I just realized one of the main reasons why Amon is so pants-shittingly scary (this might be kind of obvious): we know basically nothing about him. The only confirmed information we have is that he hates bending, and even that might be a front for a Ghetsis-style evil plot to take control of the city. He's probably not a bender himself, but again, it could be a Ghetsis-style evil plot, so he could end up pulling fireballs or icicles out of his ass just when Korra thinks she's got him cornered. There's a good chance his Batman-style backstory is something he made up to garner sympathy and demonize benders. We have no idea if his permanent bending-blocking is energybending or really fancy chi-blocking or what, or even if it's really permanent. And "Amon" is almost definitely not his real name.

Any random background character could be Amon.

FYI, Ghetsis was the big bad from Pokemon Black and White. His organization, Team Plasma, was officially all about freeing all Pokemon from their cruel trainers, but it was really a front so Ghetsis would be the only one in the world with any Pokemon, and use them take over the world.

All we need now is for Amon to have some kind of crazy-ass sword-style under his belt and the comparison would be...I dunno, that much more stronger and absolutely freaky.

What if he uses Zukko's dual-blades?

All the other expert fighting styles from the first series have made an reappearance, after all.

There is always the very unlikely scenario that Amon is some sort of dark avatar- that would explain the energy bending. Why would a second avatar want to destroy bending, I'm not sure, but it would be an interesting twist.

Considering the Avatar is able to bend all the elements and acts as a sort of emissary to/from the spirit world, those may be related. In turn, Amon mentioned getting his power from spirits. So possibly some spirits want to completely separate the worlds and are using Amon to help with this by possibly eliminating bending, like some kind of anti-Avatar? Not certain how plausible that is at the moment, but it seems like something to think about.

When Amon ‘takes away’ LBZ’s bending, he only touches ONE point, the yin tang.

Now what could that mean?

I think Amon is faking it. That he is making people believe that he is taking away their bending, when what he is actually doing is blocking a chakra.

Here is why:

When Uncle is teaching Zuko about lightning, he talks about bending needing a certain amount of inner calm. So, if you were to close that chakra and lock all the anxiety inside someone, making them incapable of being calm, that would effectively take someone’s bending away.

Quite clever actually, since the more terrified they are/become the more permanent this block will be. And Amon is sure laying it on thick.

He's looking to be an ordinary man. And like Ozai, that's exactly what makes him terrifying.

However, this doesn't seem to be the sort of thing that someone just happens on themselves, I think that Spirits are probably still involved, they just taught Amon a different thing.

Which again brings up the whole arch-demon theory. Amon might have some very nasty spiritual backup, even if he is (or was) a normal man once.

I don't quite think he is abnormal! I feel like him being Just A Human is what makes him a better villain, although I wouldn't think lesser of him if he was sent by Something Bad and if that Something Bad did something a bit more direct after Korra kicks Amon's ass(whether figuratively or for realsies).

Well, they are 17.

I was not that ridiculous about relationships and THE FEELS at 17. And quite frankly neither were a lot of other people I knew then. Of course, I associate with people very selectively.

Anyway, now that the episode is over: I think I've reached a point where watching teenagers react to teenagery things in stereotypically teenagery ways (excessive rage jealously and sadness!) is wearing a bit thin.

And then we have wavy hair boy mocking the ferrets all episode in a completely overboard manner. The whole time I just wanted somebody to be like "wow, you are shockingly unsportsmanlike. Please go away while normal people talk."

This was just an episode filled with annoying people and reactions. Which is to say, it was mostly shipper fuel. Le sign.

My only problem is that Asami wasn't developed, so i am hoping for that in the next few episodes.

Plus by staging this during the bending matches all the feelings were interspersed with people beating the shit out of each other with elements. So there was that.


Things I noticed
1. Tahno is a waterbender even though he looks more fire nation, or hell, air nomad (dude is pale as fuck). But i do like how over the top he acts and his hand movements are gold.
2. Bolin finally got to shine alone, which was great.
3. Mako is kinda self-centered and overprotective, but he weaves that in with common-sense.

I can't help but feel that the whole pro bending thing is kind of meaningless next to the looming threat of Amon.

Amen to that. Personally, I think all this will be worked out before the first season is done, but even then...what the hell, Korra.

But stupid hair guy was worth it just for the fact that they put a joke in at the movie's expense.
