The year is 20XX. You and your group of internet friends like to play ONLINE ROLEPLAYING GAMES. The highly anticipated game SBURB is to be released soon, but for you and your friends, soon isn't soon enough. You've acquired copies of the JAPANESE PRE-RELEASE. When you start it though, you find that it is NOTHING like you expected.

This is the main MSPA Forum Thread for the Homestuck TRPG Campaign known as DwellingVexed (but also the Japanese name Sumaihagayui). The most basic concept behind DwellingVexed is "How would Homestuck look if it was made by a Japanese Anime Writer?", as such while it continues to feel like a Homestuck Game, it has taken on a unique Japanese flair.

As you can see from above (when I figure out how to make a Poll), I'm still trying to decided whether to keep the gameplay here, or put it on it's own dedicated forum. With a Forum we can threads for every different area, but on here it's more accessible and no one has to make new profile, so I've left it to a vote.

On Aspects:
As a Kid your Aspect does not necessarily associate with your Kids Element, this Element Is merely a themetic concept that will affect various things like your Kids personality, planet, and the look and feel of their powers. Like how Dave is associated with Fire but Ironically Cool. In this case you might want to choose an aspect that could be easily connected to your element, without Directly BEING that element.

As a Troll, I'm letting you decide what Aspects associate closely with what Zodiac, but remember that your characters personality needs to reflect strongly with the personality the Zodiac provides, AND give your character a Japanese sounding name that is somehow connected to their Zodiac (like a Japanese Word Pun, which are somewhat different from English Word Puns). More will be revealed about Troll Creation privately.

So wind could be Breath, but do you have the stats for the other Aspects listed there? Or do you just mean we reserve one spot and make whatever we'd like?

Breath is Wind, as John, being the Page of Breath, had wind powers. I'm going to make stats for Lightning, but other than that all the others already exist in the Rulebook.

ALSO, When players make their Characters, please make them on all three Character Sheet designs currently available.

Hmm...the idea looks very interesting. Few questions though:

A) As far as I can see, neither Water nor Earth are listed anywhere in the HRPG rulebook. Could you point me in their direction?

B) When you say the same would be in the style of anime, are you speaking from a narrative standpoint (to use a random example, making first kisses a really big thing and thus attaching some extra baggage to a resuscitation), or from an aesthetic one (a STRONG Stomp becomes the Rumbling Earth's Crash)?

C) Any particular restrictions for application, or requirements?

D) A bit of an odd question but worth asking: Given that the kids will play the japanese version of SBURB, does that mean we should make sure they are either weaboos or japanese or is that a minor detail (using an example of what I mean, two of the kids are playing it untranslated, but a third one is french and a tech wiz who edited the game's pointers to use different language files because he couldn't be arsed to try to understand moonspeak)?

E) Kids have their elements picked for them. Do they roll their titles or are those also set?

Your name is YAGA DIRAC. Caught somewhere between the upper and lower castes, you have spent your entire life as a SOCIAL OUTCAST, even more so than is normal for the young of your race. You have adapted to your way of life quite well, and have a comfortable hive situated in the DEEPEST HEART OF THE FOREST. You enjoy it because it is both isolated and cold, things you have come to recognize as easy methods of keeping unwanted visitors away.

You have a variety of INTERESTS, including COLLECTING KNICKKNACKS, HOME COOKERY, and ATTEMPTING TO DISMANTLE THE ALTERNIAN EMPIR-whoops how did that one get there moving on.

Your isolation has allowed you to become incredibly attuned to the only life form you have associated with for the entirety of your 6 Sweep life, your DREADBIRD LUSUS. You mean for fire I could get Rage or Blood? Not only blood then.

you don't have to choose randomly, and yes you COULD use Rage or Blood if you wanted to, or something else you could associate with Fire (like IDK, Heart, because you're character has a FIERY HEART). The word that you use to describe it aspect doesn't really matter, because I'm gonna replace them with Japanese names. Like instead of Knight it's Samurai, instead of Thief it's Ninja, etc. etc.

Okay so I think I'll play the one kid that's Japanese to make everything easier. Also she'll be associated with water and be the SOMETHING of LIFE. Because Water is needed for all living things and all that. I'll come up with names and background and such soon. Is that alright?

