Ok, well this is into theory territory, so we'll just say that any questions associated with this are basically unanswerable as of now, and take it to the other thread.

One final example: the kids' alpha timeline got scratched a little over 24 hours after John entered, yet Davesprite's timeline continued for four months until he went back in time and changed everything.
Not exactly the same thing, since the doomed timeline was integral for the alpha timeline to exist, but still.
How would Jane be able to realchemize the obelisk? I thought the point of grist limits on the player was to limit what cool things they could alchemize. Otherwise, what would be the point of the limit at all?
Shadow: Her grist widget.
We're too far into the story now to bother with old gags and limitations. The point of Jane having all that Crockercorp tech was so that she could bypass those minor problems and get on with progressing the story instead of screwing around.
I assumed that the grist widget was acting like the grist gutter; storing excess grist and doling it out as openings appear. I suppose it's reasonable enough to say that the grist widget acts by essentially expanding one's grist limit.
Edit: Wait a second though.
It's still grist gutter. My understanding was that grist gutter worked as sort of a separate space. That allowed other players to download grist through grist torrent, but otherwise holding excess grist to the side until space was created.
If this was the case, any alchemization in excess of a player's grist limit should be impossible to create. Let's say I'm limited to 40 buildgrist. But that in order to make a chart explaining my inability to create a chart, I'd need 45 build grist. Although I have 5 billion build grist because of ridiculous shenanigans, as I'm limited to 40 buildgrist at a time, my redundant chart couldn't be made as I can only access 40 buildgrist at any one time. I can't simply use 40 grist, wait for my grist total to fill up again by grist gutter, and then five more. Alchemization is a one-time creation process.

i dont think "never existed" is a meaningful concept here. B1 Earth "still exists" because Jake is going to send a package there!
according to what we've been shown, the scratch doesn't actually do anything to the incipisphere's parent universe. it just creates a parallel copy of it, and tweaks the portal destinations. the incipisphere (from which the scratch is actually triggered) ceases to exist when the scratch is complete, but that certainly doesn't mean it "never existed".
and this is starting to push the boundaries of a "simple question"

Oh, okay then. I'd swear that at one point it was said that the Scratch would completely wipe the timeline from Earth and the Incipisphere from existence at every point. But I guess I was wrong then. Thank you in that case!

Have the other two incarnations of Diamonds Droog had the barcode on their arms?

When you say "all carapacians" I think the only ones we didn't know about were the monarchy? They don't appear to?
yeah it's a prime example of Weird Time Shit. a universe has a definite beginning and end, but there's no way to "remove it from existence" - because there was always a region in space and time when it did exist.
doc scratch warned rose that the incipisphere would cease to exist, and that the scratch would "reboot the conditions of your universe". he never specified how the "reboot" would be accomplished.
word o' god is "clones have barcodes". if the monarchs don't have barcodes, that's because they're unique entities created at the same time as the incipisphere; they're not grown in tubes like the other chesspeople.

The only solution I can come up with is that perhaps Jane's weirdo captcha system could be involved. Her recipe book? If I'm remembering correctly, it had something to do with listing different ways an item could be made by 'mixing' other items in. If that was the case, I suppose one could create the obelisk by mixing together a bunch of ingredients that are made from smaller grist totals. Going back to my chart, if it could be made by mixing together a potted plant and a piece of paper, and that a potted plant costs 30 buildgrist while the piece of paper costs 15, then I could make both items and then later 'mix' them in together to create my chart.
That's not quite how the alchemy works. You only pay grist when you create the final item, and the recipe is only instructions on which codes to combine. Besides, the recipe book only gives recipes for things stored in it, and the obelisk was too big, which is why she needed to put it in the wallet.
Isn't there also Green Miles? Or is that a fan-name?

Anybody know what colors a non-robot drone have? I think it's black with grey covering it? I'm guessing based on the picture from mspawiki and the fact that robodrones are red on grey.
Presumably they looked like Alternian Imperial Drones - that is, grey on black. So yeah, you're right.
That first sentence's structure can be read in two ways. One of the ways is elegant and the other is terrible. Please read it in the former fashion.
