Thread: Gunnerkrigg Court

    Re: Gunnerkrigg Court

I used to be on the GKC forums, and ideas can sometimes grow out of little things. And all sorts of theories can get huge. One of the things I like to do is just sit back for a second and take a less deep read on the situation.

What if Coyote is just jealous that Annie's grown close to Ysengrin? Could it simply be a petty trick against someone who's taking attention away from him? Consider that he's constantly tearing Ys down when Annie and he are around.

Similarly it could just be that
    Coyote likes playing tricks.
Ysengrin is prickly and easy to mess with.
Therefore, Coyote likes messing with Ysengrin.

As for Jones, I believe Tom has said that she is Not A Robot, Not an eye of Coyote (Though people tend to phrase this question badly and he likes giving answers that avoid the question. "Is Jones one of Coyote's eyes or something else" "yes" "Is Jones one of coyote's eyes that saw reason" "no"), and that she is something he made up himself. I've been leaning towards her being some kind of Star or meteorite, since you could make up a myth about one easily and have it make perfect sense, and it would explain her strength/weight, since stories about stars have been around forever. Maybe not why she can beat Jimmy Jims easily at close range though.

Of course this is Gunnerkrigg Court, so she could be anything really and it'd make sense.

Honestly, it just wouldn't do if the "forest" side of this whole argument thing was morally superior to the "tech" side ('cause Annie's whole role in the story is to pretty much mediate these two, and it just wouldn't do for the reader to be any more sympathetic to one side than to the other). We might have to acknowledge that, while Coyote is more 'honest' than the ones who lead the court, he is also capable of....uh....being baaaaad.

It's old news that Homestuck has more control over the internet than even 4chan seems to think.

The last thing we need is for Homestucks to become The Dollars.

I don't think Coyote was directly controlling Ysengrin's wooden power armor, but I suspect he has been manipulating Ysengrin, priming him be sensitive to certain topics, provoking a violent response. In other words, MIND GAMES AHOY

Maybe The Wood is EVERYONE'S MINDS!!

No but seriously, Ysengrin probably got Trigger'd. Annie should tag her conversations better.

I think Coyote being a manipulator is a reasonable theory, like the part in chapter 26 where Coyote pushes Annie in front of an exposed Ysengrin. This wasn't needed for Annie to see Ysen. in three ways, so why if not to manipulate a little.

Of course, Coyote could have done it just to be a jerk.

And now you understand Coyote's motivation for anything.

    Re: Gunnerkrigg Court

Well, yeah, that's a big part of his motivation, but I think Coyote always tries to benefit himself when doing things. Why just do something just for laughs when you can do something else for laughs and influence/power (can't think of the right word atm)? He is a god, after all, and those types of being always have more going on then they let on.

    Re: Gunnerkrigg Court

So Ysengrin really is loosing his marbles, only more literally than imagined. That's a really cold trick Coyote is playing. Giving Annie a chance for that encounter to scar her relationship with Ysengrin, and then making Ysengrin not even know why Annie will react to him the way she will next time they meet. This will surely be inconsequential in the sequel.
    I have spoilers now?
    What's up with that?

Why was Ys dedicated to Coyote, again?
I really should see about getting a new signature.

What is going on? I liked when Coyote was just a goofy trickster, not a manipulative memory-thief. I wonder how often he does this.

Ys is dedicated to Coyote because apparently he doesn't have any memory of Coyote being a jerk.

EDIT: Oops, did not realize I was double posting. Sorry.

Coyote that is pretty messed up. You need to be lasered by laser Annie some more.

Seems like there's going to be a very definite change in tone in Annie's future encounters with Coyote.

    Re: Gunnerkrigg Court

This is a huge reveal. There is simply no way for me to look at Coyote the same way again. This is outright malevolent behavior.

Seeing as up until now we've been treated to a comic relief and mentorish picture of him, this kind of feels like a plot milestone for me. The sort of thing that a television show would advertise as an episode you can't miss.

ANDREW why are Dave's shoes colored differently on pg. 6231 and pg. 6247?
