Re: The MSPA Simple Questions Thread

Looking over the archive, it looks to me as though each act of Homestuck has it's own character, except 2 and 3 are the same:

Act 1 is about John, and towards the end Rose, messing about in their Houses.

In Act 2, the story seems to develop an overarching, fantastic, dramatic plot about SBurb.
Act 3 just continues what was in Act 2.

Act 4 ups the drama more by making the high stakes of SBurb clearer. Also in Act 4, the kids' session begins to go wrong, extending the high fantasy plot beyond "Some people play SBurb, which means ...".

Act 5 brings the trolls to importance, gets non-chronological, and introduces "the mythology beyond the game", as Rose calls it.

Act 6 brings guardianswap, and I'm guessing it will do or has done more that will be more obvious in hindsight.

So. Why are acts 2 and 3 seperate? Is there a difference?

Re: The MSPA Simple Questions Thread

Act 2 focuses on continuing with Rose (and John, though less so) and introducing Dave, while Act 3 is more centered on Jade.

Re: The MSPA Simple Questions Thread

Act 1 is when John enters.
Act 2 kind of sets us up for Rose entering, but psyches us with WV.
    Act 3 Rose Enters.
    Act 4 Dave enters.
Act 5 act 1 all of the trolls enter.
Act 5 act 2 Jade enters.
Act 6 kind of throws off the pattern.

To be fair, there isn't a lot of a pattern here anyway. Dave entering the session is lumped in with Descend, being shown well after he actually entered in the stories chronology, and Jade enters near the beginning of act 5 act 2. The plot focuses on whatever the most interesting story developments are at the time, and the end of the acts demonstrate the climactic conclusion to those story lines.

EDIT: How long had Homestuck Book 2 been available on TopatoCo? I just looked today and saw it was up, but maybe it's been up since the beginning of the convention?

Act 3 is when you start to see that the kids are actually special; they're not just the kids that ended up successfully playing the game, but kids put there in the first place to successfully play the game. Achieved through the existence of Jade and the trolls.

Q: The Trolls only prototyped their sprites once, except for Aradia.

How could their Sprites speak, without a second prototyping?

It's not the second prototyping that allows speech, it's what's prototyped at all. The harlequin doll was dumb and so could only speak in incomprehensible symbols.

EDIT: Calsprite only laughed, and he was a second prototyping (granted we don't know if it was capable of speech).

Of course, even intelligent creatures may prove unable to speak in a coherent fashion.

Regardless, there's absolutely nothing pointing towards the second prototyping being different from the first in any way.

Like what was stated in the story, the player only ever needs to pre-prototype once (Void session players don't get to pre-prototype at all).

He has clearly been repaired when we see him later, though I don't know how I would search to find a good image.

Cal's timeline can indeed be somewhat hard to comprehend.

At that point, Dave had just entered the Medium. Lil Cal was still destroyed from the fight with B1 Dirk.

Later on, B1 Dirk would repair it and use it against Jack.

Is page #5546 a Flash file? If so, is it simply a video or a fully interactive game? And if it's a video, is there a YouTube link?

I'm on my phone, so it doesn't show. Thanks in advance!

#5546 is a very short flash that shows Grimdark Rose ascending from LOHAC

I don't think someone has put it on Youtube yet, as it's not a flash with music.

What of Jaspers and the eldritch wizard doll? Does that mean that Jaspers is capable of speech? Or maybe, upon entering the Medium, all Sprites get the ability to talk? Or for as long as the Sprite is prototyped with something that can communicate through whatever language, it will be rendered able to speak?

Jaspers can talk because he had an Emotional Bond with Rose.
That is why all of the Lusii could speak with their trolls.
All sprites do not get the ability to talk as we saw with Lil' Cal Sprite in [S]Dave: Accelerate.

Because they had a null session. Their session was basically sterile. No universe would be birthed from it. Because null sessions are destined for failure, and because they're destined, the session is designed to fail (more self-fulfilling stuff, you can find Rose talking about it in the intermission on this page).

So in other words, they decided to do it so they could get another chance at the game.

Re: The MSPA Simple Questions Thread

I seem to recall some dialogue wherein someone - possibly Doc Scratch - mentioned that although a planet may get the chance to spawn multiple S*B sessions, not all of them will come to fruition. A) Did this conversation really happen and B) if so, is there any stated reason why a null session is apparently such a big deal that a Scratch is a viable option?

If, when an item is placed in the Frog Temple lotus, the flower closes and the timer counts down until it opens again, why is it that when Jack enters it as it goes through the Skaia portal (And thus, presumably, lies inside it for billions of years), that the lotus only flowers ten seconds before opening?
It also means that he has been sat inside that lotus while other items have been placed in and retrieved from it, how do?
