EDIT: Here's the animations for Act 2. Some of them still have the buttons, because we've already gotten past that point in the videos.
Those might be really handy for us. Thanks, Shadow!

@Vespa glad to hear you're still around! I think that's right. We'll drop a message if it's not. Have you been set up with the group dropbox? You can just record your lines whenever and throw them in there. It's very convenient!

@fA, I haven't! I'm vaguely aware that we have one, but that's about it, haha. :I I will hopefully be on Skype tomorrow, so if it's something that requires an indepth explanation, maybe someone can fill me in on it then. (At the risk of sounding "hold my hand"-ish, do you know what, if any, is the group standard for file format and quality? Just so I'm not sending mp3s when I should be sending wavs or something.)

@Badger, I hope your brain can decompress into a less frazzled state soon! :0 I'm 99% sure those are PM's first lines, but I'll stay on my toes and keep up with the group's progress just to be sure.

    @Nicky, consider me so hyped.

Hey there, everyone. I was linked here by a watcher of a Homestuck Dub video I've done; This is a really good project you guys have here, and I'd definitely be interested in getting in on it if you guys are all right with a forum newbie doing so... XP I shall send in an audition email when I get the chance.

You are more than welcome to show us what you've got. I myself joined this project after only about 3 forum posts. All that matters is your skill. I saw that video you did, and liked what I saw. However, nothing I saw currently fits in this project since we've already got a John, Dave, and Narrator. So yeah, we're going to need an audition to see if you can pull off one the characters we still need. For major characters, we're missing only Eridan and a secondary narrator for the troll parts. There are also a few minor character slots open (the full list is in the first post), but those are less urgent since we have people already on the team who can cover them if no one blows us away with quality. (Also, it's not listed on the page, but we don't have a dedicated Andrew Hussie yet, so that's another option). Best of luck!

Ok, I have done an audition for eridan, and I should get an email in a few days(or weeks if you have that many auditions and/or get a lot of emails per day and if the people have real life things to sort out). It's a good thing that I'm a proper english teenager(13 years old). Good luck to the others who have also auditioned for eridan and other characters who are waiting for a reply on the forum or via email.

    Re: Let's Read: Homestuck!

    IMPORTANT POST UPDATE TIEM:

Due to unfortunate circumstances, Tsuki, our VA for Nepeta Leijon has had to step down-- we're not very pleased to see her go.

We were all excited to see what she had to offer but we weren't at that stage in the story. The reasons that she left were personal and shall not be disclosed.

This having being said, the VA role for Nepeta is now open again.

    AUDITION WINDOW: 10/24/2011 - 11/30/2011

A final answer will be given at this deadline- but if we feel that you're not right for the part at all, you will be advised.

TO ALL PEOPLE AUDITIONING FOR ERIDAN -- PLEASE READ OR DIE:

It's come to our attention that most people auditioning for Eridan have a very similar idea of what Eridan is supposed to sound like and it's largely the reason why people are getting so frequently rejected from his position.

People are focusing too much on the vocalization of his quirk and not enough on actually acting the role out so they come out sounding like two day old soda with no pop. (I can't believe I said that.)

Eridan is, in other words not my own, a stuck up asshole who thinks that he's "the hot shit" with a side order helping of vague insecurity despite flaunting his "nobility".

    DO:
Sound like you've got a problem.
Act like you're better than most people.
Be that guy who sobs in the corner when nobody is looking.
A light coating of whining wouldn't hurt either.
    Try something DIFFERENT.

    DO NOT:
Put all your effort in to vocalizing the speech quirk.
    >>> Your effort into vocalizing the speech quirk.
    >> Vocalizing the speech quirk.
    > Speech quirk.

Only attempt if you're fully, 100% confident in yourself. Please.

To all of you willing to try, best wishes and good luck! THE RAT RACE IS ON.

    Re: Let's Read: Homestuck!

A lot of people ask 'what we're looking for' especially those who get turned down after an audition. So I'm going to clearly say here:

    1. A good interpretation of the character and suitable voice type. There's a lot of leeway here, but you have to be sensible about it. Sometimes the person's interpretation and concept is a really good one, but they just don't have the voice for it, for example, somebody may envisage a really harsh and rage-filled Eridan and have it undermined by their own soft voice. Don't just go for a character because they're your favourite; consider your voice type.
    2. Clear enunciation. We can't see your lips move so you have to speak a little more clearly than when you're talking than you would if you were in a room with somebody or on film.
    3. Confident delivery. If you're under-acting or mumbling because you're shy and there are people in your house when you record, that's no good. If you read with an odd rhythm that makes it obvious you're struggling to read the words at the same speed you speak, that's no good either. Also, if you don't know the pronunciation of a word, look it up! We've had a slew of narrator auditions who pronounce 'chitinous' incorrectly, which is okay, it's an unusual word, but we've had two or three who can't pronounce 'sobering' (it's sober-ing, 'sober' with an ing on the end, not 'sobbering') which is not a specialist technical term at all and does not bode well if you're auditioning for a part which will have a lot of advanced vocabulary flying about! If you don't know a word, so decide to just mumble it, we will notice! Most online dictionary and encyclopaedia sites have pronunciation guides and even an audio recording for words, so there's no excuse. And yes, I am aware that sometimes our own VAs say something incorrectly (Badger with the word 'lilacs' for example) but we do try to minimise this if we can catch it.
    4. ACTING. We are not just looking for people who read the words. We want somebody who can enthuse their role with personality, and that includes the narrator.
    5. Consistency. We don't want somebody who can do the voice great, but drops out of the voice as soon as they try to put any kind of strong emotion into it. We want somebody who can clearly speak their lines in an appropriate voice with appropriate emotion for the scene.
    6. Recording Quality. Must be nice and clear with minimal background noise.

    Roles that are still open:

Eridan: Give us something that is proud and aggressive, but also kind of whiney. Don't just be a poor copy of Octopimp. Remember there are a few elements to him: Hipster, Wizard, Nobility, Romantic loser, Genocidal Maniac. An ideal Eridan will be able to give us all of these.
Nepeta: We want something that is cute and playful, but not too exaggeratedly cutesy and maybe with a little wildness to it. Her major elements are: Catgirl, Huntress, Fangirl, Shipper.
Doc Scratch: This guy is sophisticated and calm, he is a genial, inviting host. He is also a trickster sometimes and a bit seedy and creepy. He's full of himself and smarmy. You don't need to give him an English accent, we'll take any accent so long as it sounds sophisticated.
Narrator: MALE OR FEMALE. It doesn't matter which! We're looking for somebody who through their accent, delivery or gender is a nice contrast to Badger. You will be the narrator for the Troll sections, and so in keeping with the darker mood, we want something a little more edgey and less genial sounding than Badger's narration. We do, however, want it to be lively and engaging, clearly spoken and a pleasant voice to listen to with a sense of confidence and authority.
Exiles and Midnight Crew: I have no idea, give us something that's funny, but still clearly audible. These roles are a bit more cartoonish in nature, so you can push into wackier territory. For the Midnight Crew, I recommend some kind of stereotypical 'gangster' accent such as Brooklyn or Cockney. Please note, not all the Exiles and Midnight Crew are open. Check the first post in the thread.

very helpful advice. I should get my shit together and try a new voice... I'm a bit torn by the previous post about not wanting us to bother you guys with repeat auditions though.

I suppose I should also throw in that I sent in an audition for Eridan, Doc Scratch and the Alternian narrator about five days ago or so; just saying because I never got any kind of response, lol.
