randomEncounter appears offline, so for now I think the problem is that and wait to see if it fixes.
Thank you!
Well, I registered so I could post this problem here, so...
I've read in the first post that Norton detects the .exe as malware and blah blah. Well, Kaspersky Lab does that to. It detects a Trojan virus in the file, so I ran Kaspersky to erase it and all that. I was quite excited when I found this Pesterchum application, so I'm a little saddened by this issue. I'm not a Computer Genius, so I don't understand the severity of this that much, but if my antivirus says a program contains a Trojan, I become pretty discouraged to install it...
Am I being paranoid or something? :_D
This is exactly the same case I have.
I download it, but Kapersky detects a Trojan virus. Usually I can just delete that and open it anyways, but with PC it says 'Pesterchum3.41.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer.'
I tried saving as, but even when I open it from my desktop, it says 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the file.'
To make a long story short, Kapersky blocked PesterChum.
I also Joined just to ask this, like Abo, and I'm really upset I couldn't get PesterChum! Is There any way to fix this?
[PesterChum should be made online instead of a Download. -3-]
Hi so I finally made an account on here in hopes of getting some help.
(Sorry but I'm a little lazy to skim 80+ pages to see if this has been asked and answered before.)
Anyways,
I run Pesterchum on a Macbook Pro (Version 10.7.5).
It used to work fine for months when I first installed it, but now suddenly it is not working. It'll "log" me into my default profile, and it will not show any of my friends being online, when they tell me through another instant messenger that they are, and that I appear offline to them. I also have my own chumHandle added to my list to see if anyone ever logs into my account, just because, and it also never appears online when I try and log in. I've tried running the debugging program, but it never works whatsoever when I try to open it.
Before I only had an "everyone appearing offline and not being able to message" anyone problem, which developed into a "not being able to change account" problem, and has now become a "Pesterchum crashes every five seconds upon opening" problem.
I don't know what to do. I've tried running the debugger. I've tried installing and uninstalling the program. But nothing seems to work.
I've filed several bug reports but never heard word back because my pester never gives me incoming messages from anyone since I appear offline all the time when I log in.
(Also when I try to view the reason it crashed, I get a giant report on what happened and I can't understand a word of it. I've only just started using a mac, I got it a year ago, and I still don't understand how half the things work. *Grew up using a Windows computer.*)
So any help would be much appreciated, thank you.![]()

Excuse me, but I happen to find myself placed in a situation with Pesterchum. I only managed to get it working once, but then it broke. When I tried to redownload, and install, all I get is a error message. I have encountered this multiple times. I would just like to get a little help, if possible.
That is the error I receive.

Hi, are we having server issues???? i keep getting the connection closed error, and so does my friend.
I am unsure as to how this will assist me.

It would be neat if you could set icons for your chums to see
Ok, because of all the problems that seem to be occuring with pesterchum, would it EVER be possible to make a website where pesterchum is available to use in your browser. It (might) will remove some problems people are having, such as pesterchum not opening, no pesterchum.js file, and other shit. SO do you think this could ever happen? Or would it cause more problems?
Instructions for Accessing Pesterchum through your Browser:
1. Go to client00.chat.mibbit.com
2. Click "Server" and type "irc.mindfang.org"
3. Input your chumhandle where it says "Nick" and input "#pesterchum" into "Channel"
4. Connect.
5. When you've joined the channel, you'll see a huge list of usernames who are online. Select whoever you want to pester and click their name. There will be a drop-down list; click "PM."
6. Type "PESTERCHUM:BEGIN" into the chat window.
7. Voila! You are chatting on pestermibbit!
Apparently everyone who has trouble making it work is using Kaspersky as antivirus. Recommend you try to install it with the antivirus disabled. The file is clean, no risk.
The server says that it is clean, my Avast says it's clean ... if you still have doubts you can use an online antivirus different from yours and see what happens. Or look for an option to "run in sandbox" or something like that
om willing to believe that my system is wrong but, i want to know why kaspersky is flagging it as a virus and what dropper.win32.daws is doing there
the only thing these people have in common is kaspersky and pesterchum, possibly because kaspersky is the only one picking it up which means its fake, but I'm pretty sure that dropper.win32.daws.avzv is not a legit system program given that dropper.win32.daws.aqvt or .avbf is a legit threat.

I imagine that there will be no choice but to wait for the voice of the programmers, to review the files just in case.
Pesterchum. A Google search reveals that the only results about dropper.win32.daws.avzv are on Pesterchum, so I tend to think it is a false positive. If it was a real virus should have more references. The doubt is reasonable, I admit.
