GNOME. 3. SUCKS
List of Problems I Had With Ubuntu 10.04 (uses GNOME 2.0):
Had to use a workaround to change mouse cursors
...that's it.
List of problems I have with Ubuntu 11.10 (Uses GNOME 3.0):
There is screen tearing in EVERY SINGLE WINDOW MANAGER except for Compiz
It takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what friggin settings to turn on and off to get stupid Compiz to not have screen tearing too
20% chance of the screen freezing when switching workspaces (aka. virtual desktops) (requiring me to either restart X, which takes 2 seconds but often makes things glitchy (it didn't make things glitchy in 10.04) or to completely restart the computer which takes 20 seconds (it adds up))
Screen freezes after locking the screen
Window settings are not as customizable
Still has the mouse cursor changing issue
Default settings are so sucky it's not even funny (Luckily you can change almost everything (down from Ubuntu 10.4 where you could change EVEN MORE))
Needed to do a mouse polling work around to prevent lagging when moving windows (yet not any lag at all when playing fullscreen 3D games with rediculous quality settings)- still only works when the mouse is in 1 specific USB port
Had to disable Double-Buffering (and, by extension, tripple buffering) to get screen tearing to stop
Certain windows take a few seconds to close after clicking the X (this is not normal on Linux)
Had to edit one file to get Compiz to start automatically in the first place (I thought we were supposed to be making Ubuntu USER FRIENDLY. Come on people, this is almost as difficult to use as Windows. Possibly worse with all these bugs)
Compiz's performance very slowly decreases over time (like over the period of 2 days). NO. PROGRAMS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO GET SLOWER IN LINUX. GET OUT.
GGGGRRRRRRRRRRR
Yeah, I gave it a chance. I'm going back to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS where everything was perfect and easy.
Protip: Never install a version of Ubuntu that's not LTS (Long Term Service). They are more like Alphas.
Anyone get the default gateway problem on windows seven?
Well I have it on my brand fucking new gaming utility computer.
FUCK
Just...
Fuck...
I have no way of expressing my anger!
It's so angry
My new computer.... :<
My microphone isn't compatible with it. I have a stupid version of paint. I can't use printscreen. I have some weird program instead of WMM. On the bright side, I have a few more keys on the keyboard then the average laptop. But that's kind of it?
TG: oh hell that is such a coincidence i just found an unopened container of apple juice in my closet it is like fucking christmas up in here
My computer, for no particular reason, just melted. Kind of sucks, considering the amount of love and affectation (and money) I lavished on the beast. Going to cost a pretty penny to put another one together - no way is this one coming back to life, but the harddrive at least is intact, so that saves quite a bit.
I'm just here for the drinks.
Stock router firmware is crap.
If you're lucky enough to have a compatible router, this might help
All the development budget got lavished on making them look nice.
In other news, the house I'm currently living in has a kitchen wired by an insane wizard. The toaster oven's timer doubles as a dimmer switch for the ceiling lights, and if I try to heat up something in the toaster oven and turn the microwave on at the same time, it blows all the fuses or something.
I'm seriously tempted to plug a hair dryer in and turn it up to maximum to see if it tears a hole into another dimension.
Damn is this ever true.
Ventilation shafts are ugly! Let's put one, have it right next to the joint for the screen, and in fact is where the screen joint turns, and then have the fan on the opposide side of where the vent is. Directly through machinery! It's a stroke of genius
You know what else is ugly? Mouse buttons. Since we already got rid of one, let's take the one we do have and make it the mousepad! Nevermind that you now can't move the mouse and click it simultaneously, it looks pretty!~
My system76 laptop is the only laptop I have ever gotten that is physically logical. Seriously.
PROTIP: Don't buy HP laptops. Ever. During the years that I had the laptop, the fan stopped working properly and making an annoying noise every 1/10000th of a second, the hard drive broke, the screen appeared to be specifically designed to suck all dirt in the air to the space behind the screen where you can't get it out, and if you use Windows (the operating system that it came with) the sound driver will crash literally 25%-50% of the time you startup the computer.
My friend has very similar model of the laptop as me. He hasn't had any harddrive errors, but he has to prop is laptop up on an angle otherwise it will overheat because it was designed in what it probably the worst way that is physically possible. In fact, I think some of the heat was magic.
I sympathize with you; the Macs at my school can slow down in Google Chrome and you have to wait a minute to load a webpage if you open and close the laptop. It also tends to crash on these very forums for no apparent reason.
In Windows news: Minecraft slows everything down on my computer except itself and crashes frequently. I open multiple windows just so I don't have to wait for it to load up again when it goes down.

