    Tagstuck - Music Metadata Correction

(Because everything Homestuck-related needs to be called ___stuck.)

Are you bothered by all your MP3s (or OGGs/FLACs) listing the artist as "Homestuck"? Want to listen to all Bowman all the time?

Tagstuck credits each Homestuck song to the correct (hopefully) artist, with additional options as shown above. Simply unzip the .jar and the folder to a location containing Homestuck music and run the .jar file. If you have MP3s in multiple folders, you'll need to do this for each one (Sorry!).

Latest Versions: (Check your Java version)
    Tagstuck 1.40 (Requires Java 7)
Tagstuck 1.31 (Requires Java 6) (all the major OS's are up to 7 now, right?)

Please let me know if there are any bugs or mistakes.

Re: Metastuck - Homestuck MP3 Batch Metadata Editor

BTW, version 0.81 decided to work when I tried it in a different folder XD. I'm guessing it's because I had already used iTunes to edit the metadata in that folder . . . why was I attempting to use it in a folder I had already edited?? I GUESS I HAVE THE BRAIN WORMS!

I noticed a few things though (with 0.81, don't know if you fixed 'em), it's missing "Umbral Ultimatum" when it runs, I think it's because there's a space between it and the semicolon in your list. Also, you left the attribution for "An Unbreakable Union" in Volume 5 blank, you've got a typo in the Wanderers list for "Tomahawk Head" and "Riches to Ruins I & II" should have an ampersand. There were a few tracks in volume 5 it missed, but I'm not sure which ones (I fixed em already)

Anyway, thanks for making this, it's awesome! I'm sorry I can't test your new version though :P

I fixed Unbreakable Union with help from deathsbuddy, but thank you for the others. I only have six albums, so I haven't been able to test thoroughly.

As long as you're exposing a UI, why not allow the user to select the directory there rather then having to move the data around?

So far, It's not correcting "I don't want to miss a thing" Vol 6, "Ace of Trump" "Moon Shine" Drawing Dead, "Riches to Ruins" and "Tomahawk Head" The Wanderers.

    Metastuck 0.91

You may need to install Java 1.7 if you don't already have it.

    * Added a file selection dialog
    * Fixed a few errors
    * Settings are now saved between sessions

In addition to bugs or errors, I'd also like to know which albums are entirely converted correctly, since I don't have most of them myself to test with.

Re: Metastuck - Homestuck MP3 Batch Metadata Editor

Almost 100%. At first it was only bonus tracks being left alone: Violin Remix, Friendship Aneurysm and (using your Jailbreak update in the Jailbreak thread) the Jailbreak bonus songs. But Volume 5 is missing Upholding the Law.

Also, I first tried to apply the patch to Homestuck for the Holidays but it didn't work, and then refused to even allow me to press start on future attempts. Pressing the button just didn't do a thing, not even close the program. I replaced the files (not just the Jar, it wouldn't stop until I had done them all) and it worked again, though it still didn't work on Holidays.

But I have a separate problem. For size reasons, almost all my Homestuck music is on my D drive, with only the first five (1-4 and Drawing Dead) on C. WMP 11 is ignoring tag changes on the D drive. Anyone know how to get around that?

EDIT: It's loading the data when the actual songs are played. I'm just going to have to listen to everything again! TRULY I SUFFER A MOST HORRIBLE FATE.

EDIT2: Your Jailbreak file from the other thread is missing the exclamation mark from "Robert J! Lake" in This Is The End.

EDIT3: My mistake, also missing the tag on Sburban Jungle (Brief Mix).

EDIT4: ==> SR: Add edits ad infinitum. The Homestuck album artist tag isn't always working for me. Very sporadic. For example, on MTaHC, only Fly was marked "Homestuck". It's very sporadic, I'm afraid a full list would not be very enlightening. Unfortunately, I fixed most of them, assuming I had just forgotten to check the box, until I noticed Fly sitting out from the others, alone.

Re: Metastuck - Homestuck MP3 Batch Metadata Editor

Whoa, more stuff in that post than the last time I saw it.

-I'm not sure who wrote Violin Redux, or the Gaiden bonus songs. Friendship Aneurysm, Sburban Jungle (Brief Mix) and Upholding the Law have (hopefully) been fixed.

-There used to be a problem with MTaHK re:album artist, but I think it's fixed in the latest posted version.

-I made a distinction between "Robert J Lake" and "Robert J! Lake". The latter is what you get with nicknames on. Maybe that was a dumb idea?

-Keep in mind, metadata changes may not be instantly reflected in either Windows or your media player. Most media players have an option to refresh your library tucked somewhere in the settings.

-Holidays and LoFaM aren't included yet; I'll get on that. Also the next version should be a little more stable when it can't find any files.

No, I'd say you have the right idea. The exclaimation point is clearly "the nickname" as far as it goes as a nickname. The trouble was that it did "J" for one song in Jailbreak but "J!" for the others (as requested). That strikes me as a bug, or at least a problem with your Jailbreak in-process file.

