I would say the mutant thing depends on what kind of mutation it is. Like, if the troll is a Sollux or Vriska-style mutant (IE: beneficial mutations, weird eyes but they come with special powers or useful attributes), then it's unlikely that they'd be culled on sight. If it was a Karkat-style mutation or a horrifying disfigurement, that's a different story entirely though.

It'd have to be something obviously detrimental or disfiguring (a mutation that just makes the troll look really ugly or something without any obvious benefit) or that would probably follow an obvious taboo in troll culture. Hell, even mutant blood might not be too much of a concern unless it's outright candy red, considering that the Sufferer wasn't culled on sight because of the mutation (Karkat would be, but that's because of the Sufferer obviously).

I think you've sort of missed the point of why mutations are bad. Mutations are bad because of two reasons- 1- they are negative and horrific and nobody wants them, so they're culled to purify the gene pool and because having some lump on your face that obscures your vision makes you a pretty shitty soldier. And 2- having a really useful power or whatever makes you a threat to the empress. She doesn't tolerate threats.

The reason the Sufferer wasn't culled was- wait he was
he had his pants pulled up to his chest, was hung from his wrists by burning constraints and shot with arrows until he died
that's pretty culled
the only reason he survived so long was because he had kanaya's ancestor who I forget the name of to look after him, because no lusus would ever try, since they seem to choose their children, and said choice seems to be based on blood compatibility (which you won't get with a mutantblood).

Also, he was the first of his kind to ever happen- since then, adult trolls aren't allowed on alternia for many reasons, one of those reasons is so that nobody is around to protect the grubs who should be dead. In other words, mutant = dead now, no way is a kid going to hang out at the trial caves, that's basically suicide, kanayacestor was there because it was her job, but nobody does that anymore.

I've finished that old Bandwagon Post a while back.

It incorporates a couple of trolls I haven't really used at all. Which is a shame, because Artell especially was supposed to be this complimation of actually original ideas that were held to a more canon friendly standard than usual.
Though I'd rather not have 'Canon Friendly' entirely held to her status, I don't exactly want that kind of pressure, keeping that in check and all.

Anyway I see you guys were talking about a litmus so I decided to put my trolls through it, so here's what I got:

Anmani: 1 (would've been 3 if she didn't recognise the hemospectrum)

Absens: 3 (though he doesn't enjoy agressing he will still fight so his psychicly enhanced strength wasn't too good for this test)

Repeto: -4 (her symbol and all that are relavent to her repetitive stuttering etc. so all in my best fantroll.)

Koroma: -2 (an acceptable score for him)

Andron: 1 (he did have a penalty for the little bt of white in his hair and may have had a worse score if he looked more fashionable but I think his outfit is kinda norm for most seadwellers considering they are high up and would wear kind of fancy things.)

sometimes mary sues are perfectly normal in appearance and are mary sues because of how the story treats them or just how they're treated by their author rather than anything about them specifically

course that's more abstract so you can't really do a test on it

fuckin abstract concepts making it hard to categorise things

When it comes down to it, being a mary sue is more dependent on the story than on the character by itself. A massively overpowered character can still be excellently handled and a great part of a story if handled right, or if the story was just made to facilitate them in the right way anyhow.
