John had to level up a lot to gain Mangrit. After all, before he needed Rose's help to lift a sledgehammer.
Yes. Yes they did.
Next time Andrew's answering questions, someone should ask him how much of a distinction there is between their inherent powers and their S___B powers.
Idea: Sollux's Doom ability is the actual reason he has so many (Dead) versions of himself

Since we're merging all Role/Aspect discussion into one thread, we should probably rename it "Role/Aspect Discussion" or some such so that people don't end up opening new threads.
Bluh...incidentally, how can I change the title? That's what I've been trying to do.
The title has never really been something I've desperately wanted to change before. Now it is. 8I

On role powers being seperate or connected to powers from other sources:
The time players get some of their powers from machines, and Feferi got some of her powers from her connection with Gl'bgolybsprite. Witch of Space powers may come from connection with a First Guardian. Heir of Void powers appear to be provided by the game directly but be usable outside of the game. Heir of Breath powers may be similar. Thief of Light powers seem to be provided directly by the game and not usable pre-game. So it seems as though some powers are provided by the game directly and others indirectly.
R.E. Seer of Breath: Might Seers of Breath have powers relating to Skaia's clouds?
My headcannon, even before I discovered Gamzee's title, was that Subjugglators were entertainers as well as brutal aristocratic enforcers of the hegemony, and Gamzee uses horns ('though not very musically). So bards seem to have at least a superficial "magic musician" thing. And SGrub is an RPG.
I'd think any class/aspect pair would be possible. Perhaps Bards of Breath do create storms with butterflies. Or they might use weather to instigate other things- for example instigating things by creating storms so that people are indoors when they need to be and breezes to make underlings catch particular scents at particular times.Taken that way, the Bard status would likely be one of behind the scenes orchestration: The playwright is never seen or heard on stage but responsible for the script; The Bard thus never applies his aspect directly but rather set up future events relating to it. (Although this most likely restricts the Bard to more metaphysical aspects lest we see Bard of Breath releasing Butterflies to create storms a week later.)
It is filled in! Those are all the canon roles we know. TG and TT haven't been assigned yet.
Until now I've always pretty much bought into this theory, and maybe subtly setting things into motion is still a factor, but I'm not sure if that's all it is, anymore. See, I was just listening to this again...
and for the first time I kind of wondered. How did he know that slime was poison? It obviously wasn't common knowledge, because Karkat didn't know that it was, either, it just simply wasn't eaten. The whole pretense for Gamzee eating them so often in the first place was that he didn't know any better. Furthermore, why did it just now suddenly occur to him that he should use his friends blood to paint "miracles"? Till now, I just assumed that's what happens when he's sober, like everyone else did, I guess, but if that were true, then he'd never get back to eating slime pies again, right?
So...maybe as a Bard --a story teller-- he recieved the memories of his ancestor?

Oh there was a thread merge? That's good I was a little shocked (SHOCKED!) when I saw this went from 4 pages to 32 in on night
EDIT:My only guess would be that because true immortality has been established to be a glitch in the universe. And besides, what does the risk of death have to do with personal growth? All the players are confronted with the chance of death all the time, in fact are made to make that choice to attain greater power. I think it's the proof of concept, if the character has achieved the great personal growth and are willing to risk themselves for the greater good (HEROIC) and if the simply powergamed and took power for the sake of power then they do not deserve it (JUST).

I think Heart, Mind, Blood and Doom corresponds to x-factors (relationship, information or choices, mood, sign of death(?), respectively) that can affect a battle.
Hero of Doom can judge whether how high the risk of death of an action taken by the player rather than controlling elemental powers like fire.