I found a button that it turns out double-checks online sites for certain data, which would have been undone all of your/Metastuck's changes if it had actually worked. :S Thankfully, WMP has proven equally unreliable in both directions. Although, maybe that would explain my Album Artist issue. Frankly, I'd just ignore that report about the album artist issue - it seems to be something I did wrong rather than Metastuck.

Great! I'd hate to leave LoFaM's artists uncredited but I assumed you were getting around to it.

    Metastuck 0.92

    • Added options for Homestuck Gaiden albums
    • Fixed some metadata entries
    • Fixed stability problems

I also spent half an hour tracking down a bug caused by a mistake I've made twice before in this very project. Strings do not work that way in Java!

So, I tried this out, and the program skipped Intestinal Fortification, Console Thunder, and Squididdle! Oh, and it doesn't work for Homestuck on the Holidays. Everything else worked smoothly though.

So, uh, I press Start after selecting my options, but nothing appears to happen? I have the latest java and I've definitely directed it to the correct folder. Is it an issue if the Homestuck tracks aren't the only files in that folder?

Re: Metastuck - Homestuck MP3 Batch Metadata Editor

This is proving to be a very useful tool! Bandcamp's tendency to label all song artists as "Homestuck" has annoyed me for a while, and while I'd made some effort to rectify that before, this is doing a much more thorough and efficient job. A couple points of concern, though:
    • Once the editor has finished doing its editing job, you might want to have it throw up a "job complete" message of some kind, or maybe a status bar while the editor is working. As it stands, just closing without any sort of notification is potentially very confusing; it took me quite a while to realise that it had, in fact, done its job.
    • On a small few tracks in volumes 6 and 7 (Wacky Antics of Volume 6, and Spider8reath and Trial & Execution of Volume 7, come to mind), the non-nickname mode has a tendency to spontaneously add or leave in a "Toby 'Radiation' Fox" label on the end, even on tracks with which Radiation had no involvement. I've no idea what's going on here, since there's no reason why this should happen; I'm inclined to believe it's just Windows/Media Player being incredibly silly. Also, again on non-nickname mode, the label for MeGaLoVania kept Tensei's nickname in there. Of course, these errors are all very easily rectified manually, but I just thought you should know in case the problem is on the editor's end.
    Anything that happens, happens.
Anything that, in happening, cause something else to happen, causes something else to happen.
Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.
It doesn't necessarily do it in chronological order though.

Sometimes the first click won't register, but if you're trying several times, I'm not sure what's happening.

Good idea. I don't know why I didn't add that before.

I've noticed Windows sometimes has trouble keeping up with the file changes, but usually it's only the display that's broken, not the files themselves; in that case, leaving and re-entering the folder or re-scanning your music library should fix things. I'lll double-check things, though.

...But, so far, I've noticed that "Pachelbel's Gardener" and "Gog Rest Ye Merry Prospitians" will still display "Homestuck" as the artist.

And OH DARN, my Land of Fans and Music is in a different file format for reason I care not to explain.

Re: Metastuck - Homestuck MP3 Batch Metadata Editor

    OK

Just got done with a massive music library crisis.
Good news, everything's all good now.

So, I use iTunes, and the changing of the artists screwed up the entire library to the point where I could barely navigate it; albums were grouped the wrong way, or not at all, etc.
Now, this is not your fault; I absolve you of any blame. (It's ALL Apple's fault, they suuuuuuuuck)

Long story short: If you could, could you make it label the "album artist" as the same thing all across the album; y'know, like Homestuck for the Volumes, the artist's name for the solos, Jailbreak for Jailbreak. But yeah, iTunes wouldn't have blown up my library if the albums were grouped in some way.
If you did, it would save people like me... how long? A ton of time.

But it's over now and your program pimped my library in the end (it still took less time than to do the artists manually, so thanks again!) and I'm going to sleep.

Edit: I leave you with a pumpkin to show that there are no hard feelings

    -Added Volume 8, natch
    -Fixed more bugs
    -Added a shitty progress popup

These are already options, except for Gaiden/Jailbreak.

Oh yes oh yes I thanked you on SA for this BUT I'M DOING IT AGAIN. Even though I've gone through substantial effort retagging these things myself I think I'll run them over with this anyway to clean them up. There's a lot of places I have the artist name as "Homestuck" because I don't like making artist pairings (like "someone & Someone Else") that only happen once (because of listening statistics, mostly) but hell if someone else has got an exact match on them I'll roll with it

I am gonna say "hell with statistics" and get rid of all the usernames/nicknames from the artist tags though because they make a lot of people's names unwieldy. The only ones I've really gotten used to are Radiation, Jit and Tensei at this point. WE'LL SEE
Everybody out of the god damn way. You've got a hat full of bomb, a fist full of penis, and a head full of empty!
