Hey guys, The newest Mario Kart is out on the 3DS. It has this great new online feature called Communities, which is essentially a private server. Since it's a real rip-snorter of a game, I thought I'd create one for the MSPA community. It can accommodate tens of thousands of members at a time, so don't be afraid to join.

Okay so the game is fun but I realized in one player that my top speed kart doesn't even matter due to the stupid rubberband AI

Like seriously I have the fasted possible Kart combination, and yet these douches are zooming past me with no mushrooms oh god why

So I switched to a mediocre speed, high acceleration high handling kart and now I kick everyone's ass.

Also fuck blue shells forever.

The thing that REALLY sucks is that it tracks who was in first place at the time of it being launched. So if you were in first when the blue shell was launched and then end up being smacked back to 3rd from items, the blue shell will still hit you and not the person currently in first place.

Red Shells seem to have gotten stupidly smart too. Before they were practically A-to-B ground based attacks meaning if there was something in the way it would miss

But now it follows the contours of the track like a blue shell. AND ALSO, it tracks you in the air making it nigh impossible to avoid. The only way to not get hit is to have an item at the time to block it.

I'm currently at little over 3000 coins all up and I've 3 starred every GP so I might be able to give some hints.

Yea, speed does not matter at all in GP. Basically max out the accel as much as you can since weapons and slowdowns are rampant. Aiming for ~5 in accel is ideal. My recommendation is a featherweight(Toad, Koopa, Lakitu, Shyguy) on the Egg-1 with the Wooden wheels and any alternate glider(all gliders but the default one give +.25 to accel). This gives you 5.25 in accel and 4.25 and 4 in handling and off-road respectively, the remaining stats aren't terribly important. With handling and off-road that high you can get almost anywhere, and that accel will get you almost immediately back into the race.

Alternative parts are the Pipe Frame, Birthday Girl/Royal Ribbon, Bumble-V, Roller and Sponge wheels. Each varies all stats slightly, but accel will always be at least 5, unless you don't have any alternate gliders.

Also, coins are key. Collect 10 as soon as you can and do your best to hold onto them. Coins affect your speed more than the actual stat does. They also give a mini boost on collection, no matter how many you have.

There's 3 ways of handling a blue shell;
1. Keeps an eye out on the bottom screen. If you see one pop up and 2nd place is relatively close by, hit the anchors and let them take 1st and in turn the shell. CPU's always waits a little bit before firing them, so you usually have some time. Please note that once it's fired, whoever was in 1st place when it was released is doomed, whether they're in 1st or not.
2. If you have a mushroom, use it just as it's about to hit you to avoid it. The timing is tricky, but definitely possible. I've done it.
3. Get far enough in front that it's not a hassle. Very easy on 50 and 100cc. 150 and Mirror are tougher, but if you play well enough with the above kart suggestions, it's definitely possible.


EDIT: You can find a full stat list here. It's accurate as far as I can tell on the 5 visible stats. The list also contains a whole bunch of hidden stats which are never shown, so I can't verify their accuracy, but I'm inclined to believe them.

yeah, I'm polishing up Mirror 150. Ever since I swapped to the aformentioned high accelleration high handling kart, I've mostly gotten first place aside from the occasional douche attack.

My current Kart set is Birthday Girl/Roller/Paraglider

I love her. Whatever. Best shade of blue too. I'd use Shy Guy, but I, like everyone else, cannot figure out the magical secret on how to use a different colored Shyguy.

It's like, literally a secret that everyone but the people on the internet know.

Ha, I was using Rosalina too until I tried out Maximum Acceleration. Koopa is my main, with Shy Guy being alt.

As for Shy Guy colors, Blue is confirmed to be the download play character, but people are convinced that it and other colors(like Purple and Green) are selectable outside of that. Odd that there's no confirmation anywhere.

So, I got this, it's really fun and everything... but something's missing. I don't know what. I'm missing some of the excitement of the other games. I'm also kinda upset that there aren't any single-player challenges like Mario Kart DS had, those were really fun and gave more to do playing by yourself.

Yea, what happened on Weegee Mansion? I thought I was about to get a connection error since you just disappeared. Definitely need more people. Not as fun with just 2.

Fortunately I haven't experienced Wuhu Mountain Loop on Wifi yet. I am well aware of the exploit though.

What happened with Luigi's mansion is that I drifted into the grass and it took me like 7 seconds to get back on course for some reason in the beginning.

I think I showed some excellent sportsmanship on random online this morning.

I was getting nothing but 1st's for ~5 races. Next race we were on Dino Dino Jungle. I was in 1st and some German guy playing Wario was 2nd all race, and pretty close behind me. On the second lap I drifted funny and ended up falling off the edge in the cave. Entirely my fault. He took 1st and I'm stuck in 2nd, but close enough behind to take 1st with a good item. I slowly gained on him but this went on for the remaining race.

On the last lap a Blue Shell was fired just as we were leaving the cave. It missed me and continued on to hit him literally on the last corner, I had just gotten off the bridge. For some reason after passing him, I decided that winning like this isn't fair to either of us, so instead of continuing on to win the race, I stopped just after passing and let him pass to win the race.

If this was anywhere else but the last corner on the last lap I would not have done this. And I guarantee nobody would've done the same for me. Either way, it felt good to stick it to these kind of Blue Shell shenanigans. I'd do it again, except to maybe someone on a winning streak like I was.

Oh, I should probably mention that I went back to nothing but 1st's after that race.

I generally do pretty good in random online now since I've gotten used to the high handling drifting.

I swear to god I'm glad it's no Doubledash/DS drifting. Shit was terrible. Snaking is terridumb.

I much prefer the 64/DD/DS miniboost mechanics, but I understand that it had to go to severely nerf snaking. It's still technically in this game, but it's not worth doing. Same with 64.

Baby Mario and Luigi together in DD let you basically pull off fully charged mini turbos without even changing direction. It was ridiculous.

Mini Turbos in DS were making my thumb raw so I said fuck that shit.
