CURRENT CHARACTERS (spoilers):
You are now the central cell. You can only respond to the command ">Spontaneously develop consciousness".
can a single cell be concious?
your only desire is to grow you cant understand the meaning of a "name" or the need for one, you must split or infest other cells with your dna
>Mitosis. Make it hapen.
...I could be completely wrong though.
Emma
did you get morals out of nowhere to?
ANOTHER CELL ADVENTURE. WHADDYA KNOW.
>Cell: Eat red...thing...
You're not exactly sure. You can sense your surroundings by smell, but the scent of your membrane overpowers whatever is within. Either way, the process of creating proteins is fairly automatic. You traded that sort of awareness and choice for complex thought.
And a sense of smell, apparently.
Oh, sure.
Can you focus on making muscle-like proteins to control your cytoskeleton and centrioles, so you can change shape at will?
This would actually in fact be stronger than the movement of amoebas, but might require more ATP.
In case of a shortage, check for light and make some chloroplasts for additional energy if there is light.
Direct control of the lipid bilayer is so much more efficient than Flagella or Cilia!
As for an Eyespot, maybe.
...create four cells with light-activated pigments, each detecting 400, 500, 600, and 700 nanometers' wavelength of light, respectively.
As soon as you have the membrane-control system (MCS), expand some section of your cell (but alas, not into air) to house more contents.
Try to build a cell wall out of starches.
No, not yet.
You need a better cell wall, and some sort of attack.
Create binding proteins on the outside of your membrane, and digestive capsules on the other side of them.
You should be able to destroy other cells by attaching the binding proteins to their membranes, manipulating your membrane until you create a passageway between them both, and then digesting their insides and incorporating any materials that they could have.
Be able to transport lysosomes to the outside of your cell, where they will digest the enemy! MUHAHAHAAHAAAAA!
...Or we could do what Kaynato said.
OR!
Perhaps we could become a virus-like organism or be able to harbor viruses safely, unleashing them on our enemies?
If you digest the cell that way, the contents will either degenerate or be absorbed by other cells.
If you become a virus-holder, viruses will adapt. I think you're just talking about integration by dispersion of infectious particles, which is different but creates AUTONOMOUS bodies, which might not be preferable.
Being a virus is a very bad idea as then it's rather pointless to go further seeing that viruses DON'T HAVE MEMBRANES OR ORGANELLES OR RIBOSOMES AND ARE NOT INDEPENDENTLY LIVING THINGS.
Also, develop ATP by Fermentation/ATP by Cellular Respiration, so you can actually do something with the Glucose you get from chloroplasts besides making starches. (Which, by the way, requires ATP.)
C.Resp. Gives you a ton of ATP, so you'll want that.
You do all of some of those things, namely developing a manner of gaining substance from other cells, and a way to utilize some of your surplus Glucose. You feel more energetic already!
The other cells eye you suspiciously.
They would, if they had eyes, that is.
Or the capacity for complex thought.
