    Light

You've been staring at the wall for quite a long time. How long, you aren't sure. Long enough for you to forget how long, that much is clear. Long enough for you to forget a lot of things. Perhaps even long enough for you to forget your name.

What is your name, by the way?

No, you are fairly certain that is not your name. A pity; he sounds like a much more interesting man than you. Not that you remember how interesting you are.

Wait, that's right! You are Gordon Johnson, though your friends call you "Gordie." At least, you're going to assume they do until you remember otherwise. You're also going to assume that you have friends and that these friends are currently alive.

That's just the kind of guy you assume you are.

Now, what to do first? So much darkness, so little time.

Yes, this is the thing you should do.

You feel the FRONT WALL, but it is just a WALL.

You feel the BACK WALL, but once again your fingers meet nothing but WALL.

You send your questing digits to the RIGHT, but there is nothing here except empty air.

You also feel to the LEFT for good measure. You again paw at the air.

You then briefly wonder why you did all that, as your personal LIGHT SPHEROID allowed you to see all the nothing you were touching anyway.

You cannot poke the DARKNESS! Your LIGHT SPHEROID obliterates it before it enters your reach!

Oh man, you would cast so many MAGIC MISSILES right now if you remembered how to do that. However, you do not. As you just remembered your own name a few minutes ago, this is not a surprise.

Anyway, you should probably do something productive fairly soon. The lack of LIGHT in the room is making you a bit nervous.

Feel the WALL to the RIGHT?

Okay, you can do that. Of course, you could just look at it with the aid of your LIGHT SPHEROID, but maybe you'll find a hidden switch or something. You walk to the right and oh look your bed is in the way.

But that's not a problem. You'll just stand on top of it.

You would feel the WALL, but you are too distracted by the fact that someone appears to have left a MESSAGE for you.

More to the point, someone appears to have scratched the MESSAGE into the CONCRETE of the WALL.

You are a little distressed by this.

    Enlarge your LIGHT SPHEROID?

Your LIGHT SPHEROID does not appear to work that way.

There is no panel to the right. Nothing but this MESSAGE.

    You observe your LIGHT SPHEROID.

It's a LIGHT SPHEROID. Not as focused as a LIGHT CONE, but at least it also casts LIGHT behind your head.

Of course, that fact could never help you in any way whatsoever because you can't see behind your head.

Well, this is as far RIGHT as the ROOM goes.

But you can go further LEFT.

    How's this?

You cannot echolocate! But man, it sure would be awesome if you could, wouldn't it?

Boy, you sure gathered a lot of information just now! You feel a little better now that you know what the ROOM looks like.

What will you do with your newfound knowledge?

Okay, so there are a lot of buttons on the wall behind Gordon, a message scratched on the wall, and a large poster or panel or something on the wall behind Gordon, but on the other side of the room...

Look for big pull-switch on the BACK WALL.

You already read it when you were on the RIGHT side of the room.

    This is what it said.

There appears to be a BIG PULL-SWITCH on the BACK WALL.

There is nothing on the LEFT WALL but the DOOR. And anyway, you just finished walking over here to find the BIG PULL-SWITCH! Can't you finish one thing before you start another?

Also, your LIGHT SPHEROID apparently does not work that way, and you already invented an absolute direction system:

    Front

    Back

    Right

    Left

Doesn't get much more absolute than that.

Leslie, engrave that name into your memory so that you can find out the significance of it later.

Also, pull the switch as the others have been saying.

You resolve to remember the name LESLIE for future purposes. You further resolve to add the name GORDON below it once you have acquired the proper ENGRAVING TOOLS.

    Now, to handle that switch.

You are totally flipping that switch. You are doing it man. You're making this happen.

    If only you could just

    Just sort of

    Reach up and

You are too short to reach the switch.
