Oh man Ana, listening to you describe everything is so interesting. I wish I could sit down for hours and just talk to you about everything.

I'm not synesthetic at all. Not that I know of at least. Music does make me think of shapes and colors, and often wells up certain emotions, but I always just attributed that to being somewhat artistic. Especially considering that sort of reaction has happened more since I entered art as a profession and noticed my thinking mechanisms have switched more from linear, logical forms to abstract, shape/visual forms.

I have mild word > color, I think. It's not every word, but some of them have really strong associations. For example, "muslim" is a really lovely reddish purple mahogany color, and "fundament" is a sort of deep sky blue (but "fundamental" is dark red).

My username is a dull reddish-orange, with some... I almost want to say green striping towards the end.

I'm of the musical harmony>colour type. Sometimes it applies to full songs for me, sometimes to phrases of chordal progressions. I believe the music to colour one is called chromesthesia since I did a little research once into the relationship between it and people with perfect pitch, which I also have.

What color is Sburban Jungle I must know
That goes to everyone with some kind of sound to color.

As for me, I'm not, but I do tend to ascribe tastes to colors.
My favorite cheese, for instance, is a weird green for some reason.
Water is no color, which is probably why I can't stand it.

(popcorn is the most delicious pale yellow)

It's this lovely grassy but super-pale green. Not the puky minty type, like a leaf that's got the sun on it, and there's some lovely turquoise ostinati going on :3

I love my username, but it's navy and candy red to me. Shame there are so few nice-sounding purple/plum words...

It sounds really.... nice. It's hard to describe? The "xylophone" sounds are a sky blue, and the "guitar" is more of a clay-red in this song, and piano is almost always aquamarine- Sburban Jungle kind of looks like a bright yellow fire erupting over a pale green field with very red dirt, a blue sky overhead, but no smoke. And gosh I don't even know how to describe the sound of the synths- but they are where the yellow is from. Altogether it's really blue and green and then BOOM YELLOW HELLO.
    oops I was rambling again wasn't I

Better stretch my legs... Sure has been a while.

Really? "Anatidae" is sort of green to me, while "Collector" is a kind of pale pink.

My A's are dark blue, as are my E's and my D's in most cases (D is sometimes known to take on the color of the letter next to it since it's not super strong-sounding), so Anatidae is pretty generally navy blue, save for that ruby-colored N and the carrot-orange T.
"Collector" has two very prominent C's and ends with an R, so it's red. The reddish-orange T in there doesn't help the cause.
I seem to be the only person around whose A's are non-red, lol.

Your username matches your avatar pretty nicely! It starts out a hot mess of colors that fade to a muted blue-grey, then boom, bright green P, and loads of firey orange.

Music to colour I might have, Faxing Berlin is a light blue for example, but I just am really into music and so it might just be my thoughts.

I have a little bit of weird smell stuff I think?
Like, when I'm in the early stages of a bad flu, everything starts to smell the way rubber feels?
And sometimes I can tell if it's likely to rain because outside smells sort of like the way peppermint tastes?
I have no idea if this is actual synesthesia or if I'm just crazy.

Also it's weird because I have kind of a weak sense of smell?
...I could be completely wrong though.

Man it would be so awesome to have that. It would make everything so much more interesting. Well, things still are interesting when words are just words, colors just colors, and smells just smells, but it would still be cool. I had a teacher who has synesthesia, I think for him it was numbers>colors+shapes.

Re: The colorful and delicious-smelling synesthesia thread!

Oh man this thread is so cool. i've always thought it would be cool to have synesthesia (be synesthetic? how do you say it?), but the closest I get is associating letters and colors. But I think that's more of a learned behavior, seeing as most of the letters have something to do with a thing that is also that color (L seems yeLLow to me) so i doubt that's anything to do with synesthesia.

That seems to be pretty normal, and even if it's not, it could just be generic olfactory hallucinations. I get those too- smells that don't exist that don't stem from any colors or letters or anything.

This thread makes me curious how things I'm involved with smell. Ana, think you could describe what the word Portrait brings up for you?

"Portrait" is green with a bit of orange, so it smells kind of fruity, like apples and slightly citrusy peaches. It's actually a pretty nice-smelling word...

Do you have many words that would be disturbing or gross if you just used their literal meaning, but because of how they're spelled, smell nicer to you?

In my own experience, I have a tangible sense of time a lot of the time. Also, when I'm moving around I generally have a very specific set of steps that I take, etc, and I very rarely bump into people while doing that. That might just be, you know, proficiency with walking, though. :B

Also, I love that you only joined in the last few days and you already have like three threads, that's so cool

9 is abusive to 6, because she's the odd one out in that family (3, 6, 9).

sig quotes I guess? (one of them)

Yes, definitely. The word "toilet", in fact, smells a bit like almond cake. And bucket, dare I say, smells a bit like blueberry muffins, lol.

That's kind of cool. I think that some sort of time-related synesthesia would be badass. In my dreams, red=future and blue=past when I'm riding on trains and stuff (I can time-travel in my dreams), but I don't think that counts.

And lol yeah. I talk too much. My old home forums are all dead or became infested with freakishly pervy fangirls, exiling me to this (pretty chill) place.

Re: The colorful and delicious-smelling synesthesia thread!

I have to ask, does anyone read the Homestuck Pesterlogs in a certain way due to color or word association?

Like, blue is typically bells or pianos for me, and coincidentally, both Jane and John have "bell-like" voices, though John's is deeper. I don't mean literally talking bells, just their logs have that same general pitch and feel of bells and pianos. Or Rose, who really does have a color like violins, where Mom's color is more around the lyre range, and their voices, or at least logs, sound like those instruments, too. Is that just me, or does anyone else get a very specific sound/taste/smell/feel from the way the kids type?

Re: The colorful and delicious-smelling synesthesia thread!

Jane's text smells fucking delicious. I kind of want to go all Terezi on that shit and start licking the screen. It's like cyan-berry fruit punch. Mom's cotton candy pink text is also nice. Jane and Mom's convo was like a sugar-coated olfactory out-of-body experience.
Tavros' probably smells the most awkward- it smells like very strong apricots. Not chocolate, unfortunately. And Karkat's is kind of weird and smokey. It's just so different from the others.
The others are generally kind of boring. John is kind of vaguely blue raspberry-ish. Dave is cherry-berry, but IDK... not very strong. His conversations with John smell good, though. That red+blue... always nice. But Jane's teal, man... that's something special.

Do words have different colors when they're spoken rather than written?