When more RAM gets added to the average system someone owns, developers don’t say “oh goody, more space for people to run all their apps!” they say “oh goody, more space we don’t have to optimize out!”
definitely panic if there’s caviar
So anyways, I'm doing my college education online because I don't deal with people well.
I start tomorrow.
My laptop chooses now to start crapping out on me and I won't be able to get a new one until the end of February.
Its reezing every couple of hours, constantly not responding, won't install things properly making weird noises and just being ridiculous.
Fuck you laptop, fuck you.
If it had a virus, I would cut it some slack and I may even feel sorry for the little shit, but it has no virus.
It's just being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk.
Although, it has done it's job for about two and a half years, so I can't complain too much. And it was apparently some sort of base model for Asus?
The point is, it's turning into the hugest asshole when I need it the most.

My laptop totaled itself the day after Christmas. No warning, it just ground to a halt and when I restarted it nobody was home. The best thing was, when I ran a system check it said everything was fine, but if I then tried to QUIT the system check it crashed!
Took it, begrudgingly, to the store to get it fixed. They wanted 70,000+ to fix it (I don't own a solid gold computer with diamond-encrusted keys, I live in Japan. That's basically $911.) plus another 10,000 ($130) to transfer my data. Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaah no. I said "or I could just buy a new one for not much more" and the guy sheepishly admitted that would probably be a good idea.
I walked out of there with a new laptop and the unwieldy corpse of the first one. And I didn't get any of my stuff transferred cause I don't love my collection of cat macros enough to pay $130 for them.

Luckily I was pre-warned and prepared for this bullshit. I brought an external hard drive with me so they couldn't charge me for one (nice try!). They tried some bizarre thing to offer me a "one on one course" for $130 which may or may not have been related to transferring my data, but I said no. In the end they gave me a voucher for that course for free (?). I have no idea what's going on in my life any more.
For every time this is mentioned on this thread I'm surprised at how many products are still sold. iPods SUCK. I don't have one and I never will. Macs SUCK! I also don't have one of these and I never will. But this isn't a blind HATE for Apple/Mac/iSomething. I have tried out many of their products, at various lengths of time, at places like friend's houses and at school. School. All of School's electronics are shitty, but I don't blame them because of all the budget cuts Wisconsin has been getting recently. I mean jebus Scott Walker, do you want kids to be smart or dumb?MAC
That was starting to get off topic.
My personal issues with electronics? My internet cuts out on me every 10 - 50 minutes. It then take up to an hour to reconnect. I'm hoping to get a different router or service soon. But who knows how long soon will be with all the contracts practically EVERYONE in the house has to sign. /Obvious Exaggeration. And on top of that the signal is seemingly small. At anywhere from 1 to 3 bars at max, I'm actually wondering if I even have internet or if I don't and am just borrowing someone else's internet that just happens to have the same name and lock and all that jazz... I have sense given up on trying to do anything with Youtube.
AND NOW MY INTERNET TIME TRAVELS TOO!
I'm upset because I had taken screenshots to prove it, but forgot to save one before I took another. So it just ended up looking like a bunch of random shots of webpages that makes no sense. But, as an example: When I'm on furaffinity.net ((like a furry version of Deviantart)) it tells me on the top of my screen how many submissions and notes and comments and stuff I had. So I proceeded to remove all of them, having checked them all at that point. Two more pages later it tells me I have the same amount of messages. I click to see them and they aren't there. This happens frequently on furaffinity and on other pages on the internet, telling me I haven't commented somewhere I had on forums, or telling me I never signed up for their site when I was just logged on. It's irritating. >:O
Just wondering, does anyone else have a time-traveling browser?
AS A WARNING!: My internet fluctuates. I may disappear randomly.
Sounds like it could be a caching issue. Especially if you get disconnected a lot (your browser could be using previously cached pages when your connection is dropped)
Try disabling web page caching (In firefox it's under Advanced -> Network -> Override Automatic Cache Management, then set the limit to 0) and see if that makes any difference.
