Your name is PALA, and you have returned home for the first time in two years. You have been away training in the ways of the ELEMENTS, far in the south, where it is very hot.

You are now in your home town situated in the northern mountain valleys, where it is very cold. Currently, you are resting in your old, wooden home. One of the oldest in the village, in fact. But it is where you were raised and symbolizes your small family of four.

Putting on your thick furs, you decide you should get up and make the most of the time you have at home. What will you do?

Your home hasn't changed much at all, to your relief. The floor is covered in furs and hides, and the walls are lined with various things your father has hunted - bones, skulls, antlers, those kind of things. Somehow your family has managed to keep your collection of books regarding elements and elementals safe from damp all this time, and they neatly fill the rickety book-cases near the staircase that leads to the basement. You are sat in front of the fireplace, and thankfully the front door is keeping the cold breeze out.

You get up, and push open the front door and are greeted by a biting cold breeze. Your long, brown hair flails wildy as you slam the door shut behind you before any snow blows inside. A small flock of chickens run by, and you decide to amuse yourself. You lift out a hand, and the snow beneath one of the chickens bursts up in a pillar-shape and pushes it up in the air. The chicken begins to cluck with bewilderment and you giggle as it tries to break free from the grasp of your magically-animated snow.

Bears take a while to find. At least, that's what your father claims. Besides, you dread to think of using fire. Out of all the elements you are adept with. Fire is the only one you rarely use - it takes the most discipline and to be honest, it scares you. You still have the burn scars to prove that.

You form a shoe of snow around your foot, and kick it down the village trail that leads by your house. It hits a guardsman in the back, and he turns around, confused. You give a timid wave in his direction, grinning sheepishly. He shrugs and resumes his post.

Food is important here, randomly killing chickens will get you in trouble! You're not sadistic enough to actually consider that, either way.

You were only playing with it! You suppose it is a bit mean though, and you let the chicken run off. You're not the kind to pointlessly kill livestock.

Power is corrupting, but in this case, you are rather close to the people who live here! And besides, you can control the elements, but if one or two hundred people turned against you, you wouldn't last long! It'd only take a single arrow to knock you out of commission.

You walk towards the guard, but it turns out he's your uncle, HALVARD. You greet him, and he turns around, and smiles warmly.
"Well, hello there Pala! How are things for you? Are you enjoying your stay at home? You've been away for a long time."

You are happy to see Halvard, you and he are very close.
"I'm doing very well, uncle." You reply. "I'm so happy to be with my family again. The cold feels good after being stuck in Firethrone for two years. Have things been quiet for you?"
"Oh, yes, mostly." He answers. "But lately the other guards have been seeing shadows out in the distant woods. They think there may be scouts from one of the more aggressive village tribes out there. We've been on the look out for anything dangerous. If you go out into the woods, be careful, alright? Don't go out alone, at the very least."
"If you insist uncle. Hopefully shadows are as dangerous as they'll get!"

You bid your uncle farewell and make your way to the tavern, where you expect to find at least one of your relatives. Opening the tavern door, you look around. It is mostly quiet, because it is still early on in the day. There are a few men sat the tables, drinking, mostly elders. Your travelling companion Halid, who is from the south, is sat at one table, speaking in a loud yet friendly manner with your cousin Amund. They both seem to be bragging about the various creatures they have encountered. Amund is a hunter, and is about the same age as you. He hunts with your father, and is most likely on a break while your father sees to his business. Halid is a guide but also a friend. He is paid by the village to escort you to Firethrone and back, and is currently staying at the tavern during your rest at home.

You walk towards the pair, and casually greet them, and they cheerfully return the greeting.

"Amund, Halvard mentioned shadows out in the forest, have you heard or seen anything like that?" You ask, with a little concern, to which Amund smirks.
"Uh, no. Pa is probably just seeing things. I've not seen anything unusual while out hunting. You know the animals around here are skittish."
"Hah." Halid chuckled. "You shouldn't wave off such things. The world is very strange, and if something worries one's heart you should seek it out. Perhaps your uncle should organise a search."
"That sounds like an idea." You nod, biting your lip casually.

You inquire into their current moods.
"I'm good." Amund replies, taking a sip of his ale.
"Things are well." Halid agrees. "Your cousin is an interesting man. Apparently he has met some very interesting creatures."
"I don't know how many of those creatures are real." You say, smiling.
"You see plenty of creatures after a few jugs of ale, don't think i've forgotten the first time you tried the stuff." Amund grinned widely. "Care for a drink with us before i have to go?"
