WHAT IS IT?
This program is designed to be used as a kind of short-cut bar in the style of the Homestuck sylladex. Drag and drop files, images and text to the sylladex for easy (or not-so-easy) access later.
In the future, you will be able to put the program onto a USB stick and then use it to access your files on the move.
Oh, and did I mention that you can make your own fetch modi? Well, you can.
HOW DO I USE IT?
Captchaloguing
Simply drag and drop files, images or text to your sylladex.
Captchaloguing Widgets
Drag a .sdw file to the dock. The program will search through the widgets/ directory for a matching widget.
Retrieving items
Left-click to retrieve an item. If it's a file, this opens the file. Otherwise, the data gets copied to your clipboard.
Right-click to retrieve the item without removing it from the deck.
Some modi might require that you left-click on the dock to retrieve an item.
Changing options
Right-click on the dock or the system tray icon to access the preferences window. From there, you can also change modus and add cards to the deck.
The "Fetch Modus" tab is equivalent to looking at the back of the modus in Homestuck.
Closing the application
The system tray icon can be used to quit the sylladex program.
WHAT'S IN THE DOWNLOAD?
- Five fetch modi: Encryption, Hashmap, Queue, Stack and Tree
- The Sylladex program (a runnable .jar file)
- Some captchalogue-able .sdw files
- A reference guide for fetch modus and widget developers
HOW DO I INSTALL IT?
General:
Download SDECK.zip. Unzip it to the folder where you want to run it, and double-click SDECK.jar.
Windows/Mac:
So I have a folder My Documents/My Programs/SDECK and in there is SDECK.jar.
Winrar (why do you use Winrar, seriously...) sometimes likes to extract .jar files instead of executing them, apparently? So you might have to right-click on the file to run it, rather than double-clicking.
Linux:
You may have to chmod the .jar file so it's executable. Possibly. I don't know.
FAQ/TROUBLESHOOTING/GENERAL STUFF
Make sure you have Java 6.
It keeps crashing/it slows down my computer
I think that the Pesterchum widget and the Update Checker widget might have problems in this version. I'm really sorry about this. For now, enable notifications from within Pesterchum and use a different update notifier. If you have any other stability issues, report as a bug (with as much detail as possible) on github (link below).
Why no Mac/Linux support?
It works on Mac but the program has to have focus to respond to mouse events. There's pretty much nothing I can do about this. Sorry.
It works on Linux but there's an annoying graphical bug.
The Hashmap modus is all wrong!
Yes, I changed it because it was really annoying to have the cards taking up half the screen. Oh, and you can't add cards to it, but that'll change.
How do I add a mapping to the Hashmap modus?
Look at the .txt files in the modus' folder. You can give a mapping for any character, but bear in mind that the string's converted to upper-case before the mapping is applied. You can also assign a colour to each value mapped. Use c<value>:<dec> where <dec> is the base 10 version of the colour (so, white = ffffff = 16777215).
How will USB mode actually work?
I don't know. I mean, I have some things worked out, but if you have a great idea, I'd love to hear about it!
I've found a bug/I have a feature request/The API needs changing
Fork the project, or submit an issue on github! If you want to discuss something, my chumhandle is gumptiousCreator.
What are widgets?
They're basically little Java sub-programs that run inside sylladex cards. Two are bundled with the program, and developers can make their own.
One of the widgets represents an arbitrary object for RPers, the other notifies the user of MSPA updates.
I installed a modus, but now I can't switch between modi!
That means there's a problem with the modus you just installed. Sorry!
Where's the old thread?