Also are we doing representations of our characters anime style? Or still Homestuck style? I feel Homestuck style would be easier for me.

I have a question about the ruleset. When you create your character, does it get both the traits listed on his class? Or is it only one of those? The example character sheet in the first post says john has both.

Also, I'd like to take the fire element kid, His aspect will be Blood and his class, Seer.

By the way, what's the limit on how strange we can make our concepts? What I mean by this is, besides the questions I asked before, should we hew closer to making characters like John or Dave (i. e. mostly normal circumstances with somewhat weird guardians), or can we make a whose dwelling and guardian are more like Rose's or Jade's if we feel like it?

A few cultural notes:
Wind and Fire Wheels are not japanese weapons, I know. If you've played Kingdom Hearts, they're Axel's weapons.
Kendo does go up to 10-th Dan under very special circumstances. Basically this means her grandfather is the most impressive kendo man to ever walk the earth.
2Chan = Japanese 4chan, theirs came first.
De Aru = Ultra Formal, used only in writing.

@Spinneret: Thats Excellent, make sure she speaks Japanese Fluently *dur* (and also, if you have any knowledge of how to speak the language, that'd be really cool, as it'd make play a lot more interesting) and make sure to give her a Japanese quirk to the way she speaks english (maybe she speaks "Engrish" lol) unless you give a good reason to her speaking English what, a Warning about the Japanese character: If a person chooses to play the Jp Char. I will expect about an Otaku's level of knowledge about Japan, it's language, and it's culture. No point in playing a foreign character if you can't play their culture.

Also, while I'll give bonus XP (or whatever the equivalent to XP is, still not sure) for cool extra stuff like really detailed characters, or Anime-Style Drawings, Just a full Character Sheets in all Three styles (LemGambino/legendaryGamer, Masterweaver, and Barralax's) are the only things REQUIRED to give me.

@volcanicRage: Both.

@CurtainsHost: As long as it's interestingly unique and not just unique for unique's sake. this applies to everyone actually. I'm ALL about Character development and detail, the more detailed you make your characters personality and history and etc., the better you know your character as if they were real, and the better you know your character, the better you play them, leading to more enjoyable game.

@PhantomSquee: Yes, but as I stated I have not decided between a Dedicated forum for the game or just playing on here. If anyone knows how to make a Poll on this thread please let me know. And I will need everyones ChumHandles.

@Digiexpert: The only one left is Earth. you cool with that?

1) The Elements are not Aspects, just like the Classical Elements associated with the Homestuck Kids are not Aspects ( read http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/w...and_Likenesses ). Instead they are just flavour motifs, shaping the styles and experiences of the characters, as I said above.

2) yes and no to both, basically expect a Oriental Fantasy to it instead of Western Fantasy flavour. Samurais, Kitsune, Giant Mecha, Kaiju, epically big fight scenes, HOT SPRINGS EPISODES!. I don't like over-explaining it because look, I've already spoiled shit by saying there will be Giant Mechas and Kaiju, but everyone keeps insisting on knowing more. All you need to know is that it in NO WAY effects the design of your characters because the RPG starts off BEFORE your character puts the game in, just like the comic does.

3) everything for that has already been stated.

4) as I said above. NO. other than the one required Japanese kid, your characters are not required to have any working knowledge of japan-related shit at all, They are more than welcome to, but you're really allowed to do what you want with the character design as long AS IT MAKES SENSE.... relatively... this is homestuck we're talking about here.

5) Pick whatever title you want, you don't even have to roll for it, I'm totally cool with you just choosing it, unless you actually want to roll for it. thats cool too. either way, I'm then going to be changing the name of the title to fit the setting.

Alright, well, I'm cool with either option as far as location. I think a dedicated forum would probably be easier for everybody (more metaphorical stretching room, etc.) but I'll go with whatever the majority prefers.

Edit: Spinneret, I wouldn't mind helping you out if you need a hand. Play-by-post is not too terribly different from D&D in person, it's just a good deal slower.

@TPS: Oh no I've done play by post for the last 6 years. WHat I'm confused about is the character sheets and the Homestuck D&D thing. Like do we have to fill out the character sheet entirely by Homestuck tabletop rules and what that entails.
