that just yet. There are some very special people we need to meet in the Land of Crumpets and Rain Clouds first, and THEY will certainly be more accepting of our friend's circumstances. And there's a hat there as well she'll look PERFECT in. For now that silly hat will do fine. Anyone else for finding an umbrella?
